Talisker 18yo at The Whisky Barrel – Scotch Whisky News

Talisker 18 Year Old

2019 bottling year of the single malt from the Isle of Skye distillery. Always a bestseller at TWB and it’s not hard to see why; a sweetly rich and warming dram with just a hint of smoke. Unmissable this festive season!

Direct from the Land of Milk and Honey, a Whisky You’ll Just Have to Try – Israeli Whisky News

Single Malt Whisky is produced throughout the world; most notably in Scotland where Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been produced for centuries. The rest of the world has been slowly catching up to Scotch Malt Whisky but, really, it’s been in the past 5-10 years that consumers the world over started paying attention to producers in countries such as Japan, Wales, Belgium, England, France, Germany and now, Israel.

ImpEx Beverages has been focusing on and importing smaller, Independent Single Malt distilleries and producers since the company started in 2008. The company has aligned itself with distilleries such as Kilchoman (Scotland), Penderyn (Wales), and Gouden Carolus (Belgium) over these years and is proud to announce they’ve partnered with Tel Aviv’s (Israel) The M&H Distillery (also commonly known as The Milk & Honey Distillery).

The M&H Distillery had caught the eye of ImpEx Beverages, in part, because the distillery itself shares an origin story with Kilchoman, Penderyn, and Gouden Carolus. That origin is Dr. Jim Swan.

Dr. Jim Swan, sadly now passed, had over 40 years in the industry and was known as “the Einstein of whisky” and “the ultimate whisky troubleshooter”. In his career Dr. Swan has consulted with distilleries such as the aforementioned Kilchoman, Penderyn, & Gouden Carolus but also Clydeside, Annandale, Kavalan, Cotswold, Amrut, and many more. While ImpEx Beverages has been importing Kilchoman since 2010, began importing Penderyn in 2018, and began importing Gouden Carolus in 2019 they’ve been keeping an eye on The M&H Distillery because, in part, this was Dr. Swan’s final project.

Another reason ImpEx Beverages kept an eye on The M&H Distillery is that their quality of spirit preceded them.  The word throughout the whisky industry was that something very special was being produced in Tel Aviv.  Something special indeed, inspired by the innovative and vibrant culture there.

“To be honest, I’ve had an eye on The M&H Distillery since I heard they broke ground  way back in 2014.” says Sam Filmus, President and Managing Director of ImpEx Beverages. “Like Kavalan and Amrut,” Filmus continued, “The M&H Distillery is located in an extremely hot climate so their maturation will not only be swift but unique. The way the flavors are extracted from the wood will simply be different than what you’d expect from, say, a Single Malt Scotch Whisky producer.”

“We are honored and excited to start our US journey with ImpEx Beverages, Inc. as our strategic partner and be a part of its excellent craft portfolio” says M&H CEO Eitan Attir.  “We look forward to meeting the American consumers and introducing them to our quality spirits.”

“To many, Kosher practices and products (and the certification thereof) are a testament to a specific quality standards, but to some it’s also a religious practice.” says Joshua Hatton, Regional Sales Executive, ImpEx Beverages.  “But what I enjoy about M&H and their whiskies is that the focus is first on making great spirits and secondly on the Kosher aspect.  They are, first and foremost, a spirits producer, and one that ensures everything they produce meets Kosher standards.”

While The M&H Distillery makes a range of spirits from whisky to gin to liqueurs, ImpEx Beverages will be importing two whisky SKUs, exclusively crafted for the U.S.  These exclusive Small Batches are a preview to their commercial release that will be in the U.S. in mid-2020 with the M&H Classic Single Malt Whisky.

Whisky in Bloom Double Cask is bottled at 46% ABV and was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and STR casks.

Whisky in Bloom Lightly Peated is bottled at 46% ABV and was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon, STR, and ex-Islay (smoky Scotch whisky) casks.

Both whiskies have been bottled without chill-filtration and without any caramel color added.

Suggested Retail price for both whiskies is: $55.00.

Cadenhead’s London – Scotch Whisky News

We are almost at the end of the year for the releases, it has been a busy year one way or another, we have seen some amazing whiskies and more recently the introduction of a new world range of spirits like the new single cask Armagnac, Cachaca and Calvados with the additional vintages added to the Cognacs.

What will be next? Time will tell I guess, but before we try to guess too much – let us look at the current range.

Some classic drams have been added to the release like the very enjoyable Speyside distillery 28 years old. This dram is one to look at, as it’s a great age and taste, excellent in the finish and it seems to grow with every sip.

We have an incredible Ord distilled in 2008, that’s a true classic of the distillery style. This one has rich and complex mid palate tones, that lead to a really nice and creamy finish, adding some twists and turns as it draws you back in again and again.

Deanston is back with the rum cask! If you have ever had a Deanston then you will understand how great a quality distillate this can be! Especially with the rum cask, their product keeps the familiar elements of Deanston, whilst offering somewhat different perspective to their delicious range of flavours. We can’t recommend Deanston enough as a single malt!

Sherry cask whisky is also included in this release, but with a twist, as it’s a single cask Grain from Strathclyde distillery. You will be expecting extremely elegant, smooth and rich offering.

Also a charming Glentauchers is included in this release, being a classic Speyside single malt packed with flavour that never fails to deliver. It’s one of those surprising younger vintages that stand out nicely.

Benrinnes is another favourite here in London! This vintage was distilled a few months after the London Shop was opened in 1995, so this is a great dram to talk about with the anniversary year coming up in 2020.

THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY WELCOME AMAZON PRIME FOR SPECIAL TASTING – Scotch Whisky News

THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY WELCOME AMAZON PRIME FOR SPECIAL TASTING

The world’s leading whisky club, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), will feature in the new series of Amazon Prime’s travelogue show with a drinks twist, The Three Drinkers Do Scotch Whisky.

In an upcoming episode, presenters and professional drinks writing trio Helena Nicklin, Aidy Smith and Colin Hampden-White are treated to some rare single malt whiskies from the SMWS as they continue their adventures through Scotland exploring the famous spirit.

Helen Stewart, Head of Marketing and Membership at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, invited The Three Drinkers to explore all things SMWS and taste some special drams from across their extensive collection, including the 32-year-old Cask No. 37.97: Old and delightful, yet firm.

As well as the SMWS, The Three Drinkers team also explored the biggest existing collection of whiskies in the world from the closed St Magdalene distillery and visited The Dalmore, Jura Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Fettercairn Highland Single Malt, Glen Scotia, Loch Lomond Whisky and Glen Moray.

The trio begin the new series, airing on Friday 6th December, on the Isle of Jura and head west through Campbeltown, once-upon-a-time ‘the whiskiest place in the world’, before taking in Glasgow, trying their hands at various physical challenges and tasting drams at distilleries along the way.

“Episodes 5, 6 and 7 have quite a different feel,” says Smith. “There’s more adventure, more travel and tourism and we even start to taste spirits – shock horror – other than whisky!”

You can watch all episodes now on Amazon Prime here.

To celebrate the series, the trio also sourced their own limited-edition whisky inspired by all the locations in the show. Cask Selection No. 1 is a 17-year-old blended malt available exclusively through Master of Malt for £39.95.

Wood’s High Mountain Distillery Releases Sawatch American Malt Whiskey – American Whiskey News

Wood’s High Mountain Distillery Releases Sawatch American Malt Whiskey
New Release of 4-year-old American Malt Whiskey.

SALIDA, Colo. –– December 3, 2019–– Wood’s High Mountain Distillery has released batch two of its newest whiskey expression: Sawatch American Malt Whiskey. This is Wood’s second batch of its 4-year-old malt whiskey made from a mash bill of 2-row malt barley, cherrywood smoked malt, chocolate malt, malt rye and malt wheat grains, aged in #3 charred new American oak casks and bottled at 98% ABV.

Sawatch Whiskey is named for the mountain range towering over Salida, Colorado with fifteen 14,000-foot peaks that provide the water used to make our spirits. “This is a big whiskey with depth and complexity inspired by the mountains we live and play in everyday” said PT Wood, co-owner and distiller. Tasting notes are rye spice, dark chocolate, oak, malt, toffee, oak, vanilla, subtle smoke, tobacco, hard candy and just the right amount of heat for a 98-proof whiskey. A big bold, spicy, example of American Malt Whiskey.
