The Macallan-50 year old Lalique 1946

Part I of a superb collection of The Macallan – to be sold over two sales between now and Christmas – leads Bonhams Whisky Sale in Edinburgh on Wednesday 7 October. It will be held at Bonhams Edinburgh saleroom at 22 Queen Street Edinburgh EH2 1JX.

The pinnacle of the collection is the extremely rare, highly sought-after Macallan-50 year old in a crystal decanter made by the renowned French glassmaker Lalique. The first release of the famous Lalique Six Pillars Collection, it is estimated at £60,000-80,000.

Not far behind in scarcity, are The Macallan-1951 (£15,000-20,000) and The Macallan-1961 (£14,000 – 16,000), both single cask expressions released by The Macallan in 2000, just before the launch of the Fine & Rare Collection. They sold out within hours of their release and are now almost impossible to acquire.

Other bottles from the collection offered in this sale include:

·         The Macallan Fine & Rare-35 year old-1966 (£20,000-30,000) and

·         The Macallan Select Reserve-52 year old-1946 (£10,000-14,000).

Bonhams Whisky specialist in Edinburgh Martin Green said: “This is one of the most interesting and wide ranging collections of The Macallan to come to auction for some  years; to own just one of these bottles would be a dream come true for most whisky collectors. The owner also enjoyed drinking The Macallan, so there are many younger bottles, at more modest estimates, which filled up his well-stocked bar and cellar. We are selling the bulk of the 70 strong collection on October 7th, with the remainder offered in our sale on December 9th

The sale also offers rare bottles from other collectors including:

·         The Macallan Lalique-57 year old.  Numbered 305 or 400 from the Third of The Lalique Six Pillars Collection it is estimated at: £30,000-45,000.

·         A complete set of Glenfarclas The Family Casks 1952-1994 offered in a number of discreet lots ranging from Glenfarclas The Family Casks 1952-1959 estimated at £34,000-39,000 to Glenfarclas The Family Casks 1990-1994 estimated at £4,000-4,750.

·         Bowmore Dynasty-31 year old in an Atlantis crystal decanter. Number 124 of 500, it has a sterling silver casing with gilt mounted medallions of the monarchs of The Royal House of Stewart.  Estimated at £4,500-5,000.
