The 146th Auction is now live! – Scotch Whisky Auctions News

Once more unto the breach dear friends, our 146th auction is now live!  We have yet another fabulous selection of drams to peruse this month with over seven thousand bottles of sweetness to choose from.  To get you started on this month’s whisky adventure we have picked out some interesting lots to shine a light on, so without further ado let’s get started.

Karuizawa 30 Year Old Sherry Cask #5437 & 29 Year Old Bourbon Cask #8897

First up is a striking pair of beauties from the famed silent Japanese distillery, Karuizawa.  Released as a pair these were only available at The Whisky Exchange’s Whisky Show at the tail end of 2014 driving their continuing exclusivity.  One a sherry cask, and the other a bourbon both these bottles have been well aged spending 29 and 30 years in their respective casks.  Rare, exclusive and with strikingly attractive label designs these bottles would improve even the finest of whisky collections.

Macallan 1950 75cl

Next we have a fantastically old Macallan, distilled over 70 years ago way back in 1950.  This particular 75cl bottling was for Matthew Clark & Sons, a drinks wholesaler still in business today.  European sherry oak has long been The Macallans preferred ageing method, and from the rich dark colour of the whisky it certainly appears to have been employed here too.  A tremendous time capsule of a bottle which would be a welcome addition to any collection.

Glenlochy 1952 49 Year Old Old Malt Cask

The story of Glenlochy distillery is sporadic to say the least, but in its chequered history it managed to produce some fantastic whisky.  Initially being built in 1898 it changed hands many times before finally falling silent in 1983, and did not produce even one official bottling in its lifetime with its output being entirely devoted to blending stock.  For this reason bottles of Glenlochy, and particularly well aged vintages such as this, have become increasingly rare and we can expect this trend to continue.

Springbank 27 Year Old Countdown Collection

Finally we have another exclusive bottling, this time from Campbeltown heavyweight, Springbank.  This 27 year old is the first of five releases in Springbank’s ‘Countdown Collection’, another 4 bottles will be released annually culminating in their 2028 release which will mark the 200th anniversary of the distillery itself.  If Springbank is your thing (and if it isn’t you should be asking yourself why not) then this is a great opportunity to acquire the first release of what is sure to be an important and coveted collection upon completion.

We have over seven thousand fantastic bottles just waiting to be discovered in this month’s auction, so now is the time to get scrolling through them and start picking your favourites.  Best of luck to all and remember…………don’t lose your bottle.

Catch up on the Latest News from the Cotswolds Distillery – English Whisky News

We have been named the most popular whisky distillery in the UK and Ireland following on from research carried out by whisky experts, The Cask Connoisseur.

With whisky tourism becoming more and more popular, The Cask Connoisseur team looked to chart the top whisky attractions for tourists.

Comments included being a ‘highly sought-after destination in a picturesque location, immersive tours and the opportunity to witness the meticulous craft of distilling first-hand’.

We saw off stiff competition from the likes of heritage Scottish distillery Bruichladdich, which came in fourth place; picturesque Welsh distillery, Penderyn, which was placed fifth; and Dublin’s well-respected Teeling Distillery, which came in tenth place.

Our founder Daniel Szor said: “It is an honour to receive such praise for our distillery. It comes at a time when we have recently completed expansion of our whisky production site and are now the largest producer of English whisky in the UK.

“This accolade serves as a fantastic recognition of the hard work of the entire Cotswolds Distillery team.”

Visitors to the distillery can enjoy a range of distillery experiences, from their award-winning Tour and Tasting to interactive Blending Masterclasses and Virtual Tastings.

Kentucky Distillers’ Association Welcomes Barrels & Billets as Newest Member – American Whiskey News

KENTUCKY DISTILLERS’ ASSOCIATION WELCOMES BARRELS & BILLETS AS NEWEST MEMBER

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) today announced Barrels & Billets in Jefferson County as the newest and 54th distilling member of the non-profit trade group that unites and leads Kentucky’s signature Bourbon and distilled spirits industry.

Owned by Hillerich & Bradsby Co. (H&B), Barrels and Billets is open to the public and offers guests a hands-on, interactive Bourbon experience. Visitors can blend their own Bourbon recipe using six different wood-finished Bourbons to create their own custom flavor profile.

The distillery is one of three venues at the H&B campus located at 800 W Main St. in downtown Louisville. The site includes Barrels & Billets, the award-winning Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and The Skybox, a 5,000 square foot event space.

Patrick Shortridge, Director of Guest Experience at Hillerich & Bradsby Co. said joining the KDA is a big milestone for the new distillery.

“The entire Barrels & Billets team is ecstatic to join KDA and play a role in such an incredible Kentucky industry,” Shortridge said. “We look forward to building onto Barrels & Billets’ fun and unique experience.”

Barrels & Billets focuses on wood finishing techniques for its own line of Bourbons, which include Lucky Lumber Easy Drinking Bourbon, Lead Off Rich & Complex Bourbon and Smokin’ Fastball Smoked Bourbon.

The company’s luxury Bourbon brand, J. Frederick Three Wood Bourbon, was crafted in honor of J. Frederick Hillerich who immigrated to America from Germany in 1842. Hillerich opened a wood shop in Louisville and early on sold barrels for aging Bourbon.

Barrels & Billets joins the KDA as a “Craft” level member, aging between 0 and 10,000 barrels per year.

KDA President Eric Gregory said Barrels & Billets is a fine addition to downtown Louisville’s Museum Row district. “We look forward to working with the Barrels & Billets team as we continue our tireless work to unite our historic industry and secure Kentucky as the one true home for Bourbon,” Gregory said. “We congratulate them on their success and gladly welcome them to the KDA.”

Exclusive Bruichladdich 18 Year Old 🔥 – The Whisky Exchange News

BRUICHLADDICH 18 YEAR OLD
FIRST-FILL SAUTERNES CASK

Bruichladdich is one of Islay’s best known distilleries, with a host of classic releases across not only its eponymous, unpeated range but also under its smoky Port Charlotte and Octomore labels. We’re excited to offer an 18-year-old Bruichladdich single malt matured in a single first-fill Sauternes cask and bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange.

Bruichladdich’s creamy spirit marries very well with wine casks, and the rich and sweet character of Sauternes is a perfect pairing. A long 18 years of maturation in a first-fill cask has given lots of rich and fruity cask character, without hiding the underlying distillery character. Expect notes of vanilla cream, stewed apple, cinnamon and slightly singed toffee on the palate.

Glen Elgin 2010

We are excited to have partnered with Berry Bros. & Rudd on our  Aberdeen Whisky Shop Exclusive. Amongst the numerous distilleries in Speyside, Glen Elgin distillery quietly ambles along within the pines and flitting house martins, confidently producing a rich, fruity spirit. This particular cask began life in an ex-bourbon barrel before ending its journey in a fresh oloroso butt for three years. Bright red fruit and gingerbread spices let you know it has spent some time in sherry. Fresh white peaches, dried apricots and lashings of honey and cream on the finish remind us of its quiet but generous home.

Only 120 bottles were produced.

Dailuaine 25 Years Old Mission Gold

This unique malt was bottled exclusively for our shop. Distilled in 1997 at Dailuaine Distillery, known for its oily, orchard fruit-filled spirit and aged in a bourbon hogshead for two decades before finishing in a compact bourbon cask from Koval Distillery.  This is an unprecedented example of Koval cask maturation. Never before has an older single malt rested for so long in those small casks. Nearly six years in the bourbon cask created a wonderful balance between elegant old spirit and vibrant American oak.  Bottled by Murray McDavid at natural cask strength without chill-filtration or artificial colouring.

Only 137 bottles were produced.
