The Glengoyne Teapot Dram Live Tasting! – Scotch Whisky News

Teapot Dram Batch No. 007 Live Tasting –

Until the 1970s, Glengoyne workers enjoyed a thrice-daily dram that flowed from a bashed copper teapot in the distillery canteen…

…Most distilleries gave their teams new-make spirit, but not Glengoyne. The finest whisky from first fill Oloroso sherry casks was chosen for the distillery workers’ drams. The less seasoned stillmen would, to save face, discreetly pour some of their untouched drams back into the copper teapot which sat on the canteen windowsill, ready for their older colleagues.

The coveted Teapot Dram series has been created in tribute to this old tradition, and we’d like to invite our global Family to join us online for a virtual live tasting: Introducing the latest expression in this limited edition collection of whiskies, Teapot Dram Batch No. 007!

On Wednesday 27th at 7pm GMT we’ll be broadcasting live from Warehouse No. 1 across Glengoyne.com and the Glengoyne Facebook page.

Robbie Hughes and Gordon Dundas will be on hand to talk you through the flavours bursting from limited edition (think tangy Seville marmalade, cinnamon, cloves and rich, dark cocoa), and will also be taking your questions across social media, so get your thinking caps on!

Teapot Dram Batch No.007 will go on sale at Glengoyne.com on the evening of the live stream, and is strictly limited to 3993 bottles.

Like the dedicated distillery workers of Glengoyne’s past, we think it’s about time you were rewarded for this year’s hard work, with a wee dram…

Want To Live Like A Master Distiller? Jim Beam Is Opening Its Home For Rent – A First-Ever Property Listing For The Iconic Bourbon Brand – American Whiskey News

Want To Live Like A Master Distiller? Jim Beam Is Opening Its Home For Rent – A First-Ever Property Listing For The Iconic Bourbon Brand

This fall, Jim Beam® Bourbon is opening its home and giving visitors the opportunity to join the family – by listing the first-ever rental property on the Jim Beam distillery grounds.

Beginning the week of October 21, select bourbon fans of legal drinking age will be able to book a limited number of stays at the Jim Beam® American Stillhouse, where they will live, eat and even sleep like the seven generations of Master Distillers, in a historic and charming Kentucky house overlooking nearby Everbach Lake on the distillery grounds. Guests will enjoy a variety of unique activities including a distillery tour and bourbon tasting, classic Kentucky barbecue meals and a look inside how the world’s #1 bourbon is crafted.

There’s no better time to experience bourbon country than during the cool, crisp months of fall, so we’re welcoming bourbon fans to join the Beam family during an overnight stay at our home in the rolling hills of Kentucky,” said Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s 7th Generation Master Distiller. “We like to say that anyone who visits us comes as friends and leaves as family, so we’re thrilled to welcome our extended family for some bourbon and Kentucky hospitality.

Built in 1919 with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, the distillery’s rustic house comes equipped with a fireplace, backyard with cowboy cauldrons and fishing docks. Once guests have learned how the world’s #1 bourbon is crafted, they can enjoy the other elements of the Stillhouse, including an original staircase from the Jim Beam distillery circa Prohibition, a bourbon bar with seasonal cocktails and dinner at Fred’s Smokehouse, which serves bourbon BBQ selections that are inspired by Beam family recipes.

Bourbon fans will be able to request to book a one-night stay on the distillery grounds in Clermont, Kentucky by visiting Fred Noe’s profile. Reservations will be available for a limited number of dates through the end of 2019 and each stay is priced at $23, the same price as a bottle of premium, extra-aged Jim Beam Black® bourbon.

Reservations are first come, first serve and very limited, so bourbon fans 21+ should be on the lookout to snag this one-of-a-kind opportunity. Guests will be responsible for booking their own travel accommodations.

OLDEST EVER BIG PEAT WITH A UNIQUE CASK HERITAGE UNVEILED – Scotch Whisky News

OLDEST EVER BIG PEAT WITH A UNIQUE CASK HERITAGE UNVEILED

The oldest ever Big Peat Islay Malt Scotch Whisky bottling is unveiled today by Douglas Laing & Co.

The family firm, established over 70 years ago, announces their Big Peat 33 Years Old Limited Edition of only 1,500 bottles – a marriage of Single Malts from Islay, finished in a unique combination of French Cognac and Spanish Sherry casks.

Packaged in a premium, textured gift tube with high gloss varnish and intricate foil detailing, the burnt orange and gold colourways give a subtle nod to the Cognac region. Designed to showcase “the more mature side of Big Peat”, “his” latest Limited Edition carries spirit distilled on Islay in 1985, with “a sweet smokiness and a charred meaty, Malted character at its heart”.

In line with the Douglas Laing family philosophy, the spirit within is proudly offered without colouring or chill-filtration, and at a natural Cask Strength of 47.3%.

Fred Laing, creator of Big Peat and Chairman of his family’s firm, comments:

“Having briefly experimented with the first ever Sherry finish for our Big Islay pal back in 2017 (for the Feis Ile Festival bottling) we received some phenomenal feedback and requests, nay, demands, for further such innovation. Knowing some of our Big Peat spirit (our stocks of Islay Single Cask Single Malt) was maturing nicely in a combination of former Cognac and Sherry casks, it was only a matter of time before we’d be tempted to answer those emails with this rather intriguing and timely European triangular connection!”

Big Peat 33 Years Old Cognac & Sherry Finished Limited Edition is available from specialist spirits retailers globally. Just 1,500 bottles exist, expected to retail at £250.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, detect sweet smokiness alongside ripe plums, brown sugar and juicy peaches. The palate bursts with phenols, red apples, smoky bacon and a meaty, Malted character. The finish is long, with toasted almonds, spices and orange marmalade on burnt buttered toast.
