BUNNAHABHAIN DISTILLERY 27 Year Old 1989 Hunter Laing Old & Rare at The Whisky Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

BUNNAHABHAIN DISTILLERY

27 Year Old 1989 Old & Rare

£365.20

Bunnahabhain 27 Year Old 1989 vintage Islay single malt Scotch whisky. Single cask refill hogshead bottled March 2017 by Hunter Laing and Co. for the Old & Rare Platinum collection. 198 bottles. A beautifully colour whisky with a delicious nose of home baking and creamy caramel followed by a delicate floral note and ahint of seaweed. On the palate it is smooth and creamy with vanilla the primary taste, then bananas and pears adding fruitiness and body. Ths leads to a late salty note at the end, leaving a dry, long lasting finish.

Bunnahabhain Distillery was established in 1881 on the north eastern tip of the Isle of Islay by the shore of Bunnahabhain Bay and overlooking the Sound of Islay. All the building materials were transported by puffer and unloaded at the distillery pier. Now tucked away at the end of the single track ‘main’ road with spectacular scenery all the way. Whisky Wednesday WHISKY OF THE YEAR!  – Scotch Whisky News

https://youtu.be/mvNcmm4SdpE

WHISKY OF THE YEAR!

Easily the most difficult decision I’ve had to make in whisky for a LONG time.

Kilkerran Heavily Peated #4 and Laphroaig 10YO Sherry…who gets the title?

The first time I tried that Kilkerran, after having split a bottle with my friend, Mike, in London. I didn’t try it for ages, and then it came to filming WW and trying the whiskies the night before. Blown away. The complexity of this young stock is just mind blowing. Yet again, Kilkerran can do no wrong. Im yet to try anything older than their 12YO, or their CS limited releases, but this range has my full attention for the future.

Laphroaig. You can already smell and taste it, right? This sherry cask release ticked every box that I wanted it to. The last few Laphroaig releases had sold out or I had no huge interest in them, minus the Cask Strength releaes. But I’ve grown bored with sherry for many different reasons. My personal view for people who adore the stuff is to just drink more sherry, please! But when it’s incorporated with heavily peated whisky (see our Bowmore 18 Feis Ile video as well), it just works, and it’s the only area I’m really paying attention to with sherry anymore.

The depth of richness within this whisky from sweet butterscotch, tobacco, dry, mineral driven peat, those softer TCP notes. Just incredible and for the price it’s at, with the Lagavulin price increases coming, a worthy, and in my view, a Lagavulin 16 beater. A thunder driven show case of spanish soaked smoke. They smashed it.

Back filming @Thewhiskyshop with @ed – we’re back for 2022!

External Recognition for Diageo’s Sustainability Credentials – Scotch Whisky News

External recognition for Diageo’s sustainability credentials

At Diageo, we’re committed to being the most trusted consumer company in the world, which is central to our Performance Ambition. To achieve this, we need to be transparent in our reporting and progress on our sustainability commitments. We’re proud that our Society 2030 pledges and actions have been externally recognised and we have placed on the highly respected Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the fourth year in a row.

The DJSI is a prestigious ranking that recognises companies’ performance on different sustainability criteria based on an in-depth analysis of economic, social and environmental performance. The DJSI is considered the gold-mark for measuring corporate sustainability and is the benchmark for investors who are wanting to integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios.

In the DJSI 2021 we scored full marks in the following criteria:

  • Materiality
  • Brand management
  • Strategy for emerging markets
  • Environmental reporting
  • Operational eco-efficiency
  • Water-related risks
  • Social reporting

“In a year where the world has been focused on climate change with COP26, it’s proven incredibly important to distinguish between businesses that are serious about their climate and sustainability pledges, and those that are greenwashing. With our placing on the DJSI for the fourth year in a row, we’re leading the way on climate action in business.”

National Hot Toddy Day “Old Pulteney Whisky Hot Toddy Recipe” – Scotch Whisky News

National Hot Toddy Day

Old Pulteney Hot Toddy Recipe

Ingredients:

▪️ 50ml Old Pulteney 12 Years Old

▪️ 20ml Salty Hot Toddy Syrup*

▪️ 15ml lemon juice

▪️ 100ml black breakfast tea⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

*Salted honey, ginger, lemon zest, pepper corns, black breakfast tea

Method:

To make the syrup, add 100g of honey to a pot and heat it up. Watch for it to bubble away and eventually it’ll start to go dark in colour as the sugars caramelise. While you wait, make a cup of black tea and when the honey is nice and dark, add the tea along with some slices of ginger, lemon peel and a tbsp of peppercorns.

Simmer for about 20 minutes to allow it to infuse and take it off the heat and strain out. When it’s cooling, add in a good pinch of salt to taste. Enjoy!

About Old Pulteney:

Old Pulteney is the only brand whose story, distillery, and whisky are shaped by the sea itself. The unique combination of brisk sea air and meticulous cask selection makes its flavour unlike other single malt Scotch whiskies.

The award-winning core collection, revitalised for the modern market in 2018, includes: 12 Years Old, Huddart, 15 Years Old, 18 Years Old, and 25 Years Old.

As the man behind the town’s 19th Century fishing boom, Sir William Pulteney put northerly Scottish coastal town Wick on the map, but today the Pulteney name is better known for its unique, single malt whisky. Distilled and matured by the sea, the award-winning whisky in our casks is cocooned by salty air swept ashore on Arctic winds.

Since 1826, Pulteney Distillery has navigated changeable seas and conditions, including 25 years of prohibition. Old Pulteney is inseparable from the spirit of the harbour town it calls home which is why it will always be The Maritime Malt.
