Eagle Rare 12YO, 47.5%

THE VIDEO

I, like many others, was quite excited when this hit the UK shores. Eagle Rare is such a solid bottle of bourbon, especially when you can get it for a normal price – in all honesty, we’re lucky to have access to something as good as that.

Enter Eagle Rare 12 Year Old! a slightly older, boozier version of a gold standard. The big question is, do we think it’s worth the extra £20/£25 per bottle? Those extra few years in Kentucky warehousing can be brutal on flavour as well as evaporation. The shelves are less dense with aged bourbon than they used to be, but it does go to show that bourbon of this age is certainly doable.

Age isn’t an indicator of quality, we’re looking for flavour differences and flavour intensity. Does this do more? Is it more complex? Does the flavour last for longer? Those are the questions that are going to convince you to possibly part with 50% more than the price of the 10 Year Old classic.
