The Weekly Harris Journal: Tales From The Cèilidh House – Scotch Whisky News

The Hearach single malt whisky will be our first historic dram. Every drop is being made, matured, and eventual bottled here in Harris. We’re filling a variety of high quality casks and hand-pick all our first fill ex-bourbon barrels from just three distillers, in an expensive but worthwhile approach.

The first of these cask sources is Buffalo Trace, a distillery in the city of Frankfort, Kentucky and the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the United States. The name “Buffalo Trace” refers to an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the 260-mile long Kentucky River which winds through Franklin County.

Ex-Bourbon casks have long played a role in the story of whisky maturation helping to bring a little vanilla sweetness and rich spice to the proceedings. We’ll share more about our cask choices soon, meantime if you’d like to learn more about our whisky then please click the button below.

LEARN ABOUT OUR WHISKY

In our on-site cask warehouse we have hundreds of private casks stored, and a wall made of oak staves bearing the names of thousands of people. This is a special place, holding as it does the investment, efforts, and enthusiasm of men and women across there world who have placed their faith in our endeavour. They’ve each chosen to support our work from the earliest days and with their help we’re bringing a historic single malt into being. We look forward to learning your individual stories and sharing them over a dram very soon.

“Ceud mìle fàilte.”
