Click Whisky Auctions September 2024 Auction NOW LIVE! – Auction Whisky News

SEPTEMBER AUCTION WELL UNDERWAY!

It might be getting towards the end of summer but things are only just getting started in our LIVE September auction; a small but interesting selection of drams as always, like this 1969 Macallan 25 Years Old Anniversary Malt. It’s worth remembering that the Anniversary Malt series was very highly regarded amongst whisky experts as some of the best Macallan produced over the years, during an era that saw some remarkable drams from the Speyside distillery. A great way to celebrate a milestone event!

Another belting bottling is this 1975 St Magdelene. This incredibly rare example of the now closed distillery, was bottled in 1987 from Society Cask number 49.1, the first expression of St Magdelene bottled by SMWS.

We also have a cracking selection of Flora & Fauna bottlings available, including rarer bottles like Rosebank, Blair Athol and Aultmore, the later being distilled in 1983 and then bottled at cask strength in 1997.

These are only a few of the bottles in our September 2024 Auction, to view more wee gems visit clickwhiskyauctions.com. Register to bid. Remember, you’ve got to be in it to win it! Auction ends Sunday 15th September from 8pm BST.

£194.88

TWB Tasting Notes:

Nose: The nose is rich and complex, offering a luxurious bouquet of dried fruits, including figs, raisins, and prunes. These deep, fruity notes are complemented by rich aromas of dark chocolate, treacle, and polished oak. As it opens up, subtle hints of leather, toasted almonds, and a delicate waft of tobacco leaf add layers of depth and sophistication.

Palate: On the palate, this whisky is velvety and indulgent. The rich sweetness of toffee and caramel leads the way, followed by a delightful medley of spiced fruitcake, candied orange peel, and spiced raisins, all hallmarks of the Oloroso sherry influence. The whisky’s long maturation brings a beautifully balanced interplay of sweetness and oak, with warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of dark chocolate adding complexity. The creamy texture envelops the palate, making each sip a decadent experience.

Finish: The finish is long, smooth, and warming, with lingering notes of sherried fruits—particularly figs and raisins—mingling with gentle oak and sweet spices. As the flavors gradually fade, a subtle hint of leather and roasted coffee emerges, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and refinement.

John Moubry commissioned Cambus Distillery in 1806 at Cambus near Alloa to produce malt and grain whisky. He was amongst a group of contemporary distillers ‘paid’ to close their works for a number of years by the Stein and Haig distilling family in order to enable the later to maintain their monopoly in the exportation of Scottish spirits into the London gin market. Cambus Distillery is a lost Lowlands grain whisky distillery having closed in 1993 although its whisky remains available and the site is occupied by a Diageo cask filling works. Hunter Laing Sovereign Cambus grain whiskies are extremely popular.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Rare Find Dailuaine 15YO – Scotch Whisky News

Rare Find Dailuaine 15YO

THE REVIEW

White wine cask finished Dailuaine?

It’s not a very typical sentence in the whisky world, but one we’re currently working with.

I bought this nearly a year ago on holiday. Buying whisky online whilst lounging the pool is quite a nice feeling. But, this one came with its quirks.

My first sip of it wasn’t my favourite. But overtime this has opened up into a very chocolate, fudget, nutty style of whisky – those notes alone aren’t very Dailuaine, but the pepper driven spice and dryness that comes out at the end of this liquid is something very different.

This was an impulse purchase, I don’t regret it. But I was hoping for a very different style of whisky to what I actually got.

About The Dalmore:

Founded in 1839 on the shores of the Cromarty Firth in the Scottish Highlands, The Dalmore has been making masterpieces of whisky for over 180 years.

The 12-point silver stag which proudly adorns each bottle was bestowed upon the first chieftain of Clan Mackenzie in 1263 by King Alexander III of Scotland. The stag became the whisky’s emblem when descendants of the clan took over the distillery in 1878.

The Dalmore distillery’s collection of idiosyncratic stills creates a New Make spirit of unique character and depth – robust and fruity, particularly well-suited to longer and more complex maturation. This allows renowned Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass and his team to develop spirit over longer periods, continuing a tradition of visionary whisky-making as they fully express their art using rare casks from some of the world’s finest wineries and bodegas.

*The Dalmore Distillery is currently closed to visitors, whilst undergoing redevelopment. Whisky making at The Dalmore continues during this time.
