Tipperary – Watershed

Tipperary Boutique Distillery – Watershed has won a Double Gold medal from SFWSC!  “The San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) has become the most respected and influential spirits competition in the world.”

“We are extremely humbled and honored to have won a Double Gold medal from the prestigious SFWSC.  We knew going in that it was a home run, so I’m glad that the judges agreed.” ~ Sam Filmus, President of GRC Imports

Only six first-fill bourbon casks are chosen for each batch of Watershed, carefully selected for quality by the Malt Master, Stuart Nickerson. After being cut to 47% with Ballindoney water, every bottle is numbered individually, so each one is special.

Nose: Opens with strong vanilla and sweet fruit notes, followed by hints of grain.

Palate: Black pepper rises on the palate, overtaken by vanilla fudge and just a trace of raisins.

Finish: The smooth finish is warm and comforting, honey on hot buttered toast.

RRP: $70

Tipperary – Knockmealdowns

Tipperary Boutique Distillery – Knockmealdowns has won a Gold Medal at the 2017 LA Spirits Competition!  “The Los Angeles International Spirits Competition recognizes the finest in spirits, flavored and not, mixed and straight up. Celebrating its eleventh year, this budding yet distinguished event rivals senior contests with a cutting edge judging panel comprised of the discerning palates of mixologists, spirits journalists, esteemed bar owners and educators.”

“We’re very honored to win at the LA Spirits Comp. We went up against a lot of good brands in this category, and the judges deemed it worthy of a gold medal, which says a lot.  We hope this will be the first of many more awards, and with this win it certainly looks that way.” ~ Chris Uhde, Vice President of GRC Imports

The first of the Limited Edition Mountain Range, “The Knockmealdowns” is created from only 6 casks, matured in Ireland for 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels. The whiskey is cut to 47% with water from Ballindoney farm in Tipperary, owned by the co-founding family, the Ahearns.

Nose: Opens with fresh oak, developing into hot caramel sauce with notes of chocolate and vanilla.

Palate: Smooth and light, sweet honey cut through with citrus notes, then becoming savory, peppery and round in the mouth.

Finish: Lingers, oak with drying tannins and just a touch of ginger spice.

RRP: $100

Paul John Whisky at The Whisky Shop #SFO – Indian Whisky News

Paul John

Tuesday, August 15th 4-7PM:

Paul John Whiskey with Distillery Owner Paul John

John Paul whisky is a testament to the beauty of Goa, traditionally made in copper-pot sills, without artificial colours, flavours, or chill-filtration. The mash is made from a heritage variety of six row barley, harvested in the foothills of Himalayas. Goa’s tropical climate naturally accelerates the maturation process, taking an angel’s share of 8% per annum for its contribution. Their resulting whiskies have received multiple international awards, the most recent being Gold awards from both the 2017 World Whisky and Wizards of Whisky Award.

Distillery owner Paul John will be present, as well as distillery representatives and our own in-store whisky experts.

Whisky Wednesday Reviews Balvenie 14yo Peated – Scotch Whisky News

phil

https://youtu.be/0v904s8tyzQ

Well, you don’t often heard the words, “Balvenie” and “peat” in the same phrasing. This one however is a little different. What some whisky fans don’t know, is that all whisky is peated to some degree, unless stated on the bottle itself. Balvenie peat barley very heavily for one month of the year, this mainly goes towards blended whisky in the Grants range. But now, they’ve decided to release it! YES!! This thing is oddly complex and truly a delight to drink, the only real shame is that it’s only available in airports……Grants, release a non-triple cask version, because i’d be all over that like a rash! Enjoy!

The first 100 bottles of Israel’s first single malt whisky from The Milk & Honey Distillery to be auctioned off on the leading Scottish auction site – Isreali Whisky News

M&H1

The first 100 bottles of Israel’s first single malt whisky

from The Milk & Honey Distillery – Israel’s first whisky distillery

will be auctioned off on the leading Scottish auction site

www.whiskyauctioneer.com

from August 11, 2017 – August 21, 2017

After making history this past World Whisky Day by launching Israel’s first-ever whisky, Milk & Honey, the first whisky distillery in Israel will auction off 100 of the first and rare bottles, produced by head distiller Tomer Goren, together with master distiller, the late Dr. Jim Swan, on the Scottish whisky auction site whiskyauctioneer

The Milk & Honey – Israel’s first whisky distillery will auction off the first and rare 100 bottles of single malt whisky in Israel as part of a global online auction that will begin on August 11, 2017 and run for a period of ten days. At the auction, the first bottles will be sold as a special edition (1-100) of the “experimental series” of the first-ever single malt whisky produced in Israel.

Israel’s first single malt whisky by The Milk & Honey Distillery is the first whisky to be produced and bottled in Israel after being aged for three years in barrels. It therefore falls under the definition of whisky in Scotland and most countries around the globe. It’s the harbinger of what is yet to come; special Israeli whisky that’s mature for its age, thanks to aging in the warm Israeli climate. The distillation of the barrel was done at the distillery’s early stages – even before it moved to its current location in south Tel Aviv, before the current industrial equipment was purchased, and before the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The barrel was distilled in January 2014 at a kibbutz in the Sharon region, by head distiller Tomer Goren, together with internationally renowned master distiller, the late Dr. Jim Swan, as part of his role as consultant to the distillery at the time. Dr. Swan, who passed away at the beginning of February 2017, never got to taste his first Israeli masterpiece. Dr. Swan was considered an international expert on production of whisky in warm climates and served as a consultant to leading distilleries around the world, including the Taiwanese brand, Kavalan.

The liquid was aged for 30 months in a new, 225-liter American oak cask and then for another seven months in an ex-bourbon barrel in the distillery’s warehouse in Tel Aviv. Israel’s first whisky is, of course, kosher and in terms of its flavor, it is mature and complex for its young age. The first whisky to be produced in Israel is characterized by hints of malted barley, with soft notes of orange along with a delicate woodsy taste, cinnamon, lemon and marzipan. Flavor – light bodied, lemon and orange zest followed by the gentle spiciness of black pepper. An outstanding balance between gentle fruitiness and spiciness. Finish – long and slightly spicy, with lingering chocolate notes and delicate maltiness.

The public auction will be conducted over the well-known Scottish website whiskyauctioneer.com. Each bottle of whisky comes in a special box, is hand numbered and includes a personal parchment scroll. The remaining bottles of the single malt are currently offered for sale at select stores throughout Israel, distributed by Hacarem, with a very limited inventory.

About the distillery

The Milk & Honey Distillery is Israel’s first whisky distillery. The distillery produces high-quality distillates and is working on Israeli single malt whisky that will be sold commercially, with its first edition, the founders’ edition, sold entirely through a successful crowdfunding campaign and currently aging in barrels. It will be launched in 2019. All of the raw materials, equipment, barrels and processes were selected in order to ensure that the final product – be they white distillates or aged whisky – will meet the strictest and most uncompromising standards of quality and flavor, without any shortcuts on the lengthy journey until the whisky is rolled out: Training and consulting by the late Jim Swan – world-renowned mater distiller, who specialized in maturation in warm climates, equipment that was custom designed and ordered; fastidiously selected barrels; and selection of the finest raw materials available.

Enjoy Award-Winning Malts By Moonlight This Weekend

The Birmingham Whisky Club has teamed up with Thinktank Science Museum and Talisker to bring Birmingham a tasting of galactic proportions.

You don’t need to be an astronaut to get ‘up close and personal’ with the Moon this Saturday. This very special event will give the whisky curious an opportunity to taste through six incredible drams from the Talisker distillery, led by renowned whisky expert Colin Dunn, under the light of Luke Jerram’s incredible ‘Museum Of The Moon’ installation. With the whisky lineup including the brands 25 year old and 30 year old bottlings (the latter costing over £350 on its own), it’s sure to be an interstellar evening.

This event is being held as part of the ‘Museum Of The Moon’ national tour (now open at Thinktank Museum) and gives attendees an exclusive chance to enjoy the installation whilst the museum is closed to the general public. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound musical composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones. Created by artist Luke Jerram, the installation uses detailed imagery from NASA of the lunar surface to create a scale replica of the moon (approximate scale of 1:500,000).

Colin Dunn, Diageo Reserve Whisky Ambassador said: We are really excited to be working with The Birmingham Whisky Club to present this fantastic line up of whiskies in such an exceptional setting.

Talisker is the only Single Malt Whisky on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. I hope that presenting these whiskies alongside the moon will evoke the tidal and rugged landscape of where they’re produced and take the audience on a journey to Scotland as they taste through the selection.”

Amy Seton, Owner of The Birmingham Whisky Club said: “We are delighted to be working with Luke Jerram to showcase these amazing whiskies in an unusual and creative way. We look forward to welcoming Colin to Birmingham for this extraordinary tasting event.”

The exclusive tasting will be held on Saturday 5th August 2017 and there are two time slots to choose from (5:30pm – 7:00pm or 8:00pm – 9:30pm). Tickets can be purchased here. Prices start at £30 and include an expert led tasting through six different whiskies. Discounted tickets are available for members of the Birmingham Museums Trust and The Birmingham Whisky Club.

Bladnoch Talia 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Lowland

49.2%

In Stock And Selling Fast!

Bladnoch Talia is a 25 Year Old Single Malt which has just recently joined the range and is very limited with around only 600 bottles available worldwide.

For a distillery that celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2017, the Bladnoch story is only just beginning.

In Galloway, a collection of dark stone buildings sit perched on the River Bladnoch. With a rich history dating back to 1817, Bladnoch is one of the oldest Scotch Whisky producers in Scotland paying homage to rare Lowland Whisky.

After ceasing production for several years, Australian businessman David Prior purchased Bladnoch thanks to his passion for Scotch Whisky and a desire to restore the heart and soul of the local community and reinvigorate the brand.

Bladnoch Talia a 25 year old single malt with a new oak cask finish.

The tasting notes state that is has a mature nose of waxy, cedar, polished oak, ginger, vanilla with a spicy and silky palate with gingerbread, some honey, vanilla, sweet oak with a hint of Seville orange and coconut biscuity maltiness.
