Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 583: Double Barrel Speyside & Lowland Douglas Laing

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a blended malt of two barrels. Double Barrel has been around since 2008 and was quite an innovative and daring release from Douglas Laing at the time. As the name suggests, this is a blended malt from two different barrels, each a combination of various distilleries from different regions. In the past, they used to mention the distilleries – e.g. Ardbeg/Aultmore or Macallan/Laphroaig – but in recent years they have started working with regions instead. Nowadays, there is a Speyside & Lowland, Islay & Highland edition. Mark is tasting the Speyside & Lowland, but he has no idea which malts were used. All he found out is that one barrel contained an 8-year-old malt, the other a 10-year-old malt.
