The Perfect Fifth Expands Distribution to Europe with Multee – Scotch Whisky News

The Perfect Fifth Expands Distribution to Europe with Multee

MIAMI, Florida — October 2021 – US-based independent bottler The Perfect Fifth, forms a spirited partnership with Munich-based Multee GmbH to bring their range of premium, Scottish single cask whiskies to multiple European markets.

Ahead of the release of their second range of single malt and single grain Scottish whiskies, The Perfect Fifth have signed a distribution deal with German distributors Multee GmbH, who will also provide e-commerce support for the independent bottler in Europe. The Perfect Fifth’s expansion to Europe arrives after the brand’s successful launch in US markets, and particularly strong growth in California and New York. The Perfect Fifth has also signed deals with importers Topalcohzol (Czech Republic), Cava Anthidis (Greece) and Whisky Shop Ukraine to target key markets.

Europe is a fertile market for new premium Scotch whisky brands, such as The Perfect Fifth, as the European Union accounted for £1,256bn (33%) of global exports of Scotch Whisky in 2020, according to data from the Scotch Whisky Association. Individual countries appeared prominently: France topped the table of export markets for Scotch whisky by volume in 2020, and was beaten only by the US by value of exports; Germany was the sixth largest export market for Scotch whisky by value and volume; and Latvia was fifth largest export market by value.

In contrast with larger producers who release their spirits in batches of thousands of bottles, The Perfect Fifth is an independent bottler of single casks of well-matured Scotch whisky, founded by a team of two brothers. The deal with Multee instigates the distribution of two new single malt releases: The Perfect Fifth Aberlour 30 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (RRP €2,000) and The Perfect Fifth Bunnahabhain 28 Year Old Single Malt Whisky (RRP €700), which will initially be available in retailers across Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Czech Republic, Greece and Ukraine. These single malts will also be available for shipping across Europe.

“As we planned our expansion into global markets, including key regions in Asia (Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand), we knew our European venture would be key to our future success. We look forward to introducing our spirits to a region that has such a developed palate for premium single malts, and such a rich history of distilling its own diverse range of high quality spirits,” said The Perfect Fifth CEO, Karl Schoen. “Multee is our perfect partner in Europe thanks to their strong reach in our key markets, deep understanding of the brand, and their clear love and appreciation of Scottish whisky.”

Founded in 2017 by IT specialist and entrepreneur Anders Pettersson, Multee is a family-run consultancy providing e-commerce solutions and services for small to medium sized businesses. The launch of The Perfect Fifth EU is a milestone for Multee, as it marks the company’s largest distribution challenge to date, and has given Anders the opportunity to combine a professional passion – problem solving – and a hobby – collecting and tasting whisky.

“We are excited to be joining forces with The Perfect Fifth to launch their latest release into the European market, especially since – like Multee – they are a family founded and operated company,” said Multee Director, Anders Pettersson. We believe that, in combining their proven track record of curating the finest whiskies, with our technical know-how and regional distribution network, we have orchestrated the perfect match.”

The Perfect Fifth were named Scotch Campbeltown Independent Bottler of the Year in the 2019 Independent Bottlers Challenge, and awarded with a gold medal at the Spirits Business Design and Packaging Masters 2020. The Perfect Fifth’s range of Scottish whiskies has also collected numerous accolades from The Whisky Bible since release, including the Aberlour 30 Year Old, which was named Scotch 28 – 34 Years Single Cask of the Year in the 2021 Whisky Bible. Each whisky in this second release is packaged within a miniature wooden cask.

AN ICON RE-BORN: CHIVAS 12 UNVEILS BOLD, CONTEMPORARY NEW LOOK – Scotch Whisky News

AN ICON RE-BORN: CHIVAS 12 UNVEILS BOLD, CONTEMPORARY NEW LOOK

Blended Scotch whisky, Chivas, has unveiled a fresh new look for its flagship blend – the biggest redesign in Chivas’ 112-year history. Chivas 12 – one of the world’s biggest-selling Scotch whiskies – has undergone an extensive redesign of its bottle, label, and pack to usher in a striking new look that blends boldness, modernity, and status while still flexing the luxury and distinguished heritage long associated with Chivas.

Dropping globally from October 2021, the redesign sees the iconic Chivas 12 bottle reshaped and elongated to stand taller and prouder while still retaining its recognisable rounded shoulders. A redesigned crest shines a light on the beating heart of Chivas – the ‘luckenbooth’, a symbol embodying the Chivas values of ambition, generosity and unapologetic success.

The outer box has undergone a complete renewal with a vibrant burgundy replacing the familiar silver and gold tones as the principal colour scheme. The package retains the intricate detailing and textured finish loved by Chivas fans worldwide.

The entire redesign project was conceived with sustainability at its heart as part of parent company Chivas Brothers’ 2025 target of 100% recyclable, reusable, compostable or bio-based packaging. The new bottle is lighter, saving over 1000 tonnes of glass annually, while the outer packaging is now made from fully recyclable materials. The whisky in each bottle remains the same renowned smooth, rich and generous Chivas 12 blend.

The redesign is inspired by the aesthetics of a new, style-conscious generation of Scotch Whisky drinkers who are reforming and re-evaluating what luxury looks like. The sleek, luxe, and sophisticated new Chivas 12 is the first in a series of updates due to take place across the Chivas portfolio over the coming year.

Nick Blacknell, Global Marketing Director at Chivas, commented:

“We’re proud to deliver a redesign that speaks the language of a fresh new generation of Chivas drinkers while bringing established enthusiasts and connoisseurs along for the journey. Social media has introduced a new, broader audience to the wonder of whisky – ‘flex’ consumers with a hustle-first ethos that seek out upmarket brands to align themselves with.

“We have taken a bold, yet meticulous approach with all aspects of this redesign, and I’m especially looking forward to seeing our taller bottle take pride of place behind thousands of bars and clubs around the world. I’m particularly proud of the central role sustainability has played in reconceptualising Chivas 12 for a new generation. With this redesign, we have once again reinforced our belief that sustainable luxury is not an oxymoron.”

The new Chivas 12 will be dropping globally from October 2021, supported by a campaign launching in January 2022 that summons consumers to elevate themselves to new levels of status and hype. For more information, visit www.Chivas.com or follow us on Instagram @ChivasRegal.

Singular Caol Ila 12 Year Old Sherry Refill for a Jaw-Dropping Price – Scotch Whisky News

A Screaming Deal on a One-of-a-Kind Islay Stunner
2008 Caol Ila 12 Year Old “Old Particular” K&L Exclusive Single Refill Sherry Butt Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Pre-Arrival) ($74.99)
“Damn, this is a great whisky.” — Andrew Whiteley, K&L Spirits Buyer

Today’s offer gets right to the heart of what our Exclusive Cask program is all about. This incredible 12 Year Old refill Sherry butt represents one of our hands-down best single-cask buys of the year. Simply put, you won’t come across a better age-stated Islay malt for the price. Even the lower-proof distillery Caol Ila is going for around $100 on most shelves these days. So, to find a perfectly aged single-cask with an utterly unique Sherry expression for under $75? Well, that’s just unheard-of. As spirits buyer David Othenin-Girard describes, “it has gorgeous snappy peat, fabulously luscious texture, and a long, smoldering finish.” Spirits buyer Andrew Whiteley puts it even more succinctly: “At the obscenely low price, this is a no brainer.” Scotch enthusiasts will take note of the unparalleled value on offer in this cask, so anyone looking for a singular expression of one of Islay’s most beloved distilleries should act fast. This beauty will disappear in a flash.

2008 Caol Ila 12 Year Old “Old Particular” K&L Exclusive Single Refill Sherry Butt Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Pre-Arrival) ($74.99)

K&L Notes: Sometimes Scotch doesn’t make any sense. One year we’re able to offer an incredible deal on young Caol Ila, and the next year the same supplier has raised the price by 40%. Douglas Laing, however, has consistently offered us exceptional Caol Ila at ridiculously low prices. This refill Sherry butt is no exception, and while we talk about this as being “young,” these stocks, which we’ve now been buying for several years, really aren’t so young anymore. We had a stupendous 11 Year Old version last year, which sold out on pre-arrival, and we couldn’t believe they had another slightly older cask aged in refill Sherry at nearly the same price. This isn’t the dark, overpowering sherry that some would prefer, but it does add nuance and depth to the already extremely delicious Caol Ila malt. There aren’t a lot of affordable cask-strength, single-barrel Islay’s in the world these days, so we’re really happy this butt turned out nearly 400 bottles. Nevertheless, they’ll be gone way too quickly.

Andrew Whiteley | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: October 13, 2021

I can’t stress enough how light the color of this whisky is. Pale straw—not at all what you’d expect when reading ‘Sherry butt’ in the description. If I didn’t know better, I’d say it had to be a fino cask just on color, but it’s hard to believe it wouldn’t be called out as such if that were the case. Likely, just an old, classic refill that imparted its color to some previous whisky. Now, with that housekeeping out of the way … damn, this is a great whisky! I don’t know if it’s the cask influence or just the malt that day, but it feels smokier than a typical Caol Ila. Darker in flavor despite the color. Behind that brooding smoke is the pretty and easy-going fruit the distillery is famous for, but you’ve got to part the streaming smoke from the cold beach bonfire to find it. A little water and you’ve got more of a classic Caol Ila feel—lots of stone fruit, bright zippy citrus, a little seaweed, a bit of BBQ hardwood smoke, and length for days. At the obscenely low price, this is a no brainer. It’s pretty close to the wholesale cost of the OB 12-year these days.

David Othenin-Girard | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: September 10, 2021

When we say refill Sherry, we mean it. This one is the color of white wine. That’s a good sign in my book. While I love peat and sherry together, there can be a loss of the purity that I often crave, especially when I’m reaching for a Caol Ila. That’s not say this cask is merely a vessel—it’s got some unique character that I’d attribute to the larger container, but nothing that I’d necessarily describe as “Sherry”. These Caol Ila’s we’re getting are starting to get up there in age, and I just can’t believe we’re able to do it for $75. I can’t even get the low-proof distillery bottling on the shelf for under $100 these days. Anyway, I won’t ask too many questions why, but we’ll just keep buying them until our suppliers get wise. Again, the color is white wine. The nose is dark, wet, smoldering peat, somewhat outside the norm for Caol Ila. Behind that, you’ve got salted fish, gooseberries, mesquite, and menthol. On the palate, a darker, smoldering peat than we’re used to at first, but it quickly brightens with some lovely citrus and yellow fruit. The texture is very rich, and the finish is extremely long. With a few drops of water, we’re much closer to the classic, linear peat profile. Less fish and more citrus on the nose, with a palate featuring gorgeous snappy peat, fabulously luscious texture, and a long, smoldering finish. Caol Ila is just so damned good, we can’t get enough of it.

The Gauldrons – Campbeltown Malt Whisky – Limited Release – Scotch Whisky News

THE GAULDRONS

 CAMPBELTOWN BLENDED MALT WHISKY

70cl | 46.2% ABV

This spooky number from Douglas Laing is giving us shivers. The Gauldrons is a frighteningly flavourful expression which tells the story of the dark, stormy coves on Campbeltown’s west shores.

Available now, just in time for Halloween, this expression is available with a free branded glass while stocks last.

The nose opens with crisp sea air, gentle smoke, Manuka honey and a hint of dried seaweed. The palate initially shows a maritime character, leading to sugary shortbread, dried oak and gristy cereals. A distinctly spicy finish brings puffs of smoke, Madagascan vanilla and cinnamon pancakes. If you let it, the Gauldrons will put a spell on you.
