Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 191: Laphroaig PX Cask

Mark Dermul, Belgian whisky blogger, tries the Laphroaig PX Cask.  This Laphroaig is triple cask matured: bourbon, quarter casks and PX, so why it is simply called PX Cask is a bit beyond Mark, but there you have it. Originally for the duty free range – it’s a 1 liter bottle – it is widely available now. And while it seems to work, it is not Mark’s favorite Laffie.

Diageo in 1999 – Johnnie Walker launch ‘Keep Walking’ campaign – Scotch Whisky News

Diageo in 1999 – Johnnie Walker launch ‘Keep Walking’ campaign

On 17 December 2017, Diageo turned 20 years old. To celebrate this milestone Diageo is looking back over 20 years of its history and highlighting memorable moments since it was formed back in December 1997. 1999 marked the launch of the iconic Johnnie Walker ‘Keep Walking’ campaign that transformed the brand as it was rolled out globally.

In 1999 Johnnie Walker launched ‘Keep Walking’ – the brand’s first ever global advertising campaign. This new global positioning transformed Johnnie Walker into a global leader and saw the brand grow from strength to strength. The pioneering campaign saw Johnnie Walker’s famous Striding Man icon change direction to appear to be walking forward, and was launched in every market around the world.

The first ever ‘Keep Walking’ TV advert starred Harvey Keitel and first aired in 1999.

First created in 1908, the Striding Man has become one of the world’s most recognised brand icons and is symbolic of progress for all those who enjoy Johnnie Walker.

To this day, Keep Walking uses the metaphor of a journey to deliver real stories of achievement. It inspires people to think of their own journey of progress – and do something about it.

As the biggest whisky brand in the world, Johnnie Walker and its slogan has been adopted and embraced everywhere, as a rallying cry for progress, as encouragement in adversity, as a joyful expression of optimism and as the best piece of advice you’re ever likely to hear.

Whisky Wednesday – Octomore 8.1 Masterclass – Scotch Whisky News

Octomore! The biggest, the peatiest, the most exciting, perhaps?  Welcome to the 8th season in this phenomenal run of experimental and diverse styles from the punk rock innovators, Bruichladdich. At a rather unusual age of 8, this whisky is show casing a few more delicate and balanced sides to what Octomore can do and indeed what can be done with it. A big hit of smoke and peat is what you expect, but hidden underneath it’s machismo and unparalleled power is a delicate hit of sweet and spirit-y styles. White chocolate, tequila, caster sugar and lighter, summer citrus notes of lemon and apple. There’s nothing to dislike about this whisky, it’s just a little beauty and if you view yourself as peat freak, get your gums around this thing and report back to me! Cheers.

Last but certainly not least, Exclusive Malts Irish ’03 13yr made it to Whisky Advocate’s Top 10 Winter 2017 Buying Guide! They are very selective when it comes to their recommendations, and they chose well.

And since it’s not too late to get a New Year’s gift, you can still pick this one up for your favorite Irish whiskey lover!

Impex3

This gorgeous whiskey has taken on a lot of sherry character from the refill sherry hogshead: cherry, prune, chocolate orange, baked pineapple chunks, and toasted spice. A good weighty structure boasting deep citrus intensity, with ginger and pepper snapping at its heels; a sensation only intensified with water. Lush fruits, butterscotch, and milk chocolate, with a finish of lively spices, stone fruits, and zesty orange muffins. (276 bottles) —Jonny McCormick

Lastly, we want to thank you all for being part of our family and partaking in this celebration with us.

We look forward to what 2018 will bring us!

Happy New Year!
