Decadent Drams Teaninich 13YO – Scotch Whisky News

Decadent Drams Teaninich 13 years old

A 2011, 13 year old Teaninich. Matured in a 1st fill hoghsead and bottled at natural cask strength.

This is simultaneously both a modern and an old school whisky. It is delicious but discombobulating. You will probably find yourself, much like our label cover star, Ozark the Drambot, confounded and existentially torn between the incompatible dualities of his existence. However, we would appreciate it if you didn’t focus too much on that outcome and still purchased bottles like a dutiful consumer.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Uncle Nearest 84 Proof – American Whiskey News

Uncle Nearest 84 Proof, 42%

THE REVIEW

Uncle Nearest has become such a fantastic modern brand with so much history to dive into. It was founded by Victoria Eady-Butler, a descendant of Nathan Green, the man who taught a young Jack Daniel’s how to distil.

This newer release has been bottled at a lower strength to welcome people into the fold of American whiskey. It is a gentle, sweet, lime driven style of Tennessee whiskey, which is a flavour profile that I’ve never really experienced within American spirits before. As it’s a lower proof, this is an incredible pour and play style of whisky that doesn’t offer a complex flavour but does offer a sweet, easy drinking,
different style of American whiskey to what big brands tend to offer.

If this was available in the UK, I honestly believe that it would fly off the shelves for all of the right reasons. Whether you’re drinking this neat, mixing, or cocktails, it just works.

NEW DECADENT DRAMS RELEASE: DECADENT DRAMS SMÖGEN – 8 YEAR OLD – Swedish Whisky News

DECADENT DRAMS SMÖGEN – 8 YEAR OLD

The sibling bottling to our 10 year old 2014 Smögen, this is a 2016 that matured initially in two 1st fill oloroso sherry quarter casks, before being combined and re-racked into a 2nd fill sherry hogshead.

The resulting 8 year old has been bottled with a few degrees reduction to 57.1%. The result is a very sherried example of Smögen, where full sherry maturation has allowed maximum integration with the underlying heavy peat to make an amazingly intense, rich, umami and salty example with some really stunning sherry influence and power.

The Harris Journal: The Sun Rises On February – Scotch Whisky News

One of the early signs that we’re seeing the last of winter is the sort of stunning sunrises we seem to get at this special time of year. According to the weather boffins at the BBC there’s apparently some science behind it too.

The sun is lower in the sky for much longer than in the summer months, so the colours have much more time to build. The cold skies often less humid too and the clearer air makes the hues appear more vivid.

Whatever the rational reason, it makes the early morning shifts for the distilling team even more of a pleasure as the windows of their Spirit Hall look out to the east.

As the day dawned today Rebecca Passmore captured this pic, with a slow glow of oranges, pinks and purples reflecting off the waters of East Loch Tarbert and the rainwater gathered on our whisky barrel tops.

Wishing you all a great week ahead and for more photos and tales from Tarbert, read on…

Le gach deagh dhùrachd,

Mike Donald, Chief Storyteller

With winter still at our door there are few things more appealing than the prospect of a fireside dram, particularly if you’ve just escaped inclement island weather. The Hearach single malt was made for drinking, and the elegant, complex flavours captured in every glass promise a perfect pour at this time of year.

Gentle aromas of peat smoke give way to notes of toasted malt in your glass as flavours of apple, wildflowers, spice, clotted cream and candied sweets unwind. It’s a true Outer Hebridean whisky and full of local character. Simply order your bottle online or from your nearest stockist, and open to discover more…

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 553: Johnnie Walker Blue Label The Casks Edition – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 553: Johnnie Walker Blue Label The Casks Edition

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries a special Johnnie Walker Blue Label. “This is a bottle I had been looking for for a long time, and then suddenly my friend Johan showed up at the door and said I should just open it and taste it”, Mark says. That didn’t need to be said twice. This is the Blue Label at cask strength (well, at 55.8%, it’s more like batch strength, as several versions have been launched over the years). Now, Mark is curious whether this will be the ‘regular’ Blue Label on steroids, or if it will bring a completely different experience.

The Bourbon is matured in Heaven Hill’s rickhouses under the careful supervision of Master Distiller Conor O’ Driscoll, who monitors the progress of each year’s vintage to ensure it maintains its intended flavor profile and superb quality. Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage has won five “Whiskey of the Year” awards and is one of the most critically acclaimed specialty Bourbons produced by Heaven Hill Distillery, the world’s second largest holder of aging Bourbon.

“For more than five decades, the Pegasus Pin has been synonymous with springtime in Louisville and an iconic symbol of the Kentucky Derby Festival,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO. “We know this special edition bottle dressed in our signature pink color will be popular with pin collectors and Festival Fans alike.”
