BLACK BOTTLE’S ‘OUT OF THE BOX’ FESTIVE GIFT SET – Scotch Whisky News

Black Bottle festive giftpack LR 1

BLACK BOTTLE’S ‘OUT OF THE BOX’ FESTIVE GIFT SET

From November the popular blended Scotch whisky Black Bottle will be available for a limited time in a funky gift pack with parts of the 750ml bottle literally presented outside of the box. It also includes two beautifully branded whisky tumblers. These will be available at Checkers LiquorShops countrywide for about R270 per gift pack.

Black Bottle offers a unique and ultra-versatile blend of top single malt and grain whiskies. Fresh and floral on the nose with whiffs of new-sawn oak and a hint of smoke, it opens onto a silky palate with delicate smoke and peat balanced by sweet oak and honey, to end on a lingering finish of spice.

As its name suggests, Black Bottle was originally sold in an opaque black bottle. Launched by the Graham brothers in 1879 in Aberdeen, Scotland, it soon developed a loyal following. The distinctive black bottles used were sourced from Germany. When World War I interrupted supply, the black bottle was replaced by a readily available green bottle.

Now, a century later, Black Bottle is back in black, celebrating its origins with a retro look and its original blend. The new design has been inspired by a black bottle found in the company archives dating to 1906, while the blend has been adjusted to reflect the recipe created in Aberdeen by Gordon Graham 136 years ago.

Laphroaig Mini-Tasting & Bottle Signing at Federal Boston Thursday November 5th, 2015 – Scotch Whisky News

federal-wine-spirits1

Laphroaig 200th Anniversary bottle signing and mini-tasting This Thursday, November 5th from 4:30 to 6pm

AA Simon

Laphroaig’s 200th birthday party keeps on rolling! Brand ambassador Simon Brooking will be in the house for a little while on Thursday to pop some corks, pour some whisky, and sign some bottles. Simon is a hugely busy brand ambassador and one of the best in the business. His knowledge, wisdom and passion is why he was voted Ambassador of the year from Whisky Magazine. He’ll be presenting two very special bottlings done for the bicentenary, the Cairdeas 2015 and the revamped and temporary 15 year old. Both of these are limited editions and you’ll have a chance to taste them and have your bottles signed by the man himself. These will make great gifts for the peat-lover in your life or just look really great as you gaze admiringly at them while having a dram yourself. The 15 year old was discontinued in 2009 and is being brought back this year for a short while. When this batch is sold out it will be gone — along with the 18 year old leaving a big hole in your life where mature Laphroaigs used to be. It’s got all the expected smoke you want from Laphroaig but balanced by a fruitiness and creaminess that’s incredibly charming. The Cairdeas was made exclusively with barley malted by hand at Laphroaig. It’s of a style which died out decades ago — oily, deep and complex — and is the most exciting limited bottling we’ve seen in quite some time. If you can’t make it while Simon will be in the store, you can reply to this email any time until 4pm on Thursday to place an order for a bottle to be signed. Let us know which and how many you’d like, and any special requests for signature, and we’ll do our best to fill them.

Laphroaig 15 year old $79.99, on sale for this event for $74.99

Laphroaig Cairdeas 2015 $84.99 on sale for this event for $79.99

NEW RELEASES FROM SPRINGBANK/GLENGYLE!! – Scotch Whisky News

Springbank Society

NEW RELEASES FROM SPRINGBANK/GLENGYLE!!

Firstly, just a quick update on the latest Society bottling. The bottling became fully reserved within 6 days which is a new record for a Society bottling so thank you to everyone who has ordered! Everyone who has placed an order should now have had a reply so thank you for your patience with this and I look forward to getting all remaining orders processed and sent within the next week or so. If you have emailed and not received a reply then please let me know ASAP.

In other news, we are releasing not one, not two but THREE new releases this week!! Before I tell you about them, please note that if you wish to order any of the bottles from us then you have to phone our shop directly on +44 (0) 1586 55 1710 (option 1). Each of the new releases is extremely limited and are likely to sell out within the first few hours so I will not be able to keep track of how many bottles the shop have.

Now to the details…the first new release is the 2015 version of our Springbank Green. This whisky is 13 years old, was made using organic barley and has been fully matured in sherry casks. It has been bottled at 46% and there are 9,000 bottles available for worldwide distribution. The retail price for the Springbank Green is £60.00 and unfortunately Society Members will not receive the 10% discount on this. The tasting notes for the new Springbank Green are:

Nose: Sweet cereal notes are accompanied with raisin butter, apple crumble, kiwi fruit and turkish delight.

Palate: The palate is fruity with raisins and orange zest to the fore. Marzipan, vanilla and soft sherry notes are also present.

Finish: A long, medium dry finish with classic Springbank sweet salty notes, along with hints of bung cloth and fig rolls.

The second new release is the 2015 edition of the famous Springbank 25 year old. This whisky has been matured in a combination of sherry and bourbon casks before being married together in port casks. It has been bottled at 46% and is limited to only 900 bottles worldwide. The price of the Springbank 25 year old is £350.00 and again, unfortunately there will be no Society discount offered on this. The tasting notes for the 2015 Springbank 25 year old are:

Nose: The nose is light and fruity with notes of red apples and blueberries. Honeycomb and milk chocolate provide a sweet creaminess, which combines well with traditional dunnage warehouse aromas.

Palate: Very well balanced with notes of toffee apple, brandy butter, liquorice, milk chocolate and honeycomb.  Finish: Long and bold with light spices and black pepper immediately recognisable against a backdrop of dried peat. Butterscotch follows up at the end.

The third and final new release this week comes from our sister distillery, Glengyle. As many of you will be aware, 2016 will be an exciting year for Kilkerran whisky as it will turn 12 years old and we will release that as the first core range product from Glengyle Distillery.

As a treat for our UK customers right now, we are releasing a special single cask bottling which was distilled in May 2006 and bottled in October 2015. The whisky has been matured in a calvados cask, has been bottled at a cask strength of 57.3% and is extremely limited with only 282 bottles available. The price of this bottling is £52.00 and again because it is so limited, Society Members will not receive their discount on this. The tasting notes for the new Kilkerran UK Single Cask are:

Nose: Green apples, grapes, pear drops, pineapple and barley sugar.

Palate: Barley sugar is fairly prominent. Rich and buttery with stewing citrus fruits and mint.

Finish: Long, dry with tobacco, hints of peat and earthy notes.

All three bottlings will begin arriving in stores this week and will be available in our Campbeltown shop from today (Thursday 29th October) and will also of course be available in our Cadenhead shops in Edinburgh and London as well as other retailers. In addition, our European Cadenhead shops will be receiving stock of the Springbank Green and Springbank 25 year old in the coming weeks.

Please remember, if you would like to order any of the above bottles from our Campbeltown shop then you must contact them directly as I cannot take orders for the three new bottlings. You can telephone the shop on +44 (0) 1586 55 1710 (option 1).

Many thanks and best regards,

Mairi

Glenmorangie A Midwinter Night’s Dram Whisky – Scotch Whisky News

the-whisky-barrel-new-logo-2011-1024x250

Glenmorangie
A Midwinter Night’s Dram Whisky

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

AA glenmorangie-a-midwinter-dram

$128.62

Glenmorangie A Midwinter Night’s Dram Highland single malt Scotch whiskey. This Limited Edition whisky is inspired by the great Scottish winters. Matured in Bourbon casks made from American white oak.

Aroma: Notes of orange marmalade, toffee, walnuts and mulled wine; tones of wine-soaked fruit, Christmas cake and a distinct whiff of musk or incense.

Taste: A rich, warming, peppery texture leading into myriad flavours of chocolate orange, ginger, walnuts, praline and some sweet butter candy.

Finish: A soft, medium strength, creamy finish, with further notes of malt biscuit and plump raisins.

Glenmorangie malt whisky Distillery was established in 1843 by William Matheson at Morangie Farm where distilling had been practiced as early as 1703. Glenmorangie is situated on the shore of the Dornoch Firth at Tain in Scotland’s Highland whisky region. Tall gin stills were installed rather than shorter whisky stills when the distillery was established and so Glenmorangie has ten of the tallest whisky stills in Scotland standing  5.14m tall. Glenmorangie Distillery has a visitor centre which offers distillery tours.

New K&L Signatory Vintage Now in Stock – Scotch Whisky News

  • 1995 Benrinnes 20 Year Old K&L Exclusive Signatory Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 750ml ( $99.99) In our opinion, Benrinnes might be the most underrated distillery in all of Scotland. We’ve purchased a number of casks from the Diageo-owned Speyside producer over the years and we’ve even taken a detailed tour of the space. In just about every interaction with both the whisky and the people who make it, we’ve been completely impressed in just about every way. That being said, the 20 year old cask that we pulled in this year from Benrinnes might be the best whisky yet. It’s a jaw-droppingly delicious single malt that brings big vanilla, big spice, loads of ripe fruit, and a creamy, soft mouthfeel for a screaming deal of a price. Two decades in wood at full proof for $99.99? If the label said Glenmorangie or Glenlivet instead of Benrinnes, you’d no doubt be looking at $180 per bottle or more, but the fact that this is Benrinnes cuts that price point right in half. The irony, however, is that we’d rather have the Benrinnes! The finish even flirts with a phenolic note and hints of smoke, despite the fact that Benrinnes doesn’t make peated whisky. Do not miss this whisky. It might be the best of this year’s Signatory crop.
  • 1988 Blair Athol 26 Year Old K&L Exclusive Signatory Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 750ml ( $179.99) Last year’s cask of 1988 sherry-aged Blair Athol from Signatory drove our customers into such a frenzy that we still get phone calls asking about it over a year later. The big, rich, caked-in-sherry flavor blended beautifully with the soft-fruited core of the Highland whisky’s profile, creating an absolute beast when bottled at full proof. We’re happy to announce to all those who’ve been begging us for more that we were able to return to Signatory this past Spring and purchase the lone sister cask to that beloved Blair Athol, bringing one last batch of that sherry-matured magic to K&L customers one last time. Whereas last year’s cask showcased all the sweetness and sugary spice that Oloroso sherry can offer, this whisky is much drier and earthier on the palate. It’s full of coffee bean, dried prunes, and burnt almonds, lingering far longer on the finish with a more dynamic finale of dried earth and savory splendor. It’s a fitting finale to one of the most talked-about and requested whiskies in K&L history. We’re happy we were able to send finish out the legacy with a bang!
  • 1996 Glenlivet 19 Year Old K&L Exclusive Signatory Single Sherry Butt Single Malt Whisky 750ml ( $89.99) The next round is finally here for one of the most-beloved Fall whisky editions in K&L history. We’ve been picking off these first-fill sherry butts of Glenlivet from Signatory ever since we first started visiting the Scottish bottler more than five years ago. While the vintage always stays the same (1996) the whisky gets older each time around! The most recent iteration has spent 19 years in cask, giving the whisky a dark amber hue and plenty of richness. The fudge and cocoa flavors from the sherry have sunken deep into the liquid, permeating it with spice cake, dried figs, and bits of ginger dipped in dark chocolate. Soft on the palate and smooth as silk, this whisky continues to get better as time goes by. Don’t wait around, however, because the annual Glenlivet Signatory release is also one of the fastest selling whiskies in K&L history, as well as one of the most popular. For your holiday parties or gift-giving needs, you won’t find a better whisky at a better price.
  • 1981 Glenlivet 33 Year Old K&L Exclusive Signatory Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky 750ml ( $399.99) When you’re talking luxury whisky in today’s single malt whisky market, you’re talking four to five-figure price points based more on age statements and brand names than on quality or flavor. In 2015, a bottle of 25 year old Macallan will run you $1200. So how is it that K&L can track down a single cask of 33 year old Glenlivet, aged in sherry, and bottled at cask strength for $399? Sometimes it’s best not to ask questions. We’ve done it, however. We’ve brought it one of the most impressive, crowd-pleasing, all-encompassing single malts of the year with this 1981 Glenlivet, and it’s everything you hope it will be. Dark caramel, Christmas cake with baking spices, fudge, candied ginger, and loads of richness that coat the palate all the way through to the finish. The question you should be asking, however, is: will one bottle be enough?
  • 1985 Linkwood 29 Year Old K&L Exclusive Signatory Single Barrel Single Malt Whisky 750ml ( $199.99) Linkwood is one of the most iconic Speyside distilleries not typically sold as a stand-alone single malt, and for good reason: Diageo needs every drop for Johnnie Walker and the various other blends sold by the spirits giant. Linkwood is considered by most blenders to be the ideal canvas, loaded with fresh fruit flavors, a flutter of grassiness, and plenty of weight on the palate. While younger single malt expressions typically bottled by independent labels can be quite enjoyable and perfectly drinkable, they often lack depth and complexity in our opinion. What’s missing is age. Wouldn’t it be great to see how Linkwood tastes after three decades in wood? Now we finally can thanks to this incredible little cask we found tucked into the corner at the Signatory warehouse this year. This 29 year old Linkwood is pure Speyside heaven, loaded with rich vanilla and caramel aromas that tease you into a second and third nosing. The palate is soft and oily, much lighter than the nose would suggest, with a touch of that grassy element coming into play on the finish. This is textbook Highland whisky, a whisky for Glenlivet and Glenfiddich drinkers who enjoy the classic flavors of single malt Scotch whisky, but are looking for more nuance and depth–something more out of the ordinary. For serious aficionados, this is a screaming hot deal. The cask had proofed itself down under 50% naturally, so we knocked another $60 off the bottle price by choosing NOT to take it at “cask strength”.

THE GLENLIVET NÀDURRA UNVEILS DRINKS TROLLEY BY BRITISH DESIGNER SEBASTIAN COX – Scotch Whisky News

THE GLENLIVET NÀDURRA UNVEILS DRINKS TROLLEY BY BRITISH DESIGNER SEBASTIAN COX

Watch or embed the ‘making of’ film using the following link: https://youtu.be/FDfPLAxy1VU

The Glenlivet, the single malt that started it all, has revealed its latest collaboration with British collective, The New Craftsmen, to support the launch of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish. Inspired by 19th Century processes and materials intrinsic to the Nàdurra range, modern designer-craftsman Sebastian Cox has used his signature inventive approach to working with wood to create The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolley.

From crafting using oak staves crafted from retired casks to leather oak tanned by hand,The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolleywas inspired by the traditional malt barrow used in the distillery to turn and transport malt to capture the spirit of Nàdurra, which means ‘natural’ in Gaelic. Cox’s creation will serve as an attractive, yet functional piece of design that brings the Nàdurra range to life.

The original creation will be on display for a limited period at The New Craftsmen store in Mayfair, London, after which time it will be relocated to The Glenlivet Distillery. A limited number of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolleys will be available to purchase ‘made to order’ from The New Craftsmen at a cost of £4,200 each, exclusively for those who have registered as a Guardian of The Glenlivet, the single malt Scotch whisky’s online members club.

Created as a complementary yet integrated component of the Trolley, The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Tray was created by Cox as an item that can also be purchased as a standalone piece. The Dram Tray is designed to house two glasses and a bottle for enjoying The Glenlivet Nàdurra at home. Inspired by The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish, the Dram Tray features peated oak and fits inside the main body of the Trolley, bringing the theatre of the drinking ritual to life. The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Tray will be available to purchase from The New Craftsmen priced at £120, also exclusively for Guardians of The Glenlivet.

Sebastian Cox commented, “The opportunity to work on an item that embodies The Glenlivet Nàdurra range particularly resonated with me following time spent with the craftsmen at the distillery. The importance and influence of wood on the whisky was fascinating to me and I took inspiration from this in creating both The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolley and Tray. I am pleased to present two unique, handmade items that embrace the complexities and sensual attributes of nature in a truly elegant form. They are truly representative of The Glenlivet Nàdurra range and hope they will inspire people to relish the ritual of enjoying a dram. ”

Nikki Burgess, Global Brand Director of The Glenlivet added: “This is the second year that we have partnered with The New Craftsmen – last year we commissioned designer-maker Gareth Neal to create The Glenlivet Nàdurra Dram Chair. This year, our aim was to build on this partnership to create two unique collectable items – The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolley and Dram Tray – which centre on the serving and drinking ritual yet added a wonderful theatre to it.  The partnership is grounded in a mutual respect for craftsmanship and has produced two truly special items that are made using pure and natural methods. The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolley and Dram Tray are surprising and unique, and are both timeless originals.”

The Glenlivet expanded the Nàdurra range in September 2015 with the addition of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish, complementing existing permanent expressions, The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso and The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection.  The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky CaskFinishis available in nine domestic markets, including USA and France, and Global Travel Retail, priced at USD$89.

Notes:

The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish Tasting Notes:

Colour: Amber gold

Nose: A perfect balance of fresh, ripe orchard fruit, sweet vanilla cream and delicate wood smoke

Palate: Notes of rich honey and subtle vanilla, with a sweet, tangy smokiness

Finish: Long and developed, with vibrant notes of fresh fruit and spicy smoke

Features of The Glenlivet Nàdurra Drinks Trolley include:

  • Cox’s distinctive wood ‘weave’ used for the cupboard panels and the Trolley’s large ‘barrow’ wheels made from oak staves from retired casks
  • A hand-blown glass vessel to hold ice and water by glass artist Michael Ruh featuring a copper spinner and floating wood shavings
  • Three bespoke rests to showcase the three expressions in The Glenlivet Nàdurra range with each one’s unique cask finish brought to life: new The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish rests upon 3,000 year-old Peated Oak, The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso is ‘cupped’ in warm hued Cherry wood, while The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection rests upon golden Medullary flecked American White Oak

About The Glenlivet Nàdurra

The Glenlivet Nàdurra is the purest expression of The Glenlivet that captures the original passion and production methods of George Smith’s distillery.  Each expression in The Glenlivet Nàdurra range is crafted in small batches using nineteenth century production methods and is matured exclusively in a different cask-type, showcasing the versatility and flawless quality of The Glenlivet spirit. Unlike most modern whiskies, the range is bottled without chill-filtration, which offers the additional complexity, body and texture of a whisky that has just been drawn from the cask. Twists on the original The Glenlivet Nàdurra include The Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso, The Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection and now new The Glenlivet Nàdurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish.

CHIVAS REGAL LAUNCHES THE VENTURE II

WITH OVER US$1 MILLION OF SUPPORT AVAILABLE FOR HONG KONG’S MOST DRIVEN CHANGE-MAKERS

Chivas Regal, the world’s original luxury whisky, today announced the launch of The Venture II – a global search for social entrepreneurs whose businesses and ideas use enterprise and innovation to inspire positive social change. Locally, The Venture II represents a renewed quest for Hong Kong’s most driven change-makers. The Venture was first launched in 2014 and propelled Hong Kong’s Diamond Cab to the finals in San Francisco, USA. This year, Chivas Regal Hong Kong will host a series of inspiring events in the lead-up to the selection of a finalist who will represent Hong Kong’s best social enterprises globally.

The Venture II is an initiative with an international focus on providing aspiring social entrepreneurs with US$1 million of financial assistance, global exposure for their company or idea, and support from world-famous business mentors. Chivas Regal will provide mentorship and financial backing to those who aim to succeed in business whilst making a positive impact on the lives of others. Up to 20 of the most promising social entrepreneurs from around the world will be invited to the Accelerator Week in Silicon Valley, California – home to some of the world’s leading start-ups. These finalists will meet with leading tech companies, receive mentorship from experts, and then pitch for a portion of the US$1 million in funding to create and advance transformative and positive social change.

The inaugural year of The Venture saw more than a thousand social entrepreneurs apply for US$1million in funding and sent Hong Kong’s Doris Leung of Diamond cab to the Accelerator Week and The Final Pitch event in San Francisco. During Accelerator Week, the 16 global finalists polished their pitches and engaged in discussions, hosted by inspirational leaders such as Moving Brands, Google, and Duarte. The finalists pitched the potential of their start-up to an expert judging panel that included actor and social entrepreneur Adrian Grenier. Algramo from Chile was awarded the largest share of the fund, receiving US$300,000 to further develop the pioneering food distribution enterprise.

Registration for The Venture II is straightforward.  Hong Kong applicants need to complete the registration form at http://www.theventure.com/. The Venture II is open to the public; it is not limited to those who own a company. The hopeful entrepreneur without a company can also pitch their idea by submitting a video (max. 2 min.) or a presentation deck introducing the business and describing how the business works. The business must aim to affect positive social change; such as a tangible contribution to the betterment of others, or our environment, etc. All applications must be submitted by November 20, 2015 (Friday).

On October 20th, Chivas Hong Kong will host a dynamic Town Hall discussion hosted by entrepreneur and philanthropist Yana Peel that will offer Hong Kong entrepreneurs the opportunity to gain specific and poignant advice from industry-leaders, and opportunities to meet like-minded peers and mentors. In January, five Hong Kong finalists will be invited to present their visions to a panel of judges, each of whom will evaluate the plan for its ability to create impactful social change through a financially viable business model that has potential to scale. The judging panel will consist of local leaders who have successfully navigated the business world. The business that demonstrates the most potential to remain successful while generating positive change will be showcased on http://www.theventure.com/. Here, applicants will be able to view short documentaries about other social entrepreneurs from around the world, providing insights into their success, as well as articles with advice and features about the business of ‘doing good’. Starting on April 2016, TheVenture.com will offer the public a chance to judge the finalists through voting and crowd-sourced funding.

Richard Black, Global Brand Director, Chivas Regal, says: “Chivas Regal has continuously invested their profits into others like them; those who are committed to making a positive impact on society.
