AA Glenmo Mils

Glenmorangie Milsean
(Pronounced: “meel-shawn”)

$120/btl

Glenmorangie Milsean is a strikingly different single malt whisky which is sweet, spicy and spectacular, brimming with intense candied fruit flavors.  Its remarkable copper color is the result of its aging in very special casks which were created just for this whisky expression. The nose is sugar cane and sherbet, coconut, ripe melon and citrus too. There’s an almost thick buttery texture to it with hints of tingling spices and chilli, then luscious honeyed flavors followed by a mix of tart plummy fruit, candied orange peel, cherries, angelica and then yet more fruits: peaches, nectarines, plums and melon. The finish is considerable: long lasting and spicy, always with that complex sweetness in the background, suggestions of ginger, brown sugar, sweet tobacco and cake mix.  To produce these flavors in a single malt whisky Dr. Bill Lumsden, was firmly set on enhancing the sweeter notes in Glenmorangie Original, really bringing out the vanilla, the almond and the butterscotch. Inspired by traditional Scottish sweet-shops, Dr Bill began to dream of taking the sweetest elements of a whisky’s profile to a whole new level. To achieve this – many years ago Dr Bill decided on the type of wine casks he needed and placed a very specific order. He bought used Portuguese red wine casks and had them shipped to Scotland where they were re-toasted. A unique cask preparation that turns out to have been ingenious. Those casks, charred with live flame after their time with a bold and powerful red wine, deliver much sweetness, piquancy too, the re-toasting causing the sugars to deepen into the wood. AA Tusail

Glenmorangie Tusail – LAST CALL

$125/btl ~ $112.50 after discount

The 6th release from Glenmorangie’s award-winning Private Edition, Tùsail is the product of a carefully-selected parcel of Maris Otter barley, floor-malted by hand using traditional techniques, and non chill-filtered.  A rich winter variety of barley first introduced in 1965, Maris Otter was bred specifically to meet the demand for a high quality brewing malt and recognized for its ability to impart rich, rustic malty flavors. Now used only by a select few who continue, like Glenmorangie, to uphold an ethos of sacrificing yield for quality by using only the finest ingredients, the result is a whisky celebrating the variety’s renowned taste profile. Aroma: Deep earthy, robust aromas of malty, biscuity tones, with a backbone of nut toffee. Taste: A rich, rustic profile of nut toffee, sweet barley malt, ginger, cinnamon, and dates in molasses complements more familiar Glenmorangie notes of peaches, oranges and smoked pears. Finish: Tùsail lingers on with a mouth-coating finish. *Again – We will apply a 10% Discount on this bottle upon processing your order.

Once again this offer is while supplies of each item listed, lasts. Discount applies ONLY to ‘Tusail’ and CANNOT applied to any other bottles. We are not responsible for any typographical errors or the delay of the next Star Wars movie. Please contact the store with any questions.

in 130th Anniversary Year.

The Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown will host its most diverse programme to date for this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (28 April – 2 May).

The distillery, still owned by William Grant & Sons, the family company that founded it 130 years ago in 1886, will offer festival goers an enticing calendar of one-off -events ranging from BBQs and dinners to an in-depth technical tour of the distillery, the opportunity to create their own blend and put their noses to the test to discover if they have what it takes to be a whisky malt master.

The schedule caters for all interests and budgets with a number of free opportunities including a horticultural tour of Glenfiddich’s grounds guided by the Distillery’s head gardener.

Peter van Peborgh-Gooch, General Manager, Visitor Centers, William Grant & Sons said: “Glenfiddich Distillery is 130 years old in 2016 and we have put together a programme for this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival that highlights our heritage, showcases the fabulous whiskies we have on-site and gives a never seen before insight into how they have been created. There will also be the opportunity through a special Innovations Tasting to try some special and very exclusive whiskies from William Grant & Sons including Kininvie, Girvan Patent Still and Rare Cask Reserves.”

Ticket sales are likely to be brisk and so I’d urge local people interested in attending any events to make sure they book quickly.”

In addition to its 130th anniversary, Glenfiddich is also celebrating being the first Distillery to have its whiskies shortlisted in all three categories of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Awards.   Glenfiddich has been shortlisted in the 12 years and under and non-age statement category and the 13-20 years category with its 12 years old and 18 years old respectively, while the distillery’s 21 year old is a finalist in the category for malts over 21 years.  Judging of the Awards will take place throughout the Festival at various locations via blind tastings with the final winners being revealed on May 1st.

DIAGEO WHISKY TASTING – WEDNESDAY 16TH MARCH 2016

We’re starting off the new tasting year in style with Colin Dunn, Whisky Brand Ambassador for Diageo, who has always been a whisky hero to us and was recently named Scotch Whisky Brand Ambassador of the Year in Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky Awards 2016.  Passionate, knowledgeable and with his own inimitable style, an evening with Colin is always something special – and you never quite know what’s going to happen…

Colin will be selecting whiskies from Diageo’s large portfolio to present, and as this includes distilleries from the Highland, Speyside, Coastal, and Islay regions this is a great chance to taste and learn about a wide variety of styles.  Also in the line up will be a real treat in the form of two whiskies from Diageo’s very limited Special Releases of 2015 – the Caol Ila 17 year old (a more unusual unpeated version) and the Lagavulin 12 year old cask strength (an absolute beauty).  Plus Colin has promised to bring along something a little bit different for us all to try…

Tickets are £15 per person and will be available from 1.15pm on Tuesday 16th February via the website.  Please note, no bookings will be taken before this time and the maximum number of tickets per booking is 6.

See below for all the details and if you have any queries just contact us.

Federal Boston Single Malt Scotch Tasting Gordon & MacPhail Feb 18th, 2016 4:30 PM OR 6:00 PM – Scotch Whisky News

G&M LOGO CMYK Version1

Single Malt Scotch Tasting Gordon & MacPhail February 18th, 2016 4:30 P.M.  OR  6:00 P.M.

Next Thursday, we will host a tasting of Scotch single-malts from independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail with Chris Reisbeck (a familiar face to those who’ve attended the last few G&M tastings) and Joe Swanson, who, going forward, will be the presenting Gordon & MacPhail in the New England region. We will taste some very nice whiskies including two from the Glenburgie distillery. Most of the single-malt produced at Glenburgie goes into the Ballantine’s blend (you may remember that Ballantine’s 17 year-old won Whisky of the Year from from Jim Murray’s popular Whisky Bible in the 2011 ed.). Because of this, Glenburgie is not known by many and those that know it do not see it enough. We will also taste lowlander Bladnoch, which should delight. We will have a couple of Cask Strength scotches: Tormore, Highland Park and one more to round it out. With winter upon us it’s a fine time to come in and taste some malts, most of which will be very limited and all of which are wonderful scotches. We will have the full list and pricing which will go out in the email Monday or Tuesday.  The tastings will run for about one hour, please try to be prompt at either 4:30 P.M. or 6:00 P.M. and let’s give Joe Swanson a warm Federal Welcome and enjoy some fine whisky.

Yamazaki Sherry Cask – 2016 Release

This is the hotly anticipated 2016 release of Yamazaki’s Award Winning Sherry Cask matured whisky. Famous for the 2013 release which was described as ‘near incredible genius’ by Whisky Guru Jim Murray, the 2016 edition promises more of the same magic. Supply for this bottle was extremely limited, and the rumour mill suggests less than 200 bottles made their way to UK shores.

Storm Breakers – New Authentic Range – Scotch Whisky News

AA Cadenheads

AA Storm

STORM BREAKERS
New Authentic Range February 2016

It’s been a weird old winter here in London from balmy +13 deg evenings to -2 deg in a matter of days. SO it was a task to get the tastings done as you can imagine but we are not the kind of company to let things stand in our way. The new range from Cadenheads has a few truly one off vintages with a few that I know will make the average drinker think how do they do it? We also have one additional dram to add to last months small batch range and the return of a missing dram from the last decade! (How very odd you might be thinking)

Bladnoch Distillery 1990 25 50.7%
The first dram I would like to draw your attention to is the new rare vintage Bladnoch from the Lowlands. This is the first bottling and we expect high demand so don’t dilly dally if you require a bottle, we only have 1 delivery coming in so can’t keep bottles on hold indefinitely.

ORD 11y/o 60.6% vol
Next is a very rare – NO ORDINARY ORD. Amazing rich smooth with a flavour profile way beyond its 11 years. I am sure a lot of you will be thinking this is an odd age to release given the ages of the rest in this first major Authentic release of 2016. I can assure you this dram will not disappoint.
Nose: Quite rich way beyond it’s younger age with a rather complex rich toffee note that then gives way to more green notes with earl grey tea and honey.
Palate: Big and chewy from the moment it lands on the palate with rich caramel that coats the mouth with some great flavours including dark chocolate and dark cherries.
Finish: As we head to the finish we find red-currants come into play along with a soft flinty note and growing spice. A far more complex dram that the age would have you believe.

Auchroisk 27 1988 48.6%
Now we look at Auchroisk one of my top malts for richness, this is one I also like to add to the tasting room as a surprise dram (Giving the game away here)
Nose: Amazing rich nose of toffee, lots of syrupy fruits, lemon, mango and kiwi fruits.
Palate: So rich it’s impossible to narrow down a few notes but we can get some white chocolate, soft pastry notes and then more fruits to lift the palate from front to back and sides.
Finish: Truly stunning as it delivers lingering tropical fruits, becoming creamier and more orangey tones that go on and on with the return of a hint of rich white chocolate.
