New whisky! Talisker 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak ✨ at Loch Fyne Whiskies – Scotch Whisky News

The latest release!
Talisker 43 Year Old Xpedition Oak

Listen up folks! We have a special single malt that has just landed…

Talisker 43 Year Old is one of the oldest and rarest whiskies that the Isle of Skye distillery have released to date! It is the first in the Xpedition Oak series which celebrates wild whisky making crafted by the elements.

This rare single malt has matured in American oak hogsheads and is limited to 1,830 bottles from a selection of only ten casks. It has then been finished in casks made of staves joined by British adventurer James Aiken on his journey across the ocean in his Atlantic Challenge, with each bottle of this rare malt accompanied by a piece of one of these very staves. Left at a cask strength of 50% ABV, the bottle is housed in a lovely decorative wooden box adorned with artwork of crashing waves representing the maritime influence at the heart of this expression.

Don’t hesitate to add this one to your collection as we don’t have many!

Nose: mellow spiced fruit loaf with a delicious top note of stewed apple and a whisp of aromatic smoky wax, varnished wood and sea air.

Palate: a smooth and juicy start with vibrancy, moving to sweet, rich intensity and gentle astringency with a peppery warmth and fresh, balanced sea salt spray.

Finish: wonderfully long sweet chilli pepper notes that suffuse the palate.

The recipes can be found on www.glenmorangie.com and on the single malt’s social channels.

Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation, said: “X by Glenmorangie came from our dream of creating even more flavour possibilities, with a single malt that’s made to mix. HolyXXXX, the Holyrood Distillery Courtyard Bar is Back! – Scotch Whisky News

HolyXXXX, the Holyrood Distillery Courtyard Bar is Back!

Holyrood Distillery’s Courtyard Bar is set to return with a range of carefully selected drinks from local independent brewers and distillers and a delicious food menu.

The Courtyard Bar, which ran for the first time over the summer of 2020, will open on Monday 26th April, at Holyrood Distillery: the first single malt distillery in Edinburgh for almost 100 years. The area outside the striking distillery, just off St Leonard’s Lane, will be transformed into a relaxed al fresco bar and bistro space for a summer social.

Visitors to the bar will be first in line to try new drinks from the distillery.

Alongside drinks from Holyrood Distillery, the bar will also support other local businesses emerging from lockdown by showcasing the best in independent brewing and distilling: including draught pints by Pilot, Barneys and Crossborders and some of the best new whiskies from across Scotland, including Isle of Raasay and Nc’Nean.

Award-winning Edinburgh caterer Hickory will be providing a unique menu with dishes including Hickory’s signature sandwich and salad, chicken tenders, and chili cheese fries, as well as hot drinks. An ice-cream tricycle will also be serving up scoops.

A covered and heated seating area will also be available.

Opening on 26th April, the Holyrood Distillery Courtyard Bar will be a safe space for families and friends to come together. Children will be welcome with their family group until 7pm.  The bar will be open daily from 1pm to 8pm in the first week, and then on Thursdays to Saturdays from 1pm to 9pm, and on Sundays 12pm-6pm. Service will initially be table-service only, with contactless orders via an online app. Tables will seat a maximum of 6 people, with an overall capacity of up to 120. Pre-booking is highly recommended: details can be found at www.holyrooddistillery.co.uk alongside full opening hours.

The Distillery Shop will also reopen from 26th April. Here visitors can get first dibs on Holyrood Distillery’s new gin, HolyXXXX, alongside a selection of local craft beer and spirits.  Draught pints, growlers and G&T picnic packs will also be available to takeaway – perfect for enjoying at home, in Holyrood Park or after climbing Arthur’s Seat.

Holyrood Distillery’s Brand Home Manager, Debs Newman said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be able to reopen our Courtyard as a sunny, safe and social space; for friends, families and neighbours to come together again. After a massively challenging year for everyone, and a particularly tough time for the hospitality industry, I know the distillery team will all be very emotional to see people back here again, enjoying the space, and supporting the other small distillers and brewers that we are showcasing”.

Recently recognised as ‘Visitor Attraction of the Year’ at Icons of Whisky 2021 Awards, Holyrood Distillery’s Tours and Experiences will reopen in June. Tickets can be pre-booked at www.holyrooddistillery.co.uk.

Pre-booking for the Courtyard Bar is recommended and Holyrood Distillery asks all visitors to adhere to government guidance and onsite direction.

Cotswolds Distillery “Introducing our new Hearts & Crafts expression” – English Whisky News

Introducing our new Hearts & Crafts expression

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our limited edition Hearts & Crafts Pineau De Charentes Cask Single Malt Whisky which is now available to purchase on our website. As one of our Club members, we are offering you the chance to buy a bottle before it is made available to the general public.

Our Pineau de Charentes Cask is the second expression in our Hearts & Crafts collection. This yearly limited edition series celebrates the Arts & Crafts movement which flourished here in the Cotswolds and stood for the importance of traditional craftsmanship – the same values upon which our beautiful rural distillery was built.

For this release, we’ve selected a small parcel of premium French oak ex-red wine casks seasoned with white Pineau de Charentes – a wonderful blend of fresh grape juice and Cognac. The sweet notes of this golden aperitif wine are well balanced by the French oak tannins, resulting in wonderfully rich notes of tonka bean, marzipan and caramelised peaches.

Meet Ellie Deans, Haig Club & Bell’s Brand Manager – Scotch Whisky News

Meet Ellie Deans, Haig Club & Bell’s Brand Manager

Meet Ellie Deans, Haig Club & Bell’s Brand Manager, talking disruption and turning whisky stereotypes on their head.

Ellie has been with Diageo since 2019 where she started her career on the Pimm’s team. She has since worked with Gordon’s, Tanqueray and now sits within our whisky team as Haig Club and Bell’s Brand Manager.

What has your Diageo experience been like since joining to your current role?

When I joined Diageo in 2019, I jumped straight into my career highlight of working at Wimbledon with the quintessentially British brand – Pimm’s. My colleague Lizzy True and myself brought Hollywood names to the Championship and refreshed the brand’s look and feel to move Pimm’s into a brighter, more modern era. I then moved into the Gin team to help launch Gordon’s Sicilian Lemon before heading over to Tanqueray and I have now landed as Brand Manager for Haig Club and Bell’s Whisky.

What do you love most about working at Diageo?

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to quality brands to work on! Beyond the diversity and spread of job role, the collaborative atmosphere at Diageo is also something I relish. Success is never achieved alone and there is a plethora of people willing to share their knowledge and expertise.

What is the most exciting part about your current role?

I love the variety my job gives me. I currently handle very different whisky brands in GB: Haig Club and Bell’s.

Bell’s is a well-loved British classic, which has had some challenges. However, it’s had an incredible turnaround and the brand has exciting plans for 2021!

Haig Club is a pioneering Scotch brand made in a ground-breaking sustainable distillery and in collaboration with Brand Partner, David Beckham. For Haig Club, the name of the game is disruption, turning whisky stereotypes on their head and constantly embedding ourselves in culture with a new generation of whisky drinkers – hence our innovative move into spirit drinks with Haig Club Mediterranean Orange.

The most recent innovation that you worked on is Haig Club Mediterranean Orange – tell us more!

At Diageo I have the opportunity to work with talented people across a number of vastly different brands. From overcoming challenges on Bell’s Whisky to launching Haig Club’s first ever Spirit Drink Mediterranean Orange alongside brand partner, David Beckham, there’s never a dull moment in dark spirits.

Haig Club Mediterranean Orange has been a long time in the making involving consumer research and tastings with our brand partner David Beckham to ensure the end liquid is perfect. Delivering a distinctive taste of the Mediterranean with its blend of fresh and juicy marmalade orange flavours, the liquid is infused with orange blossom extract and the signature scotch notes of Haig Club Clubman. What’s most exciting is research indicated that this Spirit Drink has huge appeal, so my challenge to readers is; if your usual tipple is a lighter spritz, give Haig Club Mediterranean Orange a go!
