OLD PERTH WHISKY UNVEILS LIMITED EDITION ‘OLD PERTH 2009’

Release Date: 13th February

RRP: £98
ABV: 53.6%
Available in: UK, Europe, Japan, Australia

Old Perth is proud to announce the release of an exceptional Limited Edition – Old Perth Vintage Collection 2009, a rich and bold whisky that showcases the complexity and depth achieved through a unique selection of three carefully chosen sherry casks. Only 1480 bottles have been produced, making this an exclusive release that whisky enthusiasts won’t want to miss.

The Casks: A Sherry Lover’s Dream

This limited-edition expression features a captivating combination of three distinct sherry casks: First Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask, Second Fill Oloroso Sherry Cask  & First Fill PX Sherry Cask. The rich, deep flavours imparted by these casks have resulted in a whisky that is bold, complex, and layered with indulgent notes of dried fruit, spice, and a touch of nutty richness. The casks themselves are of the finest quality, with the Oloroso hogsheads sourced directly from Miguel in Jerez, Spain, and the ex-Vasyma second fill butt crafted from European oak.

Nose, Palate & Finish: A Journey of Flavour

  • Colour: Deep mahogany. Dark and inviting.
  • Nose: A beautifully aromatic nose of sandalwood and dried tobacco leaves, complemented by sun-dried fruits, raisins, and sultanas.
  • Palate: The first sip is packed with dried fruits, raisins, sultanas, and a hint of candied orange rind. Rich brown sugar mingles with warming spices—cinnamon, root ginger, and cloves—to create a truly indulgent experience.
  • Finish: The rich nuttiness takes center stage as the dried fruits and spice gradually fade. A long-lasting presence remains on the palate, with a delicate waxiness lingering in the background.

Tasting Profile:
This whisky is rich, spicy, and bold, with layers of dried fruit, sugar, and spice blending harmoniously to create a whisky that is simply irresistible. It’s a celebration of sugar and spice, and all things nice.

What Makes This Whisky Special?

The creation of this limited-edition blended malt was a result of extensive sampling from a range of 2009 vintage casks, carefully sourced from multiple distilleries. The whisky is a vatting of different cask sizes, including hogshead and butts, both of which contributed to its complexity and richness. Each cask was nosed and tasted individually, with only the most standout samples being shortlisted for blending. After iterative blending, nosing, and tasting, a final blend was created and refined over time. A panel of whisky experts democratically selected the final expression, ensuring it met Old Perth’s exacting standards.

A Limited Release

With just 1482 bottles available globally, this is a rare opportunity for whisky enthusiasts to experience a truly remarkable expression. The whisky will be available in select markets including the UK, Europe, Japan, and Australia, at an RRP of £98 per bottle.

About Old Perth

Old Perth is known for its innovative and meticulously crafted blended malt whiskies. With a focus on quality and distinctive flavour profiles, Old Perth continues to push the boundaries of whisky creation, offering whisky lovers unique and memorable expressions that showcase the art of blending.

Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers is solely owned and operated by one of Scotland’s oldest and most prominent whisky families, Jamie and Brian Morrison. There has been over five generations of the Morrison family involved in the whisky business including grocers, brokers, blenders, bottlers and distillers, making them one of Scotland’s oldest whisky families.

Their heritage gives them access to a wide variety of unique and exceptional casks from pedigree distilleries across Scotland. Their family’s values are run through everything they do and they proudly showcase these underneath each of their bottles reiterating their commitment to Patience, Intuition and Integrity.

In every whisky they release, they are committed to continue to impart the knowledge that has been passed down from generations of family whisky makers. Our chairman’s great-grandfather, William Walker, one of the pre-eminent whisky brokers of his era, worked closely with various distilleries on the island, even advocating on behalf of the Islay whisky trade to American businesses on the repeal of US prohibition in 1933.

Walker grew very fond of Islay, where he eventually purchased a home, and played an integral part in developing transport, trade and marketing of the Island’s produce.  His philanthropic nature was deeply appreciated by Islay residents – with the Glasgow Islay Association (of which he was a life member and chairman) noting in 1934 “In the Island itself, he has closely identified himself with every cause worthy of support”.

In 1963 a chance lunchtime encounter at a Glasgow restaurant led to Stanley P Morrison, the son-in-law of William Walker, purchasing of Islay’s oldest distillery — Bowmore (established in 1779) — that evening. Morrison Bowmore Distillers was created and emerged as a globally-recognised brand of quality Single Malt Scotch

Whisky, producing a characterful spirit with some legendary bottlings. Morrison Bowmore Distillers was acquired by Suntory in 1994.

This gorgeous barrel of 8-year-old Russell’s Reserve was distilled on September 14th, 2015, and bottled just before its 9th birthday in 2024. Aged on the fifth floor in Tyrone’s excellent warehouse K, the higher elevation and different warehouse strongly contrasts the other “younger” barrel from this series. These four barrels, we affectionately refer to as the Water Ways series, highlight the many small streams and rivers that meander around the distillery and ultimate flow into the neighboring Kentucky River. Cedar Brook is a particularly relevant name for the area, as it was once the name of a local distillery that operated outside of Lawrenceburg. Now the only distiller in the area is the wonderful Wild Turkey and this doozy of a barrel is no exception. It’s always striking to appreciate just how good these barrels can be at only 8 years of age, but we always forget that the flag ship product, which was quite well regarded in its day, was the old Wild Turkey 8 year 101 proof. Now we expect our bourbon to be older, yet 8 years seems often to be the sweet spot. Here we have the perfect balance between dense red Turkey fruit and earthy herbal barrel spice. A sweet and savory one that will scratch the itch of so many Turkey lovers without a doubt.

“I’M GOING TO SCOTLAND”: HARRISON FORD BECOMES THE FACE OF GLENMORANGIE SINGLE MALT WHISKY – Scotch Whisky News

“I’M GOING TO SCOTLAND”: HARRISON FORD BECOMES THE FACE OF GLENMORANGIE SINGLE MALT WHISKY

‘Unconventional’ campaign sees Hollywood icon star alongside distillery team

Glenmorangie Highland single malt Scotch whisky has today revealed a new global campaign starring cinematic icon, Harrison Ford. Legendary for his countless iconic movie roles, the Hollywood actor brings his trademark wry humour to the fore in a series of episodic films directed by actor and film-maker Joel Edgerton.

Once Upon a Time in Scotland takes us behind-the-scenes as Harrison Ford journeys to Glenmorangie’s Highland home, to discover the skill and craftmanship that goes into making each bottle of its complex and elegant whisky. It sees the actor enjoy the authentic Scottish experience — from getting to grips with the nuances of Scottish pronunciation and kilt etiquette, to bonding with locals over a dram of single malt — all shot in an unconventional, deliberately ‘off-script’ style.

Filmed in the picturesque north-east Highlands of Scotland, the campaign captures the natural beauty of the local area: from the historic distillery in Tain where Glenmorangie has been created for over 180 years, to the storied 19th century Ardross Castle, and the dramatic landscapes surrounding Loch Glass.  Appearing alongside Ford are the real Glenmorangie distillery team — who embraced their first experience of acting under the guidance of a global cinematic legend — while the brand’s flagship whiskies, Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old also take on a starring role.

Edgerton’s 12 episodes and hero film are complemented by still images shot by acclaimed fashion photographer Lachlan Bailey. They feature Ford as he’s never been seen before: donning a stylish Scottish kilt designed by streetwear brand Palace.

Caspar MacRae, President & CEO of The Glenmorangie Company, said:

“Harrison Ford is the real deal: a true global icon, and a genuine whisky lover. It was a dream come true to collaborate on this campaign, and welcome him to our home in the Highlands to discover more about Glenmorangie. He is someone who has honed his craft over decades, which gives him a real appreciation for the dedication and skill of our distillery team.  Like us, he’s not afraid to laugh at himself – and I think Joel has perfectly captured his authentic warmth, alongside his roguish sense of humour.

“We hope whisky lovers around the world will enjoy exploring the episodes, and learning more about the real people and places behind our whiskies, through Harrison’s eyes.”

Harrison Ford, star of Once Upon a Time in Scotland, said:

“I loved working with the team at the Distillery — they were all great. The whole process of filming was full of unanticipated joys: little unexpected moments. It’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious. I think what Joel has produced has a certain charm to it, because it’s unpretentious and just amusing.”

Joel Edgerton, Director, Once Upon a Time in Scotland, said:

“I’ve spent my whole life watching commercials that follow an expected format and so I really like it when things are a little disruptive, fun, and irreverent. It was nice that we got a chance within the very traditional industry of whisky to get behind the scenes, to subvert the seriousness that often goes into an advertising campaign and have fun with that. I hope that people get to see the short film and the full-length episodes – and enjoy them and share them around.”

Once Upon a Time in Scotland will roll out globally from 28 January 2025 spanning online video, connected TV, out-of-home formats, experiential, PR and social media. Six full-length episodes and an array of behind-the-scenes content will initially be available to view on glenmorangie.com, with the rest released throughout 2025.
