The House of Suntory Unveils Its Oldest Mizunara-Aged Yamazaki Expression to Date: Yamazaki 25 Years Old Mizunara

The Oldest 100% Mizunara-Cask Aged Yamazaki Expression from The House of Suntory

NEW YORK (August, 2025) – The House of Suntory proudly announces the release of Yamazaki 25 Years Old Mizunara, the oldest fully Mizunara-aged expression in Yamazaki’s history. A bold tribute to the artistry and innovation that define the House, this remarkable whisky celebrates two of its most iconic pillars: the revered Mizunara Japanese Oak and the pioneering spirit of Yamazaki.

First embraced by The House of Suntory in the 1940s, Mizunara oak is known for its delicate grain and demanding nature, requiring exceptional craftsmanship. Whiskies must be aged for at least a decade for the wood to reveal its signature character: an intricate aroma woven with hints of sandalwood, coconut, and smoldering incense, resulting in whisky that is subtle, refined, yet complex.

Yamazaki 25 Years Old Mizunara is a rare and refined single malt aged exclusively in Mizunara oak casks. While previous expressions, such as Yamazaki 55 Years Old, featured partial Mizunara maturation, this release marks the oldest expression to be aged 100% in Mizunara casks from Yamazaki. To honor the rarity of this prized wood, it is encased in a handcrafted box, assembled using a traditional Japanese nail-free “locking” method. This new release presents a sweetness like apricot compote, cacao latte-like smoothness, and spiciness evoking nutmeg and cardamom on the nose; a bittersweet, spicy flavor with orange notes and nuances of cream on the palate; and a complex woodiness of Mizunara oak with bittersweet hints of oriental herbal medicine.

Bottled at 48% ABV, Yamazaki 25 Years Old Mizunara is available globally in select markets, both in stores and online, for a SRP $7,500 USD. The new expression meets the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association’s criteria for authentic Japanese Whisky: 100 percent distilled, matured, and bottled in Japan.

Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old at The Whisky Shop – Islay Scotch Whisky News

Bunnahabhain 25 Year Old

70cl 46.30% abv Scotch Whisky Single Malt Islay

Bunnahabhain lies on the north-eastern tip of Islay and means ‘mouth of the river’. Distillery building commenced in 1881 and the following year full production began. Bunnahabhain is quite distinct from the other Islay single malts – firstly, it is created using unpeated malted barley in a time-honoured distillation process and secondly, this isolated coastal sanctuary takes advantage of the pure spring water that flows freely underground away from the peaty moorlands.

This 25 year old expression adds sweet and spicy notes to the “fruit and nut” signature style of Bunnahabhain.

Ardbeg Anthology #3 – The Beithir’s Tale 2025 Whisky 15 Year Old – Hard To Find Whisky News

Ardbeg Anthology #3 – The Beithir’s Tale 2025 Whisky 15 Year Old

70cl · 46% ABV

£129.95

Beithir: A fearsome—and famously thirsty—serpentine creature, said to bring misfortune to any who dare cross its path.

The third and final edition in the Ardbeg Anthology Collection features the legendary Beithir. Matured for 15 years in specially crafted bourbon casks—air-seasoned, heavily toasted, and lightly charred—this limited edition single malt is a whisky of mythic character. With a nose that entices, a texture that slithers silkily across the palate, and a finish that lingers like legend, The Beithir’s Tale is a dram not easily forgotten.

The Beithir’s Tale is a supremely aromatic dram. Just a splash of water unveils bold waves of eucalyptus and menthol, followed by piercing notes of fennel and pine. Peat smoke and coffee grits intertwine with sweet raisins, mellow vanilla, and a whisper of smoked butter—proving once more that Ardbeg is no stranger to the extraordinary.

Aroma: Bold and complex. Pungent, oily, and spicy with rich treacle wrapping around creosote & smoked herbs. Hints of toasted apples and raisins add a hidden sweetness. With water, expect a vivid burst of eucalyptus and menthol, followed by aromatic fennel & pine.

Taste: Astonishingly well-balanced. A sizzling mouthfeel gives way to earthy peat smoke, coffee grits, and currants. Sweet lemon balsam intertwines with smoked mandarins, leading into a sharp, smoky tang.

Finish: Long and meandering, it trails off with elegant notes of vanilla and smoked butter.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews McConnell’s Irish Whiskey, Cognac Finish – Irish Whiskey News

McConnell’s Irish Whiskey, Cognac Finish, 46%

THE VIDEO

McConnell’s Irish Whisky has a story that stretches back to 1776. From its humble beginnings with Hugh McConnell, a grocer and spirit dealer in Belfast, to Eleanor McConnell continuing the business as a distiller in 1841, resilience has always been at our core.

By 1899, J & J McConnell opened Cromac Distillery on Belfast’s Ravenhill Road, famed for its pure water and world-renowned ginger ale. But tragedy struck, fires in 1907 and 1909 destroyed whiskey stocks and warehouses, some of the worst in Belfast’s history.

Even after such setbacks, McConnell’s endured until Prohibition in the 1930s forced closure. Today, Belfast Distillery Company has proudly revived this legendary whiskey, bringing McConnell’s back to bars, pubs, and international markets.

From Belfast-born roots to worldwide recognition, McConnell’s is back, and we’re only getting started.

BUFFALO TRACE DISTILLERY ANNOUNCES THE JOHN G. CARLISLE CAFE: A PERMANENT NEW DINING OPTION COMING SOON TO THE DISTILLERY – American Whiskey News

BUFFALO TRACE DISTILLERY ANNOUNCES THE JOHN G. CARLISLE CAFE: A PERMANENT NEW DINING OPTION COMING SOON TO THE DISTILLERY

Located on the first floor of the Elmer T. Lee Clubhouse, the John G. Carlisle Cafe is slated to open Spring 2026

FRANKFORT, KY (August 12, 2025) – Buffalo Trace Distillery today announces the John G. Carlisle Cafe – a new, permanent dining option slated to open in Spring 2026 on the Distillery’s grounds. Named in honor of U.S. Congressman John G. Carlisle, a pivotal figure in both American spirits and Buffalo Trace Distillery’s history, the cafe will bring an entirely new visitor experience to guests looking to enjoy food and beverage on-site while visiting the Distillery.

Located on the first floor of the Elmer T. Lee Clubhouse, the John G. Carlisle Cafe is a 4,900-square-foot facility offering indoor and porch-seating capacity for 70 people. Primarily serving lunch, the menu features fresh, made to order items such as sandwiches, salads, soups and more, as well as a kid’s menu. Additionally, the John G. Carlisle Cafe will offer guests a limited cocktail menu featuring select Buffalo Trace products.

“The John G. Carlisle Cafe is an exciting new addition to the Buffalo Trace Distillery visitor experience, allowing our team to connect with guests in a brand new way,” said Tyler Adams, General Manager, Buffalo Trace Distillery. “Offering permanent food and beverage options alongside our complimentary tours and tastings is a natural extension to the Distillery’s legacy of hospitality and craftsmanship. The Cafe will bring a welcoming space that celebrates our history and complements the authentic experience we are known for.”

Whether dining inside or on the porch, the John G. Carlisle Cafe will be the perfect spot for guests to stop before or after a Distillery tour, as well as for shoppers visiting the Buffalo Trace Gift Shop. Though open to the public, those looking to visit the John G. Carlisle Cafe for lunch will need to follow the Distillery’s check-in system inside the Freehouse welcome building located beside the visitor parking lot.

The Cafe’s namesake, John G. Carlisle, played a crucial role in the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 – a landmark law that established quality and safety standards for American whiskey. To honor Carlisle’s contributions, Buffalo Trace Distillery forefather Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. named one of the two distilleries he built after him. Located alongside Taylor’s O.F.C. Distillery, The Carlisle Distillery was later managed by Albert B. Blanton, who renamed it the Kentucky River Distillery shortly before Prohibition. Though the distillery was demolished during the 1936 expansion to make way for the current mash house, its legacy endures.

A commemorative plaque and stone from the original Carlisle Distillery building, currently located on-site near Guardhouse 1, will be relocated to the flowerbed to the right of the John G. Carlisle Cafe entrance.

Construction of the John G. Carlisle Cafe is already underway, and the facility is slated to open in Spring 2026. Hours of operation will be announced closer to opening.

Kentucky Distillers’ Association Statement on Return to Zero Tariffs on Bourbon in Canada

Kentucky Distillers’ Association Statement on Return to Zero Tariffs on Bourbon in Canada

We applaud Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to restore reciprocal zero-to-zero tariffs for Kentucky Bourbon and many other remaining goods covered under the USMCA. We hope this action will jump start negotiations on a permanent trade deal, benefiting both American businesses and Canadian consumers seeking to enjoy America’s only native spirit.

We look forward to the day when Canadians can toast the return of Kentucky Bourbon to their provinces and territories, and we thank the leaders of Alberta and Saskatchewan for their earlier decisions to return Kentucky Bourbon and other American alcoholic beverages to their shelves.

The Whisky Exchange ‘Elegant whiskies to savour this summer’ – Scotch Whisky News

To prove that the noble dram can be refreshing on a summer’s day, we’ve assembled a selection of light, floral and fruit-forward singe malts and blends that really shine in the warmer weather (while warm weather is still here!).
