Wolfburn 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky 🥃 – Scotch Whisky News

We’ve passed many milestones since the first spirit flowed from the stills back in January 2013, but this is perhaps the most significant: today we are hugely proud to announce the launch of Wolfburn 10 Year Old single malt whisky – our first permanent age-statement release.

It’s been a rollercoaster ten years since the distillery was commissioned, but this moment from planned from the beginning: the very first casks filled in January 2013 were top-quality Oloroso sherry butts and every year since we have been fortunate enough to source dozens more near-identical casks – all with a view to one day producing age-statement whiskies. Lovers of our single malts will be relieved to hear that we haven’t used all those sherry butts for our 10 Year Old and further age-statement releases will follow in years to come.

Please keep an eye on our social media channels where there’ll be a chance to win some bottles of 10 Year Old and other goodies in the very near future.

Away from the excitement of the new release the distillery has continued to quietly grow, with additional staff joining both the bottling and production teams – and new distributors in the United States and Poland. 2022 was a record year for sales and the trend looks set to continue in 2023 and beyond.  Our heartfelt thanks to all our friends and supporters far and near. We couldn’t do it without you.

 Slàinte Mhath
The Wolfburn Team

This 10-year-old single malt marks a significant milestone in the history of the distillery: it is our first ever permanent age-statement release. Crafted from spirit fully matured in hand-selected second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, a full decade in Spanish sherry oak has resulted in a delightfully sweet and sumptuous whisky – a fitting testament to the skill, dedication and patience of Wolfburn’s master distillers.

ON THE NOSE:
Soft sherry sweetness melds with figs and raisins. There’s a lovely hint of vanilla and oak present too.

ON THE PALATE:
The depth of flavour is tremendous.
Bold chocolate and dark fruit flavours abound, with overtones of caramel and vanilla, all accompanied by gentle hints of nutmeg and oak smoke.

THE FINISH:
Silky tannins make for a beautifully textured finish; there’s a residual sweetness with dried fruit and caramel flavours lingering to the very end.

Benromach Distillery Launches New Limited-edition Whiskies Matured in Polish Oak – Scotch Whisky News

Benromach Distillery launches new limited-edition whiskies matured in Polish Oak

Benromach Distillery in Speyside has launched a collection of five limited-edition, single cask whiskies, matured in Polish oak casks – with only two of the casks available exclusively in the UK.

To create these unique whiskies, Benromach lightly peated spirit was filled into the five casks in 2011 and spent a decade maturing in dunnage warehouses at Benromach to achieve a smoky, sweet flavour, full of rich fruits and spicy notes.

With two of the five single casks earmarked specifically for the UK, only 590 bottles are available for purchase at a retail price of £95 each.

The whiskies differ in both flavour and strength depending on the cask. With an ABV of 59.1%, Cask 771 has aromas of Seville orange and chocolate raisin, overlaid with a hint of aniseed.

Meanwhile, whisky from Cask 772 has an ABV of 58.6% and a nose of rich stewed fruit with sweet forest fruit, toffee and baked apple. Both have a full and long finish with bonfire embers.

Keith Cruickshank, Distillery Manager at Benromach, said: “Polish oak has long been known for being a fantastic quality oak for whisky maturation, due to the strength and thickness of the wood, as well as the depth of character it brings to the flavour. This is something that can be seen in abundance in our recently released Polish Oak single casks which have spent over a decade maturing in this wood, gifting the Benromach subtly smoky spirit with rich dried fruit, chocolate and toffee notes.

“As every cask is unique, these two single cask releases have different characteristics due to the variations brought through cask maturation. While one is slightly spicy with Seville orange and aniseed, the other is sweet with blueberry, toffee and baked apple.

“We have a very limited number of Benromach Polish Oak available for the UK market and expect there to be a lot of interest from whisky enthusiasts and those searching for something a little different.”

About Benromach Distillery

Originally built in 1898, Benromach Distillery was brought back to life when the Urquhart family realised a lifelong dream to own a distillery in 1993. The distillery was extensively re-equipped over a five-year period before it was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Rothesay in 1998.

In reopening Benromach Distillery, the Urquhart family wanted to create a single malt whisky that has a classic Speyside character: beautifully balanced with a light touch of smoke.

Benromach Distillery is located on the outskirts of the ancient market town of Forres. A five-star visitor centre is open to the public throughout the year. Benromach Distillery is a member of the world-famous Malt Whisky Trail.
