The Macallan

The Macallan Distillery was established by Alexander Reid in 1824 near Easter Elchies House on the Easter Elchies estate. Easter Elchies House dates back to 1700. Macallan Distillery is a malt whisky distillery situated in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. The old still house was re-commissioned in 2008 and now Macallan Distillery operates with two still houses sheltering twenty-one copper stills. On-site maturation is carried out in traditional dunnage warehouses and by racking in large new warehouses on the estate. The Macallan visitor centre welcomes visitors throughout the year and offers distillery tours. The Macallan Distillery also participates in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

Compass Box Whisky “Please Support Our Campaign For Greater Age Transparency in Scotch Whisky.”

AA CB 1

Please support our campaign for greater age transparency in Scotch whisky.

Since launching Compass Box we have always tried to be as open with our customers as possible. However, late last year we were informed that the way we’ve been communicating the age of the components in our whiskies is illegal. By offering complete transparency around the age of every whisky we use, we have been breaking UK and EU Regulations governing the marketing and promotion of spirits.

It turns out that Scotch whisky is one of the few products where it is prohibited by law to be fully open and honest with consumers. We believe that Scotch whisky producers should have the freedom to offer their customers complete, unbiased and clear information on the age of every component used in their whiskies. That those customers have the right to know exactly what it is they’re drinking.

For these reasons, we’re launching a campaign today to change the current regulations – and we’re asking for your support. Please visit our website, read our proposed amends and – if you agree with our thinking – sign our Statement of Beliefs. Your support will help lobby UK and EU authorities to change the current regulations for the better.

With thanks,

Whiskymaker John Glaser

GLENMORANGIE MILSEAN – PRIVATE EDITION 7 – At The Whisky Shop – Scotch Whisky News

AA Whisky Shop Header

Glenmorangie Milsean – Private Edition 7

AA WS Milsean

Described as “The most exuberant private edition whisky yet”. This highly limited Glenmorangie Milsean has been crafted to replicate sweetshop flavours that are not usually apparent in single malt whisky. Red wine casks have been used in the final stages of maturation, which has helped make some of those sweet candy flavours possible.

Official Tasting Notes:

A thick buttery, oily texture with a hint of tingling spices and suggestion of chilli giving way to a sweet, luscious candy-like flavour followed by a mix of tart plummy fruit, candied orange peel, cherries, angelica and then more fruits such as peaches, nectarines, plums and melons.
