Whisky Wednesday Reviews Ardnamurchan Adelphi 10YO- Scotch Whisky News

Ardnamurchan Adelphi 10YO, 56.8%

https://youtu.be/K7nk37Tourg

Finally, my review of this fan boy unicorn bottle! I’ve been chasing this since Edinburgh 2024, and I finally got my hands on it in September. But, with the way things have gone, it’s taken a while to get around to reviewing it. Oddly enough, this is one of the rare whiskies that I’m enjoying with water, but we’ll cover those notes further down.

Having followed Ardnamurchan since that first ever bottle release, they’ve won my heart. This first ever 10 Year Old bottling was quite an achievement for them, and I couldn’t be prouder to own one.

Flavour wise, this bottle is heavy with salt, caramel, brioche, yeasty esters, and a little tropical hint of pineapple and coconut. The salt does dominate the taste, but with water, you get more of those heavy caramel and biscuit flavours.

This is a true delight, and I couldn’t be happier to have it in my collection. Cheers!

The Glent Grant 25 Year Old at The Whisky Exchange – Scotch Whisky News

THE GLASSHOUSE: GLEN GRANT 25 YEAR OLD

Glen Grant’s single malts are known for their light, apple fresh character, but the Glasshouse collection uncovers a deeper complexity in the distillery’s whisky, a quality that can only be achieved through time.

These rare malts represent some of the oldest expressions the distillery has ever released, marking not only 180 years of whisky-making but the culmination of Master Distiller Dennis Malcolm OBE’s 60 year career before his retirement.

The Glasshouse collection gets its name from the vast Victorian greenhouses built by Co-founder James ‘The Major’ Grant on the distillery’s estate. A passionate traveller, Grant filled this space with tropical plants and flowers, which inspired three exceptional single malts, each representing a different part of the day within the glasshouse.

The limited edition 25 year old was matured in only the best bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, resulting in tropical notes of coconut, mango, and white stone fruit, with hints of toffee and sun-dried raisins.

A fitting tribute to James Grant and long-time custodian Dennis Malcolm OBE, these rare whiskies represent the closing of a chapter in the distilleries history and the start of something new.

The incredible Dornoch Distillery is easily the most exciting new distillery operation in Scotland today. Run by brothers Phil & Simon Thompson, they understand the desires of true whisky lovers like few other distillers in the region. While their tiny distillery can only produce a handful of barrels a year, they’re in the process of building a much more substantial plant and while we wait, they’ve built an excellent independent bottling operation known as Thompson Bros (Redacted Bros stateside.) This special whisky pays homage to their home region, a gorgeous slice of Scotland known as Sutherland. This windswept county stretches from just north of Tain over the Dornoch Firth to the tip of northwestern Scotland and the North Atlantic Sea. Every drop of malt in this blend is distilled in Sutherland county and there are only three distillers in the area – Dornoch, Clynelish, and Brora. With a rough breakdown of 1/3, 2/3 and 1%, all three are represented within this bottle. This is the first product commercially available featuring Dornoch’s delicious own distillate yet to be released in the US. Widely sought-after in markets across the world and available exclusively at K&L. This release has completely sold out in other markets in a matter of minutes and the US pre-arrival is priced 20-30% below what it commanded in the UK.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 549: Auchentoshan 14 Year Old Sherry Cask Taiwan Exclusive – Scotch Whisky News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 549: Auchentoshan 14 Year Old Sherry Cask Taiwan Exclusive

Last summer, Mark suddenly saw a post on social media about this 14-year-old Auchentoshan being bottled exclusively for Taiwan. Fortunately, he has quite a few friends who travel frequently and it was only a matter of asking the question on Facebook before someone – in this case his friend Lars who divides his life between Germany and Hong Kong – made it clear to him that he could easily get hold of this, take the bottle to Germany and ship it from there. Mark begged him on his bare knees (sorta) to score two; one for the collection, one to open. And so he did… Strangely, it says ‘Aged 14 Years – Sherry Cask – Sweet & Rich’ on the label, even though the small print indicates that it is a vatting of bourbon and sherry casks. Oh, well.

Old Pulteney “Huddart” Ex-Peated AnCnoc Cask Finished Single Malt ~ Scotch Whisky News

Old Pulteney “Huddart” Ex-Peated AnCnoc Cask Finished Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (Previously $60) $19.99 View

94 Points | Wine Enthusiast | Review Date: 12/2021

Sea air, toasted almond and subtle peat smoke mark the nose of this single malt. The palate opens assertively smoky and savory, mixing bacon and mesquite with almond, honey and spice. This was aged in ex-bourbon casks and finished in casks that previously held peated whisky. (KN).

Old Pulteney, the brilliant distillery situated on Scotland’s Northern coast, only makes unpeated malt. For this unusual bottling, they’ve finished their malt in casks that previously held heavily peated anCnoc single malt from their sister distillery Knockdhu. You get all the salty brine of Pulteney combined with the intense peat of anCnoc for a special take on the peaty, salty style of whisky more familiar to fans of Islay.

David Othenin-Girard K&L Buyer Review Date: 12/2024

This is one of those deals where our price is so ridiculously low it gives people pause. You may remember the Old Pulteney Clipper or the Balblair 2005 that we secured earlier this year. Each one of those flew off our shelves once the word got out and I received hundreds of emails asking me if we were going to get more. It’s astonishing that we were able to work this deal, mostly because this this is still available all over the place at the much higher price. That was not the case either of the other two. But here we are.

A beautiful highland malt ace’d in a heavily peated highland cask, gives us just the tiny kiss of smoke that I often crave when tasting modern Old Pulteney. I’m sad to say that this is every bit worth the $60 they want to charge for it, and I’d have been happy to continue to sell it at that price, but right we’re in a valuation creation mode and we cannot resist the opportunity to share the value that this type of deal creates for our customers. Let’s have a taste.

The color is lovely restrained deep gold (0.8), likely no coloring added here although it’s not stated on the bottle. The nose offers no strong smoke or peat aromas, instead the cask finish serves to heighten the classical salty maritime character of the Pulteney malt in an extremely appealing way. With a bit of air, the sweet sea air envelopes a basket of fresh orchard fruit pear, yellow plum, lemon rind and apricot skins. Beyond that a deep base note of malt offers some savory earthy, rich nutty and sweet biscuit notes. The palate is extremely pleasurable in a very overt sort of way -the savory notes described in the critical review maybe have tamed slightly in bottle over the last several years, but a pure and linear twinge of peat slices right thru the gorgeous salty fruit on the front palate. Very subtle wood smoke, roasted heather, oily nuts, and lingering salt sits on the back palate and build toward a beautiful spice driven finish.

It’s not giant bruiser or powerhouse, instead offering a complexity often lost in NAS malts and while it might put off those who absolutely HATE peat (albeit the Highland style rather than the brackish iodine of Islay), I highly doubt that anyone else will find this overly smoky or peaty in anyway. This is first-rate malt, which truly shouldn’t be available for the price we’re charging. You’ve been warned that this is not to be missed, so don’t come crying to me when it’s all gone!
