American Oak *New Single Cask Releases* – Tasmanian Whisky News
Available now are two different casks of our American Oak expression: one 13 year old and one Old & Rare 17 year old.
American Oak is our most awarded style, the first Australian whisky to receive Liquid Gold Status in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible and along with our French Oak, it’s the only other Australian whisky to ever be awarded “Best Single Cask Single Malt” at the World Whiskies Awards. Aged in 200L American oak ex-bourbon barrels, every small bottling reflects the unique characteristics of each individual cask.
Today’s release gives you the opportunity to try either or both of these iconic Australian whiskies.
American Oak Single Cask TD0029
TD0029 was aged in a 200 litre American oak ex-bourbon cask for 13 years. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, this cask produced only 215 bottles.
“This malt is thick and creamy, whilst showing sunny stone fruits, bright floral notes, and a grounding grainy character. A truly textural malt experience.”
Heather Tillott, Production Manager
Old & Rare
17yo American Oak Single Cask HH0476
Cask HH0476 was distilled in September of 2000 and decanted in April of 2018 for a maturation of seventeen and a half years.
This 200L American oak ex-bourbon cask yielded only 151 bottles at 47.6% ABV.
Nose: Berries, waxy flowers, candied ginger, mandarin rind, brioche, a hint of floral perfume, and lots of pear.
Palate: An explosion of mandarin on a sweet vanilla base along with a bonanza of tropical fruits through in the mid palate. Top notes of pepper and pine forest keep things freshly balanced.
Finish: Vanilla, coconut and preserved fruits with a malty cocoa line that drives the finish and lingers almost indefinitely.
Each bottle comes in a unique, hand-made, solid oak presentation box, and includes a letter of authenticity personally signed by our Head Distiller, Patrick Maguire and Production Manager, Heather Tillott.
