Lynchburg, Tennessee  –  The Jack Daniel Distillery has announced the limited release of Jack Daniel’s Halo MK1 Tennessee Whiskey, a super premium collaboration with the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team featuring custom packaging and specially-crafted Tennessee Whiskey that nods to the brands’ shared commitment to excellence. The bottle is the most premium and limited global release in Jack Daniel’s history, retailing at $599.99 USD.

Beginning with the release’s design, the HALO structure of McLaren’s Formula 1 race car has been reimagined as the vessel for a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, which features a hand-finished cork and custom medallions. Materials integrated into the packaging such as alloy metal, micro-suede and carbon fibre print, are inspired by those McLaren uses to construct its Formula 1 cars.

Halo MK1 Tennessee Whiskey starts with Jack Daniel’s signature grain bill of 80% corn, 8% rye, and 12% malted barley, distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee. After being charcoal mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, the whiskey is aged in handcrafted new

American white oak barrels built from staves aged in the open air for a prolonged period. This extra time softens tannins in the wood prior to barrel toasting, resulting in a smoother palate and bolder color, aroma and flavor. Bottled at 58.7% ABV (117.4 Proof), Halo MK1 Tennessee Whiskey salutes McLaren Racing Founder Bruce McLaren, whose first race car was #58 and an Austin 7 Ulster model.

According to Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Halo MK1 Tennessee Whiskey features a nose of sweet maple, fruit and toasted oak, followed by a palate that opens with sweet caramel and chocolate notes and evolves to include pipe tobacco and baking spice. The finish is bold with lingering notes of barrel spice and brown sugar candy.

Mossburn Dupont Calvados Cask Finish

The Mossburn Cask Collaboration Series is a testament to enduring friendships, bringing together the knowledge, craft and experience of two producers from different catergories, in a meeting of inquisitive minds and iconic spirits.

This collaboration with the Dupond family, Calvados producers in Normandy’s Pays d’Auge since 1887, is the second in the series. The single malts for this blend were chosen from four Speyside distilleries and aged for 12 years in refill American oak hogsheads, then married together and re-aged in French oak barrels that previously held Calvados and Pommeau, both typical of the Normandy region.

The Master Distiller chose these four single malts for their spicy florality and nutticess, to combine during the second maturation with the baked apple and oaky spice that the Calvados casks would contribute. The final whisky has a well-rounded complexity with notes od red apple, ginger, nut brittle and a gentle spic finish.

Bottled at batch strength, at natural colour and no chill filtration.

There isn’t much to really say about something as classic as this, is there? Well, this is the first bottle of Springbank 15 year old that I’ve ever owned, thanks in part to Andy and our little bottle splits! He wasn’t a fan of this, so I’ve safely taken it off his hands.

Matured in what I assume is mostly sherry, perhaps with a splash of ex-bourbon cask in there as well. It’s somewhat if the classic Springbank profile: chocolate, dates, plums, a little touch of sherry and then some of those funkier more industrial notes pulling through towards the end of the profile.

What I am looking for are recommendations to alternatives to this bottle. I’ll no doubt finish this quite soon as I’m really enjoying it – but apart from the usual comparison of Benromach, what else is there that gets lose to this very famous profile?

About Sir Kenny Dalglish

As a player, Sir Kenny Dalglish was the IOC European Footballer of the Season, a Ballon D’or Runner Up and FWA Tribute Award recipient. As a manager, Sir Kenny goes down in history, having won the First Division title with Liverpool on three occasions and the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers, a season which also saw him presented with the Premier League Manager of the Season award.

Following the closure of the 137-year-old Hooghoudt Distillery, Must Have Malts has acquired 314 of the remaining 587 casks (over 53% of the stock). We have taken custodianship of these whiskies to ensure they are refined and released with the patience they deserve rather than being lost to the general auction market.

Billy Walker’s Involvement: The legendary Billy Walker originally selected these casks in the 1990s and recently tasted them again, recommending a finishing program in American oak to perfect the spirit.

Unique Maturation: Due to unusually dry storage, some casks saw alcohol strength rise by over 15%, a rare phenomenon in Northern Europe.

Historical Record: The acquisition includes what would be the oldest Dutch whisky ever released (29 years old).
