The Old Pulteney 12 Year Old, 17 Year Yld and 21 Year Old form the core range supported by Clipper and Navigator in the non-aged bottling series.

The GlenDronach Distillery Announces Over £30m Investment to Meet Global Demand – Scotch Whisky News

The GlenDronach Distillery Announces Over £30m Investment to Meet Global Demand

Aberdeenshire, Scotland – Brown‑Forman has announced over £30m investment in The GlenDronach Distillery to significantly increase production facilities at its homeplace in the Valley of Forgue in Aberdeenshire. Global demand for The GlenDronach has tripled since 2016* as whisky connoisseurs around the world discover the distillery’s rich sherry cask matured Single Malts. The investment will steward long-term future growth for The GlenDronach.

This is the second phase of investment by Brown‑Forman in the historic distillery after renovations of The GlenDronach Visitors’ Centre in 2020, which created an enhanced visitor experience with a new tasting room, whisky bar, lounge, and retail space.

Proposed plans at the home of the richly sherried Highland Single Malt will build on centuries of whisky making heritage, dating back almost two-hundred years to the distillery’s establishment by James Allardice in 1826.

As part of the development programme, significant attention will be paid to preserve the proudly historic site and craft of fine whisky-making on the grounds of the former Boynsmill Estate, including the restoration of the former maltings building as a working production area. All existing buildings and the iconic courtyard will remain, retaining the rich heritage and traditional craft of whisky making at The Glendronach for future generations.

Briggs of Burton will serve as the principal contractor, along with Blyth & Blyth as civil architects. The three year phased project will prepare the distillery to more than double capacity and will improve operational energy efficiencies.

Laura Tolmie, Distillery Manager, said: ”As a small, traditional Scottish distillery, we’re very proud to be custodians of such a revered Single Malt at The GlenDronach. I’m delighted that this significant investment in the long-term future of the distillery is secured, preserving our rich heritage whilst ensuring we can meet the increasing demand for The GlenDronach at home and around the world .”

About The GlenDronach Distillery:

Nestled in the valley of Forgue, deep in the East Highland hills, is The GlenDronach, one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The GlenDronach is of true Highland style: a complex and full-bodied spirit, perfect for slow maturation in Spanish sherry oak. At The GlenDronach Distillery, we have carried forth the tradition of our founder James Allardice since 1826, maturing our Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky in the finest Spanish Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía in Spain.

Our richly-sherried Highland Single Malts are recognised for their deep colour and complex flavour profiles, which range from the sweet fruity flavours of the Pedro Ximénez casks we select, to the dry and nutty notes of our Oloroso casks.

Kavalan Sherry-Aged Single Cask at Nearly 60% Off – Taiwanese Whisky News

Over 50% Off a Collector’s Dream Single Cask, For a Limited Time
Kavalan “Solist” Amontillado Sherry Cask Strength 56.3% ABV Single Barrel Taiwanese Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
(Previously $600) ($249.99)

“I hope these jaw-dropping releases become available to us regularly at this pricing. That unfortunately is a pipe dream, so we’ll just have to enjoy it while it lasts.”
— David Othenin-Girard, K&L Spirits Buyer

At the cornerstone of this coveted whiskey line, the sherry-aged casks present the quintessential Kavalan poise and grace that has won this iconic distillery its countless accolades and awards over the years, including the 2021 Distillery of the Year at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, as well as a near-maniacal following among the most committed collectors. One of two spectacular amontillado-aged single casks recently sourced at utterly mind-boggling pricing, this 56.3% ABV barrel is described by our own David Othenin-Girard as “wildly complex” with an approachability that lends itself to a very broad audience of aficionados. The overtly opulent profile “more than delivers the goods in way that distinguishes it from the other two casks,” as David notes. Collectible whiskies like this very rarely come up at such discounted pricing, so any savvy collector looking to maximize their purchasing power should beat a quick path and secure their bottles today.

Kavalan “Solist” Amontillado Sherry Cask Strength 56.3% ABV Single Barrel Taiwanese Single Malt Whisky (750ml) (Previously $600) ($249.99)

David Othenin-Girard | K&L Spirits Buyer | Review Date: August 17, 2022

It’s pretty exciting tasting these Kavalans and doubly so getting to compare similar casks. The two amontillados we have were both distilled in 2010 and bottled at around eight years old in April of 2008. This barrel is slightly lower proof, and the character is distinct from its sister cask. The same burnished color, though. The nose is a big fruit bomb with lots of stewed stone fruit and raisined characteristics—dried plum, baked peaches, molasses syrup, confectionary candies, almond cookies, and sweet tea. On first glance, this barrel is closest to the oloroso stuff but with something extra—a sur-age character that’s unique to amontillado. Big fruity nose translates to a much less spicy palate, with exceptional sweetness and a seriously creamy character. This is likely the most approachable of three Kavalans but by no means a slouch. It’s wildly complex even without the extra savory character of the higher-proof cask. Tough call on which is better, but this is the one I’d recommend if Kavalan has ever felt a little over the top on the tannins for you, as it’s the softest expression of the three barrels we have. It more than delivers the goods in way that distinguishes it from the other two casks.

*UPCOMING RELEASE* Two French Oak ex-Tawny Single Cask Whiskies – Tasmanian Whisky News

Two French Oak ex-Tawny Single Casks
TD0404 & TD0311

Tomorrow we release two first-fill French oak ex-Tawny single casks, TD0404 and TD0311. Both received exceptional scores for taste, texture and balance from the Sullivans Cove tasting panel, both are the same oak and pre-fill, yet they provide two distinctly different drinking experiences. These two casks display the individuality that we love about single cask whisky, and we can’t wait for you to try them.

French Oak ex-Tawny TD0404

Black Forest gateau meets fresh bursts of mandarin, interlaced with creme caramel, cinnamon baked green apples and sticky date sauce. The rich cask influence brings a depth to be reckoned with, expertly balanced by Sullivans Cove’s bright fruit and mineral spirit character.  It’s not often we see this side of Sullivans Cove, and it is exciting to taste the wide breadth of flavour that our spirit can offer. TD0404 holds firework displays of flavour within a perfectly structured whisky. This is a barrel we will never forget.

Matured for 8 years and 9 months in a first-fill 200L ex-Tawny, French oak cask. Yielding 318 bottles of Sullivans Cove single cask whisky.

French Oak ex-Tawny TD0311

Honey-laced macadamia oil and butterscotch candies rest below a world of apothecary aromas. Be prepared for this to stay on your palate long after the last sip. Apricots, peaches and salted butterscotch from the spirit lace into sticky dates, hazelnuts and damson plums from the Tawny, met by ancient spices and dark chocolate notes from the French oak cask. A trifecta of flavour. Matured for 13 years and 8 months in a first-fill 225L ex-Tawny, French oak cask. Yielding just 276 bottles of Sullivans Cove single cask whisky.
