The Glenrothes unveils The 15 – Scotch Whisky News

The Glenrothes unveils The 15

The Glenrothes, known for its award-winning, elegant whiskies, has announced the release of The 15, a boldly balanced single malt that showcases the brand’s whisky making of exception. The 15 becomes a permanent addition to The Glenrothes’ portfolio of prestige whiskies alongside The 25 and The 18.

Often regarded as a secret wonder of Speyside, The Glenrothes has been producing some of the finest single malts in Scotland since 1879. Renowned for its exclusive use of extraordinarily low mineral content spring water, it employs a long distillation approach in tall stills, creating an exceptionally bright and fruity spirit with a refined complexity.

The 15 balances the delicate elegance of its new make spirit with the boldness resulting from 15 years of maturation in European oak sherry seasoned casks, delivering a flavour profile of bright sweet spice. Throughout maturation, the quality of the spirit from every cask is routinely nosed and sampled by Laura Rampling, Master Whisky Maker, who personally selects each cask to ensure the bold balance of The 15 is assured.

The Glenrothes uses oak casks, custom made and seasoned to their specification in Spain. The 15 is 100% naturally coloured by the cask, a characteristic trademark of The Glenrothes’ entire portfolio of prestige whiskies.

The 15 is presented in The Glenrothes’ iconic distillery bottle and packed in a dual-layered cylinder that opens to reveal the whisky within. Drawing inspiration from the natural greenery found throughout The Glenrothes Estate, the packaging of The 15 introduces shades of lichen green in a fitting tribute to the whisky’s Scottish Highland home.

Laura Rampling, Master Whisky Maker at The Glenrothes, said: “Whilst The Glenrothes spirit is inherently delicate in style, it does not get overwhelmed by the bolder flavours created by maturation in first-fill European oak casks. It is this precise and counterintuitive marriage of the delicate and the bold that makes this 15 year old whisky unique, bringing sweet fruit and bright spice together in a deliciously unexpected way.”

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark brown sugar, baked orchard fruits and bright spice – cinnamon, allspice and star anise.  Sweet and creamy hazelnut praline, complemented by the tang of candied orange peel and a touch of maple syrup.  A backbone of toasted oak and soft worn leather adds depth and complexity.

Palate: Caramelised pears, dark chocolate and sweet baking spices – cinnamon, clove and cardamom.  Pecan pie, crystalised ginger and orange marmalade. Soft, rich and mouth-coating.

Finish: Rich, sweet and silky with lingering bright spice.

ADELPHI – THE DANCY MAN – Tyndrum Whisky News

ADELPHI – THE DANCY MAN

Blended Scotch Whisky

Great little gift, at a great price point, from a super independent bottler (owners of Ardnamurchan Distillery). From Adelphi an eye catching blended whisky. From loyal old mature private stock.

The Adelphi ‘Dancey Man’ a mid-19th century cartoon, depicts Sir William Gladstone, as chancellor of the exchequer, performing an energetic Pas de Bas over an ear of barley, to celebrate the passing of a new law that revenue could only be raised on the amount of whisky left in each cask after maturation, and not the level that it was originally filled to. With the penalties for long term maturation lifted, scotch whisky was kept in the cask until it was truly fit to consume.

A remarkably smooth and honey-sweet blend with hints of the sea, chilli pepper, walnuts and distant peat fires.

Selected and bottled by Adelphi Distillery ltd.

Mossburn Linkwood Distillery Single Malt The Party Source Private Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

Mossburn

Single Malt Scotch

TPS Private Barrel

This exceptional cask is a great way to entertain with a flair. Aged for 11 years in a Cognac Hogshead and bottled at Cask Strength. A worthy Linkwood cask. Very occassionally an exceptional cask stands out among the many that lie slowly maturing in our aging wareshouses, specially selected by our Master Blender as worth of bottling as a single cask. In some instances the spirit is then also re-aged or ‘finished’ in a different individual cask to enhance the flavors that have evolved during the initial maturations. This selection of Linkwood is bottled at Cask Strength aged in a Cognac Hogshead. This is an excellent representation of Linkwood and worthy of a Party Source Private Barrel.

Hidden Gems

GORDON & MACPHAIL – Aberdeen Whisky Shop

Convalmore 39 Years Old 1984

Opened as the fourth of Dufftown’s famed seven stills in the heart of Speyside in 1894, Convalmore’s waxy, fruity spirit has very rarely been seen as a single malt whisky. Dedicated almost entirely to blended whiskies, production was interrupted in 1909 by a fire. The distillery expanded in 1964 but was mothballed in 1985. The original buildings are still on the site but the production equipment has been removed. This 39 year old single malt, matured in a bespoke Gordon & MacPhail cask, is a forgotten masterpiece – a lost work of art that revives the spirit of a bygone era. This single malt was distilled on 4th October 1984 and aged in refill Sherry hogshead before bottling on the 19th June 2024. It was bottled at 51.1% ABV, at natural, dark mahogany colour and without chill filtration.

NOSE
Rich treacle toffee aromas combine with cinnamon spice and subtle beewax polish. Stewed raisin comes to the fore alongside soft and sweet butterscotch.

PALATE
Clementine intertwines with stewed forest fruit and toasted hazelnut. Demerara sugar develops, accompanied by subtle coffee bean and a hint of dried banana.

FINISH

A full finish with black pepper and grapefruit zest.

Only 108 bottles produced.

Rosebank 32 Years Old 1991

The history of Rosebank Distillery has been directly linked with the Forth & Clyde canal which sits in its shadow. The waterway linked Scotland’s west and east coasts, and therefore its two main cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh. A distillery called Rosebank was operating as early as 1817. From 1840, under the ownership of the Rankine family, Rosebank prospered. The canal, however, became neglected and the distillery eventually closed its doors in 1993. It was reopened under new ownership to great fanfare in 2024. This release, a lost work of art, is one of the oldest and rarest Rosebank single malts ever released. This single malt was distilled on 3rd July 1991 and aged in first fill Bourbon barrel before bottling on the 18th June 2024. It was bottled at 51.2% ABV, at natural, golden colour and without chill filtration.

NOSE

Fragrant gorse flower aromas intertwine with lime zest and a hint of milk chocolate. Dried banana notes come to the fore alongside an undertone of peanuts.

PALATE
Sweet honeycomb flavours give way to subtle guava and passionfruit. Smooth poached pear leads to vanilla fudge.

FINISH
Medium-bodied with creamy apple and tropical fruit.

Only 141 bottles produced.
