The Box Distillery is about to release their second expression of their 2nd step series. A total of just over 5000 bottles were produced and only 2000 for the international market. We are lucky to have acquired some of these great whiskies

After the 2nd step 01, Smoke, the time has come to take a closer look at how Box sherry casks have matured. Ever since the initial months, Box have been busy on-stream filling both bourbon and sherry casks.

The main parts of the used casks are old Oloroso Sherry casks that have seen a lot of use. Most of them have been manufactured in Spain. The Casks are either 111, 200 or 250 litres. Age is essential in order for sherry casks to fully mature, therefore Box have chosen to balance the 02 with 48% bourbon stored whisky that’s been matured in casks that have previously contained Jack Daniels.

This acts to soften and produce a more balanced maturity that combined with the sherry casks, results in a complex and tasty flavour where both fruity sherry and the sweetness from whisky form part of the experience. There is also 8.5% peated whisky to add that little bit of character.
