Bowmore Masters’ Selection Third Edition Single Malt Scotch collaboration bottle arrives to the US market

BOWMORE® AND ASTON MARTIN ANNOUNCE US DEBUT OF NEWEST BOTTLE COLLABORATION: MASTERS’ SELECTION THIRD EDITION

Masters’ Selection Third Edition Celebrates Unity and Constancy

NEW YORK, NY – November 1, 2023Bowmore® Islay Single Malt Scotch is pleased to unveil the latest bottle in the storied collaboration with fellow iconic luxury brand partner, Aston Martin: Bowmore Masters’ Selection Third Edition.

The 22-year-old single malt is crafted in the spirit of intentionality by both brands’ creative masters: Bowmore Master Blender Ron Welsh and Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman. It has been double matured in purposefully selected European Oak, and Oloroso Sherry seasoned casks along with an optimal mix of American Oak hogsheads. The result yields the definitively constant character of Bowmore.

Now available in the US for an SRP of $400 per 750-ml. bottle, Bowmore Masters’ Selection Third Edition arrives to the US after a global rollout in markets including the UK, Germany, Canada, and China. Marking the fifth bottle collaboration in a series of marvellous releases since 2020, Masters’ Selection Third Edition represents a partnership driven by a constancy, inherent in each of the Masters’ own approach that comes to life, informed by beauty, knowledge, and inspiration.  Strength and depth unite, just as sweetness and intensity combine to create a powerfully rich and captivating symphony of flavors.

Ron Welsh, Master Blender, Bowmore, said of the latest release: “In the creation of every individual Bowmore, we undertake an endless search for depth; of character, of flavour and with every step we capture the very essence of the past 240 years. This stunning whisky celebrates this defining constant which drives, inspires and immerses us in this quest. Working with Marek and his team has highlighted how this is fundamental to both our creative processes and outcomes.  It is my absolute pleasure to be able to work with Aston Martin as we challenge ourselves and our perceptions together, learning and growing as we go, this is without doubt the most exhilarating and rewarding of collaborations.”

Crafted with consideration over 240 years, Bowmore has an inherent appreciation as to how each moment comes to bear on the character of the whisky, and how time past has shaped today.  Rooted in intentionality, Bowmore’s whiskies are made with purpose, shaping every drop, adding depth and distinction of flavor to shape each single malt. It is this precise ethos which drives the collaboration: sharing the intention to manifest beautiful, timeless creations that define a collaborative legacy, with a firm eye on the future, inspiring what comes next.

For Aston Martin it is restless perpetuity which defines the ambition, the vision, and the focus in the creation of the world’s most desirable, ultra-luxury British performance sportscars, capable of unimaginable feats of engineering and breath-taking performance.

Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin, said, “Our quest is without compromise and could be called obsessive, but that is what makes us relentless in our approach. Like Ron and his team, we push the bespoke nature of our craft to the limits in our pursuit of perfection. We never stop short or settle for anything but the best to achieve the beauty which defines us. This whisky is testament to their passion, talent and human skill.  I remain eternally inspired by the whisky making process and believe this masterpiece of flavour creation perfectly captures the spirit of Aston Martin.”

ABOUT BOWMORE®

For over 240 years, the Bowmore Distillery has been capturing the essence of Islay from the shores of its remote island home. Shaped by centuries of skill and tradition, Bowmore’s single malt harnesses the power of this time in every single drop, defined by the past and savoured in the present.

Time is defining at Bowmore® and we tirelessly harness the power of time to shape our whiskies. Our distillery’s adherence to traditional production methods helps to shape the character of our fruity and smoky single malts. Today, we are amongst one of a few distilleries which still produces its own floor malted barley, hand-turned by a traditional wooden malt shovel and hand drawn machinery.  Water for the whiskies is specially drawn from the Laggan River, with its rich peaty overtones – the same Islay peat that fires the malt-drying kiln.

Bowmore® Distillery’s proximity to the sea is also vital in determining the final character of its spirit and gives a hint of sea air to the character. The legendary Bowmore® No. 1 Vaults is where most of the whiskies spend their long lives resting quietly in the cool, dark, damp cellars below sea level, oblivious to the waves thrashing the vault’s sea-facing wall.

Matured in oak casks, previously used for bourbon, sherry, or claret, over time developing rich and mellow flavours until the expertise of our whisky makers deems them ready for bottling.  It is this combination of peat, barley, sea breeze, water, wood, people, and tradition that makes Bowmore the exceptional single malt it is today.

Time is marked on each and every bottle of Bowmore, proudly and boldly as a marker of where and when each one’s journey began.  This is our story of time. This is Bowmore; the Art of Time since 1779.

The Perfect Fifth Introduces Oran Blended Scotch Whisky – Scotch Whisky News

The Perfect Fifth Introduces Oran Blended Scotch Whisky

Jim Murray, Famed Whisky Critic, Created Both Blends

NEW YORK (Nov. 16, 2023) – The Perfect Fifth, an American independent Scotch Whisky bottler known for its rare, ultra-premium single cask Scotch Whiskies, is introducing a new line, Oran, a blended Scotch Whisky created by whisky expert Jim Murray, author of “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.”   Murray has long served as a behind-the-scenes blender for many distilleries world-wide, but his partnership with The Perfect Fifth is his first public foray into an official blending role with a company, allowing his 40 years of sensory experience as a whisky taster, blender, and evaluator to shine in his new position.

Murray designed Oran to be an “old school” blend recognizable to whisky lovers of the heyday of blended whisky some 100 years ago, Oran’s grain and malt components are created separately but ultimately combined as the perfect complement to one another.  Oran, which means “song” in Gaelic, is a harmonious blend of the finest grains and single malts, unveiling layers of flavor much like the musical layers in a melody.

“There is a temptation to disregard blended Scotch in this time of single malt, yet the blend of grain whisky and malt is a creation which offers myriad possibilities,” said Murray.  “The objective in the creation of Oran is to offer delicate complexity and finely tuned balance. I believe we have achieved that in the first two releases, and we look forward to creating additional bends in the future which showcase the same attributes.”

The first two releases, Blend No. 1 and Blend No. 2, are both 50-50-50 blends, 50 percent single malt Scotch Whisky, 50 percent single grain Scotch Whisky, and 50 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). Both blends are limited releases, containing only 465 bottles each.

A total of 11 different casks were used to make both blends. Some of the casks were split between both blends but with differing ratios. Blend No. 1 is composed exclusively of Ex-Bourbon casks.  Tasting notes for Blend No. 1 describe it as having a nose with the lightest of smokiness heralding the fruitier elements.  The taste has a beautiful mouth feel in which the malt and grains form juicy layers through which the spices easily permeate. The finish has a distinct chocolatey feel.

Blend No. 2 distinguishes itself with the addition of a sherried cask component.  It is described as having a sweet grassy and lush nose, followed by a salivating delivery with beautiful honeydew melon sweetness, giving the malt a pleasant softness.  The finish is described as being long and linear, with tingling spice.

“Throughout my travels to Scotland, I’ve always been touched by its beauty.  Not only the physical beauty in the landscapes but also the beauty in the craftsmanship of its whiskies and the flavor of its single malts,” said Karl Schoen, founder and chief executive officer, The Perfect Fifth.  “Oran is an extension of those experiences, meant to blend together the appreciation for the rugged beauty of the land with the homage to its whisky makers, united in perfect harmony.”

Oran Blend No. 1 and Blend No. 2 are available in limited quantities at retailers in New York, New Jersey and California. It is also available online at www.theperfectfifth.com.  Suggested retail pricing is $189 per 700 mL.

About The Perfect Fifth

The Perfect Fifth was created in 2019 by Karl Schoen, who was inspired by watching his family members toast milestones with Scotch Whisky as he grew up.  As Karl began his own exploration into the world of Scotch Whisky, he enjoyed finding stellar single cask bottlings and sharing them with others.  This led to the formation of The Perfect Fifth, where Karl and his brother Ben source the best quality whisky from all over Scotland.  Together they travel throughout Scotland, sampling cask after cask until they find those worthy to be selected for The Perfect Fifth. Few casks make the cut, which is why The Perfect Fifth releases are limited editions.  Like the musical interval, The Perfect Fifth releases consist of multiple layers, each one broad and deep, which when combined, make a beautiful assembly meant to be shared with family and friends.

Scotch Malt Whisky Society ‘27.114 – A very special release’ – Scotch Whisky News

With December on the horizon, we’re getting into the seasonal spirit by sharing some ultra-rare gems – and we have one truly exceptional bottling that is sure to surprise and delight the senses.

Say a BIG festive hello to our new Vaults Collection Cask 27.114: Sticky Toffee Axle Grease Pudding. From Distillery 27, casks like this simply don’t come along very often and we’re delighted to be able to share it with our Society members.

This one came from within the ranks of our own membership – someone who bought it from this Campbeltown distillery in the 1990s and who subsequently approached the Spirits Team to see if we might be interested. We certainly were!

STICKY TOFFEE AXLE GREASE PUDDING

Cask No. 27.114

Step into our steam-powered kitchen, where swirling funnel smoke meets grease-coated cogs and buckets of petrol marinade. With sizzle and sizzle, beef cheeks simmer in a sweet bramble and sherry jus, while parsnips get a glaze of heather honey and shisha tobacco.

And now, the pièce de résistance: a whisky that has spent a remarkable 25 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead. It then ventured into a first-fill Spanish oak Pedro Ximénez hogshead for its final 5 year, infusing it with a depth and complexity that’ll leave you speechless.

28-Year-Old Highland Single Malt for Under $150 – K&L California Single Malt News

Unheard-Of Pricing on a Fully Mature Highland Gem
Glen Oak 28 Year Old Single Malt Scotch (750ml)
(Previously $300)
($149.99)

“It feels like whisky from a bygone era, and in many ways it is.”
— Andrew Whiteley, K&L Spirits Buyer

Let’s start with the obvious—we almost never see a 28-year-old whisky from one of the Highland’s most famous names at anywhere near this price. While the bottler can’t disclose the source of this beautifully mature dram, we can tell you that it’s among the most recognized and revered names in Highland whisky. When it first came along a few years ago, it was already an impressive bargain at the original $300 SRP, but now at 50% off and just $150, it’s in the running for the best collectible Scotch buy of the holidays.

Glen Oak 28 Year Old Single Malt Scotch (750ml) (Previously $300) ($149.99)

K&L Notes: This well-aged single malt comes to us under a discontinued independent label, but it was sourced from a blue-chip Highland distillery many years ago. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to explicitly share the producer’s name here, but you might rightly deduce that any distillery with enough old juice to sell at this kind of price is one of the big boys. One walk through this Scottish valley and you’ll definitely want mo’e of it at this price. Comparable bottlings from the distillery, when they declare a particular vintage bottling as Grand, regularly approach four figures and are rarely this old. This bottle, at a very easy drinking 40% ABV, is rich and luxurious in the mouth. Tons of caramelized stone fruits and sweet baking spices on the nose and palate. The finish is clean and inviting of another sip. It’s rare to see a Scottish single malt priced like a similarly aged Armagnac, but that’s exactly what we have here.

Andrew Whiteley | K&L Spirits Buyer | Review Date: November 16, 2023

This whisky evokes a deep memory as a young man, sharing a dram with my grandfather. Not that this is what we were drinking, mind you, but it just feels old-school. Such rich malt flavors that are at the same time super soft and approachable. It’s one of those rare personal experiences that reminds me of falling in love with Scotch for the first time. It feels like whisky from a bygone era, and in many ways it is. There surely isn’t much well-aged, blue-chip distillery stock floating around the market these days without an astronomical price tag. Let’s have a go: The nose has a big display of honey-drizzled, freshly cut stone fruits, perhaps on a bed of toasted granola and cream. Oxidized cinnamon and nutmeg add intrigue. Baked bread and honeydew melon come through with time in the glass. It rolls around the palate, supple and thick. Sweet and malty are the predominant taste notes. There is a ton of vanilla as well, and just enough barrel tannin to provide something to chew on. While it isn’t a bomb of any kind or a big bruiser, high-ABV, crazy single cask, this is such a delightful and good-natured Scotch that I have to tip my hat and pour one out for Granddad with a smile.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Arran 9YO Single Cask – Island Scotch Whisky News

Arran 9YO Single Cask

https://youtu.be/PIQFDmflUSE

There were meant to be three videos, but between an annoying sponsored advert and a corrupted video file, only two remain. This is a single cask Arran from the Lochranza Distillery, bottled by the Fisherman’s Retreat in Ramsbottom. A bar with a reputation for a really cool whisky selection, a large majority of which are bottled by them, for them. Matured in a Yalumba wine cask, it is heady with rich red fruit flavours, but is still Arran at it’s core.

Lost Lantern Announces Winter Whiskey Wednesday 2023 Collection – American Whiskey News

Lost Lantern Announces 2023 Winter Whiskey Wednesday Drop

Four Whiskies That Will Warm Up the Coldest Time of the Year

VERGENNES, Vt. (November 13, 2023) — On Wednesday, November 29th, the award winning independent bottler, Lost Lantern, will celebrate the many ways whiskey can be enjoyed during the winter with its annual Winter Whiskey Wednesday drop. Created specifically to be enjoyed during the coldest season of the year, these new bottlings are sure to evoke thoughts of crackling fireplaces, home-baked holiday treats, and the dreams of summer that keep us warm on the darkest and coldest days of winter.

“In Vermont, winter’s embrace can be especially long and cold,” remarked Nora Ganley-Roper, Lost Lantern Co-Founder. “We hope the whiskies in this collection, designed specifically for the season, will bring some extra warmth and joy to whiskey lovers during the chilly months ahead.”

Lost Lantern’s last release of 2023 includes four whiskies — two new additions to both the Blend Series and the Single Distillery Series — from a total of seven distillery partners: Cedar Ridge (IA), McCarthy’s (OR), Boulder Spirits (CO), Whiskey Del Bac (AZ), Santa Fe Spirits (NM), St. George Spirits (CA), and Kings County Distillery (NY), a new Lost Lantern partner.

The Winter Whiskey Wednesday collection will be available for purchase at the new Lost Lantern Tasting Room in Vergennes, VT and online at LostLanternWhiskey.com and Seelbachs.com beginning November 29th. It will also be available at select retailers in New York and California.

  • Lost Lantern Shadow (500 bottles): SRP $100
  • Lost Lantern Flame (400 bottles): SRP $100
  • Lost Lantern Mountain Meadow St. George Spirits Single Malt (600 bottles): SRP $150
  • Lost Lantern Brooklyn Bakery Kings County Distillery New York Straight Bourbon (396 bottles): SRP $100

All offerings are non-chill-filtered, have natural coloring, and feature transparent labeling highlighting the source distilleries.

Lost Lantern Co-Founder Adam Polonski said, “We are especially excited about the whiskies in our new collection because they were created purposely to warm up winter. Two are blends of smoked American single malts — one peated (Shadow), one mesquite (Flame) — and are perfect for long, cold winter nights, especially those in front of a fireplace or bonfire. Winter is also our favorite season for baking, and Brooklyn Bakery, our first release from the acclaimed Kings County Distillery, is an ideal pairing for wintry confections. Winter also has us thinking about warmer days ahead, and our latest collaboration with St. George Spirits is truly the essence of California sunshine. After a cold, gray day, this reminds us that sunny days are always around the corner.”

LOST LANTERN WINTER 2023 COLLECTION

Lost Lantern Shadow

Distilled by Boulder Spirits (CO), Cedar Ridge (IA), McCarthy’s (OR)

(500 Btls | 126.3 Proof) SRP: $100

Smoked whiskies take many forms. Lost Lantern Shadow is a blend of peated American single malts that together evoke the shadowy depths of whiskey enjoyment. It includes peated single malts from Iowa, Colorado, and Oregon. The result is a blend of rich oak flavor, deep smoke, with notes of roasted blackberries and plums.

Lost Lantern Flame

Distilled by Santa Fe Spirits (NM), Whiskey Del Bac (AZ)

(400 Btls | 113.9 Proof) SRP: $100

This is a blend of smoked American whiskies that together evoke brightness and warmth. Lost Lantern Flame brings together mesquite-smoked single malts from Whiskey Del Bac in Arizona and Santa Fe Spirits in New Mexico to create a warm, bright, and smoky whiskey. A brilliant flame with notes of charred oranges, chili chocolate, and smoked meats.

Lost Lantern Mountain Meadow St. George Spirits Single Malt

(600 Bottles | 107 Proof): SRP $150

St. George Spirits, the oldest craft distillery in the U.S., creates exceptional spirits with a true sense of artistry. Lost Lantern worked closely with the St. George team to create a whiskey that embodies the warmth, bounty, and freshness of California. This is a blend of four truly unique casks. Incredibly fresh and piney, it has hints of Meyer lemon zest, white pepper, lemon verbena, cinnamon sticks, and jasmine tea. Mountain Meadow has a warm and welcoming mouthfeel and a long, gentle finish.

Lost Lantern Brooklyn Bakery Kings County Distillery New York Straight Bourbon Whiskey

(396 bottles | 133 Proof): SRP $100

Kings County Distillery, the oldest distillery in New York City, creates some of the country’s most acclaimed and sought-after whiskies using New York-grown grains. Lost Lantern Brooklyn Bakery is a marriage of eight different barrels of 5- and 6-year-old Kings County bourbons that were blended to create a powerful, sweet, and spicy straight bourbon. It has rich dark chocolate notes, with hints of pecan pie, graham cracker, blackberry cobbler, and cherry tart – reminiscent of a Brooklyn bakery on a cold winter day.
