Pulteney distillery in Wick is one of the most northerly distilleries on the Scottish mainland, producing maritime-influenced spirit since 1826. The distillery doesn’t rest on its laurels and is currently shaking up its range – join us for an evening of old favourites and never-tasted-before drams.

We’re thrilled to have distillery manager Malcolm Waring visiting from Wick for an evening of exploration. Malcolm is the man behind the whisky and is integral to every step of the production process – he knows the drams inside and out.

Malcolm joined Pulteney distillery in 1990. Since then, he has worked in every part of the distillery, from the maturation warehouses to mash house and stills. He worked his way up the ranks from brewing manager to assistant distillery manager, and has been managing Pulteney since 2006.

We’ll be trying:

Paul John Whisky at The Whisky Shop #SFO – Indian Whisky News

Paul John

Tuesday, August 15th 4-7PM:

Paul John Whiskey with Distillery Owner Paul John

John Paul whisky is a testament to the beauty of Goa, traditionally made in copper-pot sills, without artificial colours, flavours, or chill-filtration. The mash is made from a heritage variety of six row barley, harvested in the foothills of Himalayas. Goa’s tropical climate naturally accelerates the maturation process, taking an angel’s share of 8% per annum for its contribution. Their resulting whiskies have received multiple international awards, the most recent being Gold awards from both the 2017 World Whisky and Wizards of Whisky Award.

Distillery owner Paul John will be present, as well as distillery representatives and our own in-store whisky experts.

Buffalo Trace Distillery OPENS NEW E. H. TAYLOR TOUR, INCLUDES “BOURBON POMPEII” – American Whiskey News

OFC1Buffalo Trace Distillery OPENS NEW

 E. H. TAYLOR TOUR, INCLUDES “BOURBON POMPEII”

Sixth Complementary Tour Offered at this National Historic Landmark Distillery

FRANKFORT, Franklin County, Ky (August 3, 2017) Buffalo Trace Distillery kicks off its long-awaited tour to its famous “Bourbon Pompeii” on Monday, August 7th, 2017. Officially called the E. H. Taylor Tour, the tour will visit three sites at this National Historic Landmark Distillery, two of which have not been open to the public for touring previously. The tour will visit the Old Taylor House, a small white house built in the 1790s, which is the oldest house in Franklin County. Built by Commodore Richard Taylor, E. H. Taylor’s great-grandfather, the Old Taylor House has been a residence, a small hospital and a laboratory.  After it had sat vacant for a number of years, Buffalo Trace restored it a few years ago and now uses it for internal meeting space.  It has not been open to the public for touring until now.

The second stop on the E. H. Taylor Tour will be the much talked about O.F.C. Building, better known by its nick name “Bourbon Pompeii.” This building is a true historic gem in the chronicles of American bourbon distilling, with the original foundation wall built by Taylor in 1869, and then a second foundation Taylor built in 1873 when he set out to build the industry’s first “modern” distillery.  The fermenting vats inside were found intact and date back to 1883.  The foundation and the vats were covered with a cement floor when the building was decommissioned in 1958 and forgotten, until 2016 when Buffalo Trace began work on the O.F.C. Building to turn it into meeting and event space. That plan was altered upon discovery of this rare archeological treasure, although the upper levels of the building will still be used as event space as originally planned.  One of Taylor’s fermenters will also be re-lined with copper as Taylor had originally designed it, for usage in the near future. These are unique finds, and may arguably be called the oldest, most intact distillery in existence in the United States; as intact remains of early buildings and equipment on most distilleries are completely removed during development and expansion.

The third stop on the E. H. Taylor Tour will take guests inside Warehouse “C,” located across from the Visitor Center. This warehouse was built by Taylor in 1884 and is a beautiful brick and limestone structure that holds about 25,000 barrels.  All of the E. H. Taylor, Jr. line of whiskies reside in this warehouse, along with other brands distilled by Buffalo Trace. Taylor was known for his innovation and quality, which is evidenced by his inclusion of steam heat in the warehouses for the winter months, and the fine architectural details found in his buildings. Buffalo Trace still heats its warehouses to this day, (and is one of the only distilleries to do so) which forces its bourbons to receive a full cycle of aging year round instead of lying dormant in the barrel when the temperature dips in the 40s (Fahrenheit,) as it is known to do quite often in Kentucky winters!

After visiting Taylor’s barrel warehouse, guests will then return to Buffalo Trace’s Visitor Center where they will enjoy a complimentary tasting to round out their tour.  The new E. H. Taylor Tour will last about an hour and is complimentary. It will run Monday-Friday at 2:30 p.m. Reservations are required for this tour and can be made online here: www.buffalotracedistillery.com/visit-us/our-tours

Lord Calvert® Canadian Whisky Launches Second Edition of Ducks Unlimited Decanter

Limited Edition Decanter Launching Nationwide and Now Available Online

(St. Louis) August 3, 2017 – Lord Calvert® Canadian Whisky has launched the second edition of Ducks Unlimited decanter, available nationally in September. The attractive second edition design includes a yellow Labrador Retriever fetching a canvasback, the largest diving duck found in North America, in the water.

The brand announced a partnership with Ducks Unlimited, the world’s leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation, in 2016. The partnership showcases the strong Canadian heritage of both Lord Calvert Canadian Whisky and Ducks Unlimited, as well as their passion for the outdoors.

Each custom 750ml decanter is hand-painted and hand-filled with smooth and flavorful Lord Calvert Canadian Whisky for a SRP of $99.99. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be used to preserve waterfowl and wetland habitats across North America.

“Last year’s decanter was a success and sought after and we are pleased to continue our partnership with Ducks Unlimited and their mission to conserve and restore America’s wetlands,” says Fletcher Buchman, brand manager at Luxco. “In addition, we are looking forward to making these collectible decanters even easier for consumers to purchase and enjoy.”

The decanters – both the 2016 edition and the 2017 edition – will now be available for purchase online—unfilled— for consumers who would like to collect both editions. Consumers can find a link for purchase at LordCalvertWhisky.com. The 2016 edition of the decanter is available now for purchase and the 2017 edition will be available online in September. The decanters will sell for $65.

Lord Calvert Canadian Whisky is distilled in the heart of Canada, offering a smooth flavor with a touch of sweetness from a mixture of rye, corn, wheat and barley mash distilled and aged for 36 months. The brand recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
