Just in time for Ardbeg Day – celebrated annually on the last Saturday of Fèis Ìle – the iconic Islay distillery has launched an experimental limited-edition whisky: Ardbeg Heavy Vapours. For the first time ever, Ardbeg whisky has been distilled without a purifier, therefore disrupting the distillery’s trademark balance between pungent peat and floral fruitiness.

Led by Dr Bill Lumsden, this experiment has unleashed the heaviest vapours by allowing them to rise up the still before being captured and bottled at 46% ABV. The result is a full-blown dram with untameable smokiness and hints of eucalyptus, cardamom and dark chocolate.
