Knob Creek “Single Barrel Select” K&L Exclusive Barrel #14464 – American Whiskey News

Knob Creek “Single Barrel Select” K&L Exclusive Barrel #14464 (Distilled 10/10/12, Warehouse 1, Floor 6, Rick 25) Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

(750ml) $59.99 View

This exceptional barrel of Knob was selected after a multi-year hiatus on travel to Kentucky. Picked out by the K&L Spirits Buying Team in early 2022, it was distilled on October the 11th, 2012 and dumped on April 5th, 2022. This gorgeous little bourbon offers more depth and complexity than many out there for twice the price. Aged in the excellent warehouse 1 on the 6th floor it saw nearly 10 summers of hot Kentucky sun. Expect a deep rich sweetness coupled with a powerful barrel spice and warming, toasted vanilla. Very few producers are consistently offering such high quality bourbon for your dollar and Jim Beam’s flagship single barrel program has started to gain a real following with bourbon lovers who value character and complexity over scarcity.

More sustainable and more premium and always, always with our consumers and customers at the heart of our plans.”

Millar, a native of Scotland, will be relocating to the United Kingdom for the role. He will spend the majority of his time directly in Scotland to be close to Beam Suntory’s brand heritage and build relationships with the wider whisky community and trade.

Millar will report to Spence.

Infrequent Flyers Batch #10 at The Whisky Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

Infrequent Flyers Batch #10

Allt-a-Bhainne 16 Year Old

2005 vintage Pedro Ximenez sherry cask #805181 at 62.3% yielding 634 bottles.

Notes from Alistair Walker:

“Nose Oooft, what a nose! Complex like calculus, with a battle raging between sweet and savoury! Burnt toffee, BBQ sauce, balsamic glaze, chocolate coated chorizo balls (I swear I had these at a wedding in Spain).

Taste Viscous, rich and full-bodied. Dark chocolate and fudge to the fore, alongside a curious but most welcome sweet balsamic presence. Quite a spicy dram; cracked black pepper and ground cinnamon are not shy here. Honourable mentions too for liquified brown sugar, peanut butter and cocoa powder, which all contribute. There’s a lot going on here. Allt-a-Bhainne or Altered Beast!?”

Buy – Allt-a-Bhainne 16 – £105.05 / $105* / €103*

Compass Box Whisky Company “The results are in…” – Scotch Whisky News

We asked. You voted!

We recently invited you to have your say on a future limited edition – offering a choice of three potential peated whiskies to go into 225-litre Marsala barriques for an experimental finishing.

And the results are in…

The winner, as voted for by you, is malt whisky from the Laphroaig Distillery.

We’d like to say thank you to everyone that took part. We’re excited to share that the casks were filled earlier this month (July 2022). Now, it’s over to our Whiskymakers to judge when the whisky has reached its next peaty peak. We’ll keep you posted with an update before the end of the year so stay tuned!

About the winning whisky…

Distilled at the Laphroaig Distillery in 2005, and originally filled into recharred hogsheads, this potent single malt offers seaweedy and herbal flavours, with a bitter smokiness. We have already deployed other casks from this parcel in No Name, No. 3 and Flaming Heart 2022 (more on that release coming soon!). We see its savoury peatiness nestling into the ripe red fruit notes of the Marsala casks very nicely for a delicious balancing of contrasts. As for the finished result? We are just as excited to find out as you are…

If you want to know more about our whiskies, please get in touch: hello@compassboxwhisky.com

Wolfcraig Update “Richard Paterson OBE” – Scotch Whisky News

Queen’s Honours List 2022

The Wolfcraig team wants to wish our Master Blender and friend, Richard Paterson,
a huge congratulations on receiving an OBE for his services to the Scotch Whisky industry.

Nicknamed, “The Nose”, as a result of his unrivaled talent for assessing whisky, it is no surprise that he has championed the title of Master Blender at Whyte & Mackay for over half a century.

On the day of the medal ceremony at Holyrood, he remarked that he hoped his Father, who was also a Master Blender, was looking down on him and is proud of what he has achieved.

This recognition and honour is beyond deserved to one of the greatest ambassadors of the Scotch Whisky industry today.

Slainte mhath, Richard Paterson OBE (now that has a nice ring to it!)
