Yeun Elez Single Cask ex-Pineau des Charentes – Peated Single Malt Breton Whisky

The distillery is proud to announce at the same time a limited edition of its peated whisky, Yeun Elez.

After the successful launch of this new peated whisky in 2020, the distillery unveils a new side of its work with peat. For experimental purposes, the Yeun Elez peated new make has been aged in a wide variety of casks, very different to one another. With this limited edition, the distillery presents the result of an unusual maturation in ex-Pineau des Charentes casks.

Acquired from the Cognac house Rémi Landier, this cask has brought to the new make an incomparable sweetness and pastry notes that surround the smoke of the distillate. Bottled at 58.7% cask strenght, intense, full-bodied and unique, it evolves towards wood fire. Limited to 666 bottles…

Discover Lost Lantern’s Fall 2022 Single Cask Collection

WEYBRIDGE, Vt., September 8, 2022—Lost Lantern, an independent bottler of American whiskey, is pleased to announce their Fall 2022 collection, featuring five limited edition single casks from Boulder Spirits in Colorado, Cedar Ridge Distillery in Iowa, Copperworks Distilling in Washington, and Breuckelen Distilling in New York.

Co-Founders Nora Ganley-Roper and Adam Polonski chose to focus on a theme of “discovery” when they selected the whiskies to be released in the Fall 2022 Collection. “All the single casks in this collection come from distilleries that are locally or regionally beloved and very highly regarded, but not that widely available outside of their home markets. With this Collection, we want to help whiskey drinkers discover some really unique whiskies from distilleries they may have heard of, but not been able to actually get their hands on until now,” said Adam.

Beginning September 21st, Lost Lantern’s Fall 2022 single cask collection will be available for sale on LostLanternWhiskey.com, Seelbachs.com, and at select retailers in California and Alberta, Canada. As always, all offerings are released with full transparency, bottled at cask strength, are non-chill-filtered and have natural color.

  • Boulder Spirits Peated Colorado Single Malt Whiskey (164 btls): SRP, $130
  • Cedar Ridge Iowa 5-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey (100 btls): SRP, $100
  • Cedar Ridge Iowa 6-Year-Old Straight Malted Rye Whiskey (211 btls): SRP, $90
  • Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt (Single Farm, Single Variety) (225 btls): SRP, $100
  • Breuckelen Distilling 8-Year-Old New York Malted Wheat Whiskey (165 btls): SRP, $120

Single casks are an essential piece of the Lost Lantern model, inspired by the long tradition of independent bottlers in Scotland. Since its debut in October 2020, Lost Lantern has released 36 one-of-a-kind single casks from 18 of the finest distilleries in the United States: Santa Fe Spirits (NM), Cedar Ridge (IA), New York Distilling Company (NY), Ironroot Republic (TX), Whiskey Del Bac (AZ), Balcones (TX), Watershed (OH), Boulder Spirits (CO), Spirit Works (CA), St. George Spirits (CA), McCarthy’s (OR), Smooth Ambler (WV), Starlight (IN), Westward (OR), Frey Ranch Distillery (NV), Dad’s Hat (PA), Copperworks Distilling (WA), and Breuckelen Distilling (NY).

ABOUT LOST LANTERN’S FALL 2022 SINGLE CASK COLLECTION

Lost Lantern’s single casks show that the best whiskey reflects where it’s made, how it’s made, and who made it, and demonstrate that compelling whiskey comes from across the United States.

2022 Single Cask #12: Boulder Spirits Peated Colorado Single Malt Whiskey

(164 btls | 148.94 Proof): SRP, $130

Boulder Spirits was founded by Scotsman Alastair Brogan, who has brought Scottish whisky making traditions to the Rockies. Made from 100% peated Scottish barley, this whiskey was aged for 5 years in new oak. It’s heavily peated and very smoky, with flavors of smoked figs, bacon-wrapped dates, bitter orange marmalade, and fresh-baked brownies. *Note: Boulder’s high altitude tends to result in high-proof spirits. Single Cask #12 was bottled at its natural cask strength of 148.94 proof.

2022 Single Cask #13: Cedar Ridge Iowa 5-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey

(100 btls | 123.08 Proof): SRP, $100

It’s no surprise that Cedar Ridge distillery, located in the heart of the corn belt in Iowa, makes great bourbon. The dramatic temperature swings of the Great Plains help create whiskies with a soft, clean, yet spicy character. This is Lost Lantern’s second bourbon from the family-owned distillery. Made from 74% corn, 14% rye, and 12% malted barley, this straight bourbon whiskey was aged for 5 years, giving it great depth and complexity. It has white flowers and vanilla on the nose, a complex palate with white chocolate and baking spice, and a very long finish.

2022 Single Cask #14: Cedar Ridge Iowa 6-Year-Old Straight Malted Rye Whiskey

(211 btls | 120.3 Proof): SRP, $90

Cedar Ridge is one of the few distilleries to regularly distill malted rye whiskey, which is made with germinated rye grain. This 6-year-old single cask, made with 51% malted rye, 34% rye, 12% corn, and 3% malted barley, shows why the style is worth your attention. It has a citrusy nose, with lemon, custard, and a rich depth on the palate. The malted rye grain adds a complex, biscuity and toasty flavor and a great mouthfeel.

2022 Single Cask #15: Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt (Single Farm, Single Variety)

(225 btls | 116.9 Proof): SRP, $100

Founded by brewers, Copperworks brings craft beer’s precision and commitment to local ingredients to distilling. The Seattle distillery works closely with local farms to source its grain, leading to whiskies that truly reflect the climate of the Pacific Northwest. This single malt was made from a single variety of barley called Baronesse, grown on a single farm, the family-owned Joseph’s Grainery in Colfax, WA. Aged for 3 years in a new oak cask, it has vanilla and white pepper on the nose and lavender, oak and saltwater taffy on the palate.

2022 Single Cask #16: Breuckelen Distilling 8-Year-Old New York Malted Wheat Whiskey

(165 btls | 138.9 Proof): SRP, $120

Founded in 2010 in Brooklyn, Breuckelen Distilling has been making unique and delicious whiskies that push the boundaries of traditional whiskey styles since its inception. Wheat whiskies are generally known for being gentle and light. Not this one. Made with 100% malted red wheat, this eight-year-old single cask has a deep, rich, and powerful flavor but a soft texture, with notes of rich oak, chocolate banana bread, cranberry teacake, and ginger spice. This is the oldest single cask Lost Lantern has released to date.

Ultramarine: A whisky inspired by lost flavours – Compass Box Whisky News

TIME CAPSULES ON WHISKY MAKING

Have you ever seen an iconic photo from the past, reimagined in colour? It instantly becomes more powerful. A great moment made even greater by contemporary processes.

Our newest limited edition is a great whisky from the past, made even greater.

Introducing Ultramarine – a time capsule of lost flavours, remade for the modern whisky lover.

INSPIRED BY FORGOTTEN FLAVOURS

Ultramarine is the first release from The Extinct Blends Quartet – a series that asks how four historic blends of Scotch can be taken further than before.

By re-examining these iconic liquids through the lens of modern whiskymaking, and amplifying their finer details, we’ve brought new life to some prized flavours of the past.

The Sherry and pipe tobacco notes of Ultramarine were inspired by a deluxe blended Scotch that emerged in the late 1980s. The earliest bottlings of this iconic dram had a compelling antique quality, made with characterful stocks of malt and grain.

A MIX OF RARE COMPONENTS

A whole world of possibility can be found by combining aged malt and grain whiskies. Ultramarine is an invitation to explore this world.

On the nose, aromas of toffee and antique polished oak sit atop layers of complex peatiness. On the palate, notes of raisin and roasted pecan give way to deep flavours of coastal smoke, and a mature Sherry character.

Ultramarine’s luxurious flavour profile comes from its uncommon recipe components, which include compelling mature malts from the Caol Ila and Glendullan distilleries, aged grains from the Cameronbridge and Girvan distilleries, and a medley of exceptionally rare pre-blended parcels.

AN ETHEREAL EXPERIENCE OF FLAVOUR

Coming from the Latin term ultramarinus, meaning ‘beyond the sea’, Ultramarine shares its name with a rare pigment once more precious than gold.

Like the deep and vivid blue of Ultramarine, this first bottle from our Extinct Blends Quartet is impressively textural – an otherworldly tasting experience that’s as enchanting sipped while overlooking the cliffs of Scotland as it is in a glass by the calm waters of California.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Tokie Blended Whisky, 40% – Japanese Whisky News

https://youtu.be/aEzxNI4PHis

Blended whisky, for whatever reason, always seems to sit in a predisposed spot in some drinkers minds. We can put this down to years of marketing, or snobbish attitudes that still remain in whisky. The latter is dying out though, so that’s a plus.

Toki was introduced to the whisky market at an interesting and high demand point in the current world of Japanese whisky. Insane demand and the seemingly slow drip of Japanese whisky, even as a concept, is still reaching people. As a result, people want the best, the most awarded and what experts recommend. But alot of Suntory and Nikka’s most lauded products are now obselete for the everyday enjoyer of whisky.

Enter Toki. A combination of Chita, Hakushu and a few other products in the Suntory line, the idea of the style is to be light, fresh and very easy to drink. Can confirm that it hits these points rather well, and it’s affordable. Which isn’t a word that is associated with Japanese whisky too much these days.

Think of this product as a perfectly fine neat spirit, not expensive at all, but does the job well in the Japanese style. But it’s a very good quality mixer that has a huge versatility, but you can’t go wrong with a classic highball of this and gingerale, little slice of apple or lime as a garnish. Perfect.

It’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t blow apart yout wallet if you want a Japanese whisky that hits all the trademark style points.
