July Auction Closing Tonight!
Auction Ends Monday July 13th at 9pm (BST)
There’s over 1,780 lots to bid on this month!
This is our biggest auction to date, meaning an even greater selection of exciting bottles! They include some pieces of whisky history in the form of a bottle that went down with the S.S Politician, Old and Rare Islay Malts as well as some exciting new releases.

S.S Politician – Whisky Galore 1940’s
A very exciting and rare bottling where you have a chance to own a piece of whisky history! The bottle comes from one of the most famous shipwrecks in history, the S.S Politician. The SS Politician ran aground off the shores of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides in 1941. The salvage operation by divers, islanders, and the efforts of custom and excise officials to frustrate this, inspired the novel Whisky Galore. This was adapted for cinema in 1949 and again in 2016. The bottle was recovered by diver George Currie, director of Currie Brothers Limited and can be seen in the picture bottom left. While working on a subsea cable repair from South Uist – Eriskay, the team located the wreck. George said: “As you can see with the smile on our faces, it was a great days diving”. Everyone in the whisky world is well aware of the significance of the SS Politician, which is why its story has been adapted for cinema twice. The whisky onboard ranged from Gilbey’s, Ballantine’s, VAT 69 and more.

Ardbeg Wee Beastie 5 Year Old
70cl · 47.4% ABV
£38.95

Ardbeg Wee Beastie has been matured for just 5 years, making it the untamed ‘enfant terrible’ of the whisky world. Whereas most single malts seek the smoothness and balance of older age, Ardbeg know that more time in cask tends to subdue the smokiness that so many whisky fans love. By boldly proclaiming the whisky’s relative youthfulness, Ardbeg invite consumer curiosity and promise a monstrously smoky experience.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 324: Rowan’s Creek Straight Kentucky Bourbon – American Whiskey News

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 324: Rowan’s Creek Straight Kentucky Bourbon
Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky vlogger, tries an American whiskey. Rowan’s Creek is a small batch bourbon that is produced by the Kentucky Bourbon Distillers company in Bardstown, Kentucky. It has won top awards at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and is bottled at 100.1 Proof, which translates into the rather odd 50.05% ABV. Takes some time to open up, but then reveals itself to be feisty and complex.
One of my goals in life – get Liz to like a peaty dram! By Paul McLean of MCLEAN SCOTLAND Whisky Tours
One of my goals in life – get Liz to like a peaty dram!
Ask Liz if she would like a dram, of say Laphroaig, she will make a strange noise and pull a face. She cannee stand the smell of a peaty whisky, never mind taste. This is a goal in life – by hook or by crook I will get her drinking/liking peaty drams. The key maybe to start her off with a cocktail. The flavour of peated whisky can be hard going, peated Scotch is floated on top of a drink, where a small amount has maximum aromatic impact, the Penicillin being the best-known example. Another is to pair peated whisky (from Scotland of course), with another spirit, which helps moderate the smoky influence without burying it altogether. The best combination I can think of is peated Scotch plus a mellow, unpeated whiskey, which means an Irish whiskey. Peated Scotch also holds its’ own nicely against rich or sweet ingredients, such as egg whites, syrups or liqueurs. The Wind-Up, showcases both peated and unpeated whisky alongside amaretto, or geat and egg white.
With this in mind; Peat Beast Old Fashioned 60ml Peat Beast/Bid Peat, 5ml Dry White Port, 1/2 Cane sugar cube, 6-7 dashes of hop and grapefruit bitters. Served with a burnt orange peel. Or we can move on to a famous Scot; The Rob Roy Whisky Cocktail: 2 ounces of Islay Whisky, 3 quarter ounces of sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters and serve over ice. Finish the cocktail with a cherry garnish or alternatively, a lemon twist. In fact, this cocktail, unlike its’ name suggests, was actually created at the Waldolf Astoria in Manhattan. The barman decided to mark the celebration of the opening premiere of the Rob Roy operetta in 1984 with his creation, and as such the cocktail grew in popularity very quickly. Today the Rob Roy continues to thrive as a popular choice of drink. Then of course is the Famous ‘Hot Toddy’: but come on, it’s only these past 4 years or so I have got Liz away from toddy’s! 3/4 Cloves, 2 Star Anise, half snap of a cinnamon stick, 2 teaspoons of honey, half a thumb of ginger, orange zest, grapefruit zest, 500mls boiling water, 50mls of Ardbeg Islay whisky per glass.
So where do we go? Maybe a real sneaky way into peat, have our usual tasting session (research & development) and wait until she appears silly (guaranteed), then slip a weak peat into her glass, start low and work up – maybe with a dram of Allt-a-Bhainne ? A Speyside single malt – normally used as an ingredient in blends, this single malt puts a peaty twist on the traditional Speyside profile to achieve a sweet, spicy and accessible malt with, as Allt-a-Bhainne themselves put it, ‘just enough peat to start a fire’.
PAUL MCLEAN her pal, business partner and friend of over 20 years!
Liz – “I can’t help it, I WANT to like them but they turn my stomach, I once said the worst ones remind me of a funeral parlour!! That’s fun ‘eh?
SIX MILLIONTH BARREL RAISES MORE THAN $1 MILLION FOR CHARITIES – American Whiskey News

SIX MILLIONTH BARREL RAISES MORE THAN $1 MILLION FOR CHARITIES
Buffalo Trace Bourbon Bottles from the Six Millionth Barrel Exceed $500,000 Goal
FRANKFORT, KY (July 07, 2020) – In May 2019, Buffalo Trace Distillery chose 378 charities to receive special edition bottles from the six millionth barrel of Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The whiskey filled 375ml bottles was exclusively distributed to non-profit organizations in the United States to raise funds for charities.
To date, 332 non-profit organizations have raised $1,145,162 for charities of their choosing, while 56 others have had to reschedule or postpone fundraising efforts due to Covid-19. This number exceeds the original goal of raising $500,000 and is expected to grow as non-profits come up with creative ways to safely raise funds in the next few months. Causes that have benefitted include education services, ecological foundations, leukemia and lymphoma, arts foundations, veterans, animal rights and many more. The full list of charities can be found online at www.6millionthbarrel.com.
Each organization that was chosen received a bottle with a beautifully handwritten description on the glass. The bottles were packaged in a hardwood showcase box that included a piece of the charred oak stave from the historic barrel and a small brochure that explained the significance of this collector’s edition.
The top fundraiser, Bourbon Charity, raised $69,125 from a donor base of bourbon enthusiasts through their Six Millionth Barrel to Give Thanks event. The fundraiser was set up as online sweepstakes which allowed donations starting at $10.
Behind them was the Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum, Idaho. Their annual Y Classic event helped raise $39,000 toward scholarships and programs for the organization. In total, $225,000 was raised for the Wood River Community YMCA.
The Lovely Project in Orlando, Florida raised $24,000 with their efforts. The Lovely Project exists to provide girls with tools, education and peer-mentorship to live a purposeful, productive life. The Lovely Project held its second annual Pappy & Friends event, a rare whiskey tasting and dinner experience, that concluded with an ask for donations. The highest donor received the limited edition bottle, which resulted with two individuals matching donations and sharing the bottle.
This is the third time Buffalo Trace Distillery has offered commemorative bottles for non-profits to use for fundraising purposes. In 2011 the Distillery offered its Millennium Barrel of bourbon, put up to age on Dec. 31, 1999. That effort raised more than $150,000 for various charities across the U.S. In 2016, its inaugural O.F.C. Bourbon Whiskey from 1980, 1982 and 1983 were released in the same manner, and non-profits reported back they had raised more than a million dollars for charitable causes.
Buffalo Trace is not currently offering any bottles for charity fundraising, but in order to keep potential partners informed of periodic charitable offerings, non-profits can register their causes through a form on the Distillery’s Contact Us page of its website at https://buffalotracedistillery.com/content/charity-sign.
