Diane Farrell named in Management Today’s 35 Women Under 35 list for 2019

Diane Farrell, Senior Site Manager at the Talisker Distillery is recognised in Management Today’s annual 35 Women Under 35 list, which celebrates a handful of the UK’s most impressive women in business.

At just 29 years old Diane heads up one of the world’s most renowned Scotch Whisky distilleries – the Talisker Distillery, situated on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. In her role she oversees the working of both the distillery and the visitors centre, leading an all-female management team at this iconic site.

As the custodian of this incredible whisky, Diane’s role sees her responsible for protecting its quality and heritage. This means managing 24 hours a day, seven days a week production process as well as an extremely popular visitors centre, where we welcome 75,000-90,000 visitors each year.

In celebration of International Women’s Day this year, we interviewed Diane as part of our video series. Watch Diane talk about how her ambition and work ethic combined with her family’s support have enabled her to overcome her self-doubt and run our Talisker distillery.

“I think the biggest obstacle is self-doubt. But it’s about recognising those inner voices, stopping them and turning them on their head so you just see the positives.”

Commenting on Diane’s inclusion in this year’s list, Pamela Scott, Global Operational Excellence Strategy and Standards Director, said:

“Diane is an inspiring young woman who leads one of Diageo’s flagship malt distilleries – Talisker on the Isle of Skye. She is a strong female role model and is currently mentoring other young women and inspiring the next generation to look at exciting opportunities within the whisky industry. She has an ambitious character and I am delighted that she has been recognised by Management Today in this year’s list.”

Now in its 18th year, Management Today’s 35 Women Under 35 is one of the UK’s longest-running, most prestigious list of young, female business talent. Diageo employees to also make the list include On Trade Sales Director for Diageo GB, Melissa Wisdom (2018) and Global Digital Director, Isabel Massey (2017).

Laphroaig 12 Year Old “Alexander Murray” Cask Strength at K&L California – Scotch Whisky News

Laphroaig

2005 Laphroaig 12 Year Old “Alexander Murray” Cask Strength Small Batch Single Malt Whisky (750ml) $99.99 View

Alexander Murray has been making some waves recently. They’ve used their buying power through large volume purchases for many of the country’s largest chain retailers to secure stocks of some very special and rare distilleries. While many of my suppliers are unable to offer me cask strength Laphroaig of any age for less than £100+ a bottle, Alexander Murray is putting small batch cask strength malt from Islay’s most flavorful distiller into the bottle for a bargin. After a little poking and proding, we were able to secure a special price and offer this exceptional whisky, in all it’s briny Islay glory, for less than $100. No other bottler is able to offer such incredibly high quality whisky at such a low price. This whisky is bottled without the addition of coloring or water and not chill-filtered. The batch of approximately 10 barrels was filled into refill bourbon barrels in 2005 and dumped just before their 13th birthday in 2018.

FIVE SAZERAC CANADIAN WHISKIES HIGHLY COMMENDED AT 2019 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE

MONTREAL (June 26, 2019) – The Ultimate Spirits Challenge, known for its judging methodology which raised the standard for competitive beverage evaluation, recognized five of Sazerac’s Canadian whiskies, highly recommending one, and awarding two as “Great Values” at the 2019 competition.

Royal Z1eY7uvg

Royal Canadian Small Batch Blended Canadian Whisky awarded Great Value, scored 90, and was deemed “Excellent, Highly Recommended.” Tasting notes: “Richly spiced nose with deep, sultry hints of maple syrup, pie tobacco, straw, and campfire smoke.”

Rich pYw5cQbw

Rich & Rare Reserve Canadian Blended Whisky also awarded Great Value, scored 88, and received a “Very Good, Strong Recommendation.” Extracts from the tasting notes: “Lean and fresh on the palate the whisky leads with oatmeal milk, vanilla, and baked pear flavors to come through.”

Caribou j6RD3M3g

Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky scored 88, receiving a “Very Good, Strong Recommendation.” Tasting notes: “A brooding nose with aromas of orange bitters and espresso is buoyed by a firm oak presence. What follows on the palate harkens to bourbon with an injection of rye complexity, bringing subtle clove and anise spice alongside creme brulee and bananas foster. Casually complex.”

High River DxDzmI3w

High River Canadian Whisky scored 87, receiving a “Very Good, Strong Recommendation.” Tasting notes: “A subtle and demure nose gives way to a medium-bodied whisky full of flavors of buttered biscuit, caramelized sugar, and vanilla bean. The finish is medium-long and consistent, making this an everyday whisky for may applications.”

Legacy mY87422B

Legacy Whisky scored 86, receiving a “Very Good, Strong Recommendation.” Tasting notes: “has a rich nose of leather, tobacco, and vanilla aromas. Flavors are exceptionally well-balanced between vanilla bean, cinnamon baked apples, lavender, honeycomb, and cocoa powder. The finish ups the complexity with a lingering peppercorn spice.”

During the 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge each product was evaluated by blind tasting panels in multi-stage assessments to remove any inherent or individual bias. Complete results of the 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge can be found at https://www.ultimate-beverage.com/
