In 2021 Dom Whisky Jastrzębia Góra celebrated its twelfth Anniversary. Founded in 2009 in the picturesque coastal village, the place earned cult status right from the day one. Dom Whisky is a mandatory destination for anybody even slightly interested in “water of life”; our patrons often call it “a whisky temple” (the description we are proud of). Our selection features several thousand whisky expressions from all over the world. To commemorate our anniversary we selected a barrel of whisky from the distillery located in the smallest whisky production region in Scotland, formerly known as ‘Whiskypolis”. Our choice was Glen Scotia, whisky distilled in October 2013 and aged in bourbon barrel and finished for 12 months in second fill Demerara Rum barrel # 20/329-1. The whisky was bottled unfiltered at natural strength of 58.1% abv in May 2021 with an outrun of only 276 bottles. We believe you will enjoy our anniversary dram. Slàinte Mhath!

Nose: Caribbean meets Campbeltown, pineapple, coconut flakes, bananas, sultanas, salted caramel, vanilla, candied ginger and a dash of pepper.

Palate: follows the nose, rum-soaked raisins, grilled pineapple, papaya, banana bread, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, hints of ginger and oak.

Finish: fairly long, with notes of tropical fruit, vanilla, sweet pastries, cinnamon, ginger, hints of cocoa and oak.

A world premiere with our first batch of Blended Empire Rye! This is a 2 Year Old, a release of just 623 bottles at 50% abv.  In 2015, six leading New York State distilleries banded together to create a consortium dedicated to establishing a whiskey style for the Empire State. This whiskey was to be as distinctive, precisely crafted, and held to as high a standard as any of the illustrious whiskey styles in the world. Empire Rye was born–an homage to New York State’s pre-Prohibition rye whiskey-making heritage and a testament to the ingenuity and industriousness of its contemporary distillers. Each distiller’s bottling of Empire Rye is crafted in accordance with the same exacting specifications and yet each is given ample space to express their creativity. It’s aim is to make the category of Empire Rye known throughout the world. This blend consists of 9 distilleries. All of them from New York State, and all of them specifically Empire Rye. Nobody has ever blended a selection of Empire Rye before, so what an opportunity to herd nine distilleries, arguably competitors, to unite and promote their Standard of Identity! We’re very proud that we were able to get these nine distilleries to work with us, allowing us to bring you this first ever Blended Empire Rye. Two American Oak Second Fill

Our next release will be a pair of American oak second fill single cask whiskies, TD0059 & TD0198. Admired for their softer cask presence, second fill casks allow more of the spirit and character of the distillery to shine. For Sullivans Cove, it’s the tropical fruits and biscuity malt flavours that come to the fore, creating balanced, complex and moreish whiskies.

Both whiskies will be available to purchase via ballot on Tuesday 7^th of September.  A further note will be sent on Tuesday 11:00am Hobart time with a link to enter the ballot (Visit our website to be added to our email list!).

TD0059 was matured for 15 years and 5 months in a single, 300L American oak cask previously used to mature one of our American Oak whisky releases. It yielded just 414 bottles.

TD0198 was matured for 13 years and 8 months in a single, 300L American oak cask, yielding only 424 bottles. The cask had previously been used to mature one of our American Oak ex-Tawny releases.

About the KWM 2021 Whisky Calendar

The KWM Whisky Calendar, aka “25 Days of Dram Fine Whisky”, is back for the 8th straight year. Once again the calendar will have a fresh new look, which we will be revealing in late September. This year’s calendar includes 24 50ml premium whiskies, a custom logo Glencairn glass, and a 100ml Scotch Malt Whisky Society whisky for Christmas Day. You can follow along on the KWM Blog starting December 1, or one of our various social media channels as we introduce and discuss each day’s whisky. And there is more…

Last year, inspired by Covid and the rise of Zoom events, we held 5 Whisky Calendar Recap Tastings throughout the month of December. They were such a big hit, that we knew we’d have to bring them back again this year. Accordingly we will hold tastings for participants on December 5, 10, 15, 20 and after Christmas on 29th. Each of them will cover the 5 prior day’s whiskies in the Calendar.

The whiskies this year include 3 KWM exclusive casks, a number of whiskies in their 20s, and more than a dozen distilleries and producers never before featured in any of our prior Whisky Calendars. We also worked hard to keep the pricing as reasonable as we possibly could this year, which wasn’t easy. Prices have been rising across the board, and supply chain issues have affected everything from the availability of glass and cardboard to delays in shipping and bottling. Never the less we are confident that we have put together another amazing product this year, and we know you are going to love it!

Best of all, if you select the pre-pay preorder option, you will save $50… this option was very popular last year, and completely sold out 2020’s original production in just 2 weeks!

We anticipate the KWM 2021 Whisky Advent Calendars should be ready for pick up in early November, that is as long as everything goes as planned… which in the Covid Era you can never be 100% sure of. But we’ve planned accordingly, and ordered early from all of our suppliers!

Lux Row Distillers releases the second edition of its Blood Oath Trilogy featuring

Pacts 4, 5 and 6

Highly collectible bourbons will be available in September 

ST. LOUIS (Aug. 26, 2021) — Lux Row Distillers announced the release of Blood Oath Trilogy – Second Edition, the latest collection of limited-release bourbons, or “Pacts,” created by Lux Row Master Distiller John Rempe. Featuring 750 ml bottles of Pacts 4, 5 and 6, this latest Trilogy has a limited supply of 1,400 sets, and its $799 suggested retail price reflects the quality and scarcity of these bourbons. The newest Blood Oath Trilogy will be available in late September.

In 2014, Rempe decided to create an exceptional bourbon using a blend of three unique Kentucky straight bourbon whiskeys. The following year, that idea came to fruition with the creation of the Blood Oath series. The name refers to a promise Rempe made to keep the blend of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskeys a secret known only to him, as well as a promise to create the best bourbon for bourbon connoisseurs. Now, every year Rempe adds a new Pact to the Blood Oath family. Each Pact comes in at 98.6 proof (49.3% ABV), is carefully crafted and will never be repeated.

The second Blood Oath Trilogy contains Pacts 4, 5 and 6 – reserved since 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively – and is packaged in a black wooden display box designed to highlight each Pact’s distinctive label.

• Blood Oath Pact 4 is a blend of an extra-aged 12-year bourbon, a rich 10-year bourbon and a 9-year bourbon finished in toasted barrels for seven months. It has an ultra-smooth finish with lasting notes of caramel, vanilla and oak.
• Blood Oath Pact 5 is a blend of a 13-year mahogany bourbon, peppery with shavings of dark chocolate; an 11-year silky, wheated bourbon rich with vanilla and honey; and an 8-year bourbon finished in Caribbean rum barrels to impart orange, brown sugar and warm island spice notes.
• Pact 6 rounds out the Trilogy with a blend of a 14-year ryed bourbon which provides oak and leather undertones; an 8-year, toasty, ryed bourbon that delivers hints of spice; and a 7-year ryed bourbon finished in cognac casks to produce a slightly fruity, brandy flavor.

“I look back on each Pact I’ve created for the Blood Oath Series with a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment, and with each new Pact I develop, I become more eager to create the next,” said Rempe. “The bourbons I’ve selected to create each Pact are becoming rarer and harder to find, as are the resulting Pacts themselves. A Blood Oath Trilogy set is like a piece of bourbon history. I’ll never repeat a blend, so once it is gone, it’s gone.”

ENJOY ART INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE BOTTLE

Canvas is our artful exploration of whisky’s bolder colours. We’ve drawn on very special casks seasoned for two years with Vino Naranja, orange wine from Condado de Huelva. Made from a grape must – typically derived from Palomino or Pedro Ximénez grapes – which is infused with bitter orange peel and then fortified, it’s Spain’s only aromatised wine with protected origin status. We filled these casks with mature whisky from the Tomatin Distillery for a further three years, and this special parcel makes up 10.9% of the recipe for Canvas. The resulting flavours of citrus oils and honeyed oak were so striking that our thoughts turned to the captivating texture and power of oil-on-canvas paintings. Could this colourful whisky inspire art in those who take a sip?

WHAT’S IN A FRAME?

The Canvas label is an ornate ‘trophy frame’ inspired by the Renaissance trend for memorialising the lifetime’s achievements of the person pictured within. Except we’re not celebrating an individual, but rather the story of whiskymaking. The eagle-eyed will spot nine specific details in the frame that paint a picture of our process, including a nose to denote the importance of aroma in the art of whiskymaking and a fiery hourglass signifying ageing and cask charring.
