The Whisky Shop “Octomore 10.4 Dialogos Virgin Oak – Pre-order today!” – Scotch Whisky News

Octomore 10.4 Dialogos Virgin Oak
Pre-order Today

This fourth release in the tenth series of Octomore – Bruichladdich’s super-heavily peated expression – is described as ‘The Outlier’ in the Dialogos series exploring the range beyond its PPM (the measure of peat in phenols per million). Distilled in 2016 from Scottish Concerto barley, peated to 114ppm and aged in virgin Limousin oak casks for three years, this expression is one of the youngest releases from the Octomore range.

Bottled at a strength of 63.5% abv free from chill filtration and artificial colouring, this expression is limited to 12,000 bottles worldwide. This Islay single malt is designed to be compared with the Octomore 10.1 release which is described at ‘The Control’ and is also produced with Scottish-grown barley, but matured for five years in bourbon barrels

THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY UNVEILS NEW MONOGRAM BADGE – Scotch Whisky News

THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY UNVEILS NEW MONOGRAM BADGE

A new year brings a new look for The Scotch Malt Whisky Society with the spirit of membership at its heart

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) have unveiled a new monogram badge across everything they do. The monogram represents their heritage at The Vaults, Edinburgh but also celebrates their role as a members’ club – a community across countries and cultures, united in their passion for sharing exceptional whisky and spirits.

The introduction of the new monogram goes much deeper than making a cosmetic change. In 2020, the SMWS are bringing the Society membership experience further to life with the opening of a new Members’ Room in Glasgow and a refurbishment and expansion of the Edinburgh Members’ Room at 28 Queen Street.

Last year ended on a high for the SMWS, with a third consecutive award as Independent Bottler of the Year in the Independent Bottlers’ Challenge competition

Head of Marketing & Membership at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society Helen Stewart said: “We’re excited to launch our new monogram, representing our rich past but also our confidence in the future.

“Membership is at the heart of everything we do and we can’t wait to hear the reaction of our Society of kindred spirits and curious characters.

“As ever, we will continue to release the world’s most exceptional whiskies, but above and beyond that we want members to share the joy of belonging to the world’s most colourful whisky club.”

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was founded in 1983 through a spirit of friendship – a small group of people who used the discovery of single cask whisky as a reason to get together and enjoy each other’s company. The SMWS now has more than 26,000 members across the world.

Octomore has always challenged convention. Many preconceived ideas about whisky have been overturned but perhaps the most provocative stigma still to be shattered is that which surrounds age.

Distilled from Scottish barley in 2016, this three year old Octomore 10.4 is the youngest ever released, yet the most impressive. Standing alone in any heavyweight line-up, the depth, balance and composure of this Virgin Oak release is astounding.

Twenty-eight casks cut from Limousin oak have been subjected to a high toast before making their way to Warehouse 12 for filling. Their high tannic impact is subsided by a high toast level which gives way to a dry fruit character that is impeccably well-rounded.

Exclusive GlenAllachie single sherry cask 🥃 at The Whisky Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

GlenAllachie 11 Year Old Sherry Cask

Glenallachie 2007 TWB Exclusive

Bottled at a whopping 61.3% abv and selected from the Signatory Vintage warehouses exclusively for TWB. Matured in a first fill sherry hogshead boasting flavours of stewed plums, chocolate raisins and spices. Glenallachie 11 Year Old 2007 vintage Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. Single cask first fill sherry hogshead #900169 bottled February 2019 by Signatory Vintage for the Un-Chillfiltered series. This is a specially selected release exclusive to The Whisky Barrel. 324 bottles at natural cask strength. Nose: Sweet and dry sherry. Hints of cereal and slightly burnt malt. Palate: On the palate stewed plums and milk chocolate coated raisins. A lovely note of nutmeg and a hint of bees wax. The finish is long, dry and sweet.

Glenallachie Distillery is a Speyside distillery sitting on the eastern edge of Ben Rinnes mountain where it is rather exposed to the elements and is often to be see sitting within the snowline. A modern building and its architect William Delmé-Evans created a distillery which is rather pleasing on the eye. Glenallachie was commissioned in 1967 with two stills which increased to four in 1989 in order to meet blenders ever increasing demand for Glenallachie malt whisky. Whilst official releases are few independent releases are more numerous with those from Signatory Vintage and Cadenheads proving popular.

Whiskey investment company targets €24m revenue after record year – Whiskey News

Whiskey investment company targets €24m revenue after record year

Alternative investment company, Whiskey & Wealth Club has its sights set on further success for 2020, targeting a 140% revenue increase to €24m. In only its third year of operating, its headcount is set to rise by 48%.

Last year was the company’s most successful to date. Revenue hit €10m, while its headcount grew from 4 to 27, both highlighting the strength and opportunities with whiskey investment and its increasing appeal to investors. The company was also shortlisted for Young Company of the Year at the Growing Business Awards at the end of 2019.

Based in both Richmond and Dublin, Whiskey & Wealth Club, offers investors the opportunity to purchases casks of new make spirit direct from leading distilleries. The casks are then stored in a secure bonded warehouse for the ageing process, before it can be bottled, sold or aged for longer.

Originally founded to open up the rapidly growing Irish whiskey market to private investors, the company has now expanded its operations. Last year, Whiskey & Wealth Club launched into the Scotch whisky market, partnering with the historic Bladnoch Distillery, and has designs on entering new markets in the US and Japan.

Jay Bradley, founder at Whisky & Wealth Club, said: “We’re extremely pleased by our efforts over the past year, all the hard work from the team is very much paying off, with record revenues reported and our team seeing a significant growth in headcount.

What started as an idea over a glass of Irish whiskey has developed into the successful business Whiskey & Wealth Club is today. Whiskey is seeing its popularity continually grow on a global basis. Irish whiskey exports have grown 300% in the last decade, according to the Irish Food Board, Bord Bia.

We’ve now laid the foundations of success to build on in the new year and the decade, which will provide further exciting opportunities for the whiskey industry for investors and distillers alike.”
