Glengoyne 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Whisky Advocate ~ This variant of Glengoyne replaces the popular 17 year old as part of an overhaul of the core range, and the maturation regime has included what the distillers describe as ‘a generous proportion of first-fill Sherry casks.’ Milk chocolate, vanilla, melon, and grapefruit on the nose, with burgeoning dry Sherry and fruitcake. The palate is rich and well rounded, with cinnamon and ginger, almonds, orange marmalade, sweeter sherry, and caramel. Lingering spices and easy-going oak in the lengthy finish. (GS, Spring-2013).
Aged in both hogshead and Sherry casks, the Glengoyne 18 year old is currently one of the best deals in single malt whisky at K&L. It boasts a creamy, unctuous texture and malty, sweetly spiced finish. The chewiness of the Sherry cask-aged portion shows through and adds richness to a lovely stone-fruit character in the whisky itself. For those who love Glenmorangie 18 year but would like more Sherry notes to round out the finish, this is a better overall whisky for the same price.
