anCnoc 16 Year Old 125th Anniversary

This Highland single malt from Knockdhu has been released to mark the 125th anniversary of the distillery. Matured exclusively in ex-bourbon barrels for its full 16 years, this expression has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.3% abv. The nose is fruity and sweet with a touch of vanilla. The palate brings more vanilla along with sweet butterscotch toffee and coconut. The finish is fruity and spicy with citrus notes.

anCnoc Peat

This Highland single malt has been distilled using barley peated to 40ppm. Matured in ex-bourbon barrels before receiving a second maturation in sherry casks, this limited edition expression has been bottled at 46% and released to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Knockdhu distillery – home of anCnoc whisky.

The nose has smoked oak and cured meats. The palate brings sweet caramel and toasted oak with a slight medicinal aspect, before a long and rich finish with notes of raisin and wood smoke.

CARIBOU CROSSING SINGLE BARREL CANADIAN WHISKY WINS GOLD MEDAL AT INTERNATIONAL SPIRITS CHALLENGE 2019

MONTREAL (Aug. 20, 2019) – Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky was awarded a Gold Medal at the International Spirts Challenge (ISC) 2019. Such an accolade from the ISC is regarded to be the most respected and sought after in the drinks industry, due to the stringent nature of the judging process.

Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky passed a scrupulous blind tasting by a world-renowned expert panel of specialist judges to beat strong competition to win the prestigious accolade of Gold. The quality of Caribou Crossing’s craftsmanship and liquid is reflected in this result.

Caribou Crossing is the world’s first single barrel Canadian whisky, it was launched in 2006 as part of Sazerac’s dedication and passion to revive the premium Canadian whisky category, and hand selected by world renowned Master Blender, Drew Mayville.

“We have been pleased with the continued growth and increased demand for Caribou Crossing Single Barrel since it was first introduced back in 2010,” said Adam P. Wilkins, associate brand manager. “Each barrel is meticulously hand selected by our Master Blender, Drew Mayville from our many barrels of whisky ageing in Canada. We are honored to receive this recognition from the ISC and it is a direct reflection of the caliber of whisky that goes into each bottle of Caribou Crossing.”

For the Tasting Awards, a highly controlled operation is held over 15 days of intense blind tastings by panels of more than 50 respected and experienced industry professionals.  Samples are delivered to the judging area in flights of numbered tasting glasses to ensure the accuracy of the blind tasting.  Each judge assesses products according to their age, region and variety which is then determined by the entrant and verified by the chairman.

Full results have been released and published on the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) website, www.internationalspiritschallenge.com with the full list of medal winners to be published in the ISC annual results magazine this month.

But these don’t come empty handed, all three expressions come with Gold medals from the prestigious IWSC. Peated took home the Gold Outstanding in 2018 (93 pts) while both Portwood and Rich Oak took home the Gold in 2019 (95 pts each).

RICH OAK – 46%

Matured in Bourbon casks and finished in a selection of the finest rejuvenated European ex-wine casks.

Nose: Dark chocolate fudge with cinnamon and pepper spices, followed by lush fruit – green apple, mango, banana, and guava.
Palate: Rich and complex. A creamy texture with hints of vanilla, oak, cinnamon, and a hint of nutty toffee.
Finish: A creamy vanilla flavor, which is in no rush to ebb away.

PENDERYN PEATED – 46%

This whisky has a delicate spirit with a medium peaty character and a light golden tone.

Nose: It introduces itself with sweet, aromatic smoke. Under this there are signature notes of vanilla, green apple, and refreshing citrus.
Palate: An array of gentle flavors tempts even the most sophisticated palate.
Finish: Smoke and vanilla linger on the attractive medium-length finish.

PORTWOOD – 46%

This Portwood-finished whisky is a firm favorite and a real attention grabber.

Nose: Aromas of rich dried fruits with dark chocolate and cranberries; a hint of toasty oak mingles with a baked nutty dryness.
Palate: A creamy richness with some honey and spiced notes emerging.
Finish: Smooth with a soft oak and honey sweetness lingering gently on the tongue.

Although we’re more than halfway into 2019, stay tuned for more surprises for Penderyn coming later this year!

Ardbeg Traigh Bhan marks the first time in 20 years that Ardbeg will release an aged whisky as a permanent expression, with the plan to release a single batch each year going forward.

Seductively smooth on the nose, before sudden, intense and rugged flavour notes come to the fore. Its exquisite taste crescendo is a rush like a surf of salt, smoke, sweet and sour. In fact, these characteristics are a reflection of the shores that inspired this expression.
