Teeling Whiskey Distillery Officially Opens Its Doors – €10m Distillery is the First in Dublin in 125 years – Irish Whiskey News

AA The Spirit of Dublin is Flowing

Teeling Whiskey Distillery officially opens its doors

€10m distillery is the first in Dublin in 125 years

State-of-the art visitor experience set to become a top destination for tourists

The Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) today officially opened its brand new distillery and visitor centre in The Liberties, Dublin. The €10 million distillery is the first in Dublin in over 125 years and the only fully operational distillery in the city at present.

As well as fully functioning distillery, there is a state-of-the-art visitor centre which will host whiskey tasting tours, a café, a bar, a private event space for hire and a gift shop. The visitor centre will officially start taking paying visitors from Saturday, 13th June and will be open from 9.30am – 5.30pm 7 days a week.

Founded by Jack Teeling in 2012, TWC was set up to revive his family-old trademark of Irish whiskey and bring distilling back to Dublin, where Walter Teeling had a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in the 18th century.  The Teeling Whiskey Company is run by Jack together with his brother Stephen.

The opening of this new distillery means that TWC has complete control of all aspects of its whiskey production, from grain to bottle, so that it can truly lead the category in terms of innovation and build on the company’s ever growing reputation of producing some of the world’s best whiskeys. Most recently, Teeling Single Malt was named ‘World’s Best’ at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards and Teeing Small Batch was awarded ‘Best Blended Irish Whiskey’ at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Irish whiskey is currently experiencing a surge in popularity both at home and abroad and is the fastest growing spirits category in the world. According to an IWSR/Just drinks report*, Irish whiskey is expected to grow by +60% between 2014 and 2019 and it is estimated that 96m bottles of Irish whiskey will be sold globally by 2016.

Jack Teeling, founder and managing director of the Teeling Whiskey Company commented: “Today is a momentous day in the history of our company and something we have been working towards for the last three years. We are delighted to officially open our brand new distillery and bring back the tradition of distilling to Dublin.  We are also looking forward to opening our doors to our first official visitors this weekend and we’re confident that our distillery will become a must-visit destination for tourists to Dublin from all over the world.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

TEELING WHISKEY HERITAGE AND THE WHISKEY HERITAGE OF THE LIBERTIES

The Teelings have being crafting Irish whiskey since 1782 when Walter Teeling had a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in The Liberties of Dublin. At this time there were over 37 different distilleries in Dublin alone in particular centralised in the industrial engine room of the city: The Liberties; the Coombe, Newmarket and Smithfield.

During the 19th century Dublin whiskey became globally recognised as the premier whiskey in the world and some of the largest distilleries of the time emerged from these smaller operations in Dublin’s Liberties.  The remains of many of these can still be seen to this day however in 1976 the last Dublin distillery shut down with production moved to Midleton, Cork.

ABOUT THE TEELING WHISKEY COMPANY

The Teeling Whiskey Company was founded by Jack Teeling in 2012 to bring back an independent voice to the Irish whiskey category.  His brother Stephen Teeling joined him in 2013 as Sales & Marketing Director and is a co-owner in the business. The Teeling Whiskey Company aims to be Ireland’s leading independent Irish whiskey producer driving category choice and innovation through a selection of unique handcrafted small batch Irish whiskeys.

ABOUT THE TEELING DISTILLERY VISITOR CENTRE

Will be open 7 days a week from 9.30am-5.30pm and will host guided tours of the only operational distillery in Dublin city. The tour will involve seeing all the elements involved in whiskey production from barley to milling to fermentation right up to 3 custom made copper pot stills. All tours will receive a measure of Teeling whiskey with an accompanying pre-prohibition style cocktail. There are a variety of options for whiskey tasting experiences involving an upgrade to a Teeling Trinity tasting or taste the award winning range of Teeling Single Malts. The visitors can enjoy a second drink at the ‘Bang Bang Bar’ or purchase distillery exclusive items in the gift shop. There is also a café available where people can taste locally roasted 3FE coffee or relax with some freshly baked pastries or sandwiches.

WHISKY GALORE IN EDINBURGH AS PREVIOUSLY PRIVATE CLUB OPENS TO ALL – Scotch Whisky News

The Scottish Malt Whisky Society

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s once members-only venue at 28 Queen Street in capital to permanently open to public

Once accessible to members only, the spectacular treasure trove of whiskies at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s venue at 28 Queen Street, Edinburgh will now be permanently open to everyone.

The elegant Georgian townhouse in the capital’s New Town is home to the UK’s largest collection of single cask whiskies and will now be a must-visit destination for local whisky fans, and visiting spirits enthusiasts from all over the world.

The Society is an award-winning whisky bottler and international membership club which each month releases more than 20 single cask whiskies. Since it was founded in 1983 in Edinburgh, it has bottled whisky from more than 130 different distilleries in Scotland and around the world, in addition to other spirits such as rum and Bourbon.

Opening 28 Queen Street to all:

The 28 Queen Street venue has previously been open to non-members on a temporary trial basis – these trials proved so successful that it will now be permanently open for everyone to discover the largest collection of single malt whisky in the UK. Non members will now be able to use the bar and sample exclusive drams – though only members can buy bottles of Society whisky.

The Society’s other venue in Edinburgh, The Vaults in Leith, will continue to operate as a members-only venue – as will its venue in London at 19 Greville Street in Farringdon.

28 Queen Street, which first opened in May 2004, is a an elegant Georgian townhouse spread across 4 floors – it comprises of:

  • A whisky bar on the first floor with an unrivalled selection of malts
  • The Dining Room restaurant on the ground floor
  • Event and meeting spaces on the second and third floors

Paul Miles, Managing Director of The Society, said: “Members have already discovered the joys of the Society and opening 28 Queen Street permanently for everyone is a great opportunity for others to enjoy the unrivalled array of whisky we have on offer.”

“These are very exciting times for the whisky industry and the Society. With exceptional new whiskies and other spirits released monthly, there has never been a better time to visit 28 Queen Street or join the Society.”

Opening plans – 12 Tub Cinema Club:

The Society is celebrating opening its 28 Queen Street venue to all by staging the 12 Tub Cinema Club, a series of intimate film screenings served with a range of 12 specially created whisky ice creams, called ‘Ice Dream Drams’.

Each of the classic films showing at the 12 Tub Cinema Club from Friday 19th June to Saturday 11 July will have a whisky link, such as The Angels’ Share and Whisky Galore. Guests can take their pick from the Society’s menu of ‘Ice Dream Drams’, 12 flavours of whisky ice cream created in collaboration with renowned Edinburgh ice cream makers, S Luca.

The ice creams reflect the Society’s flavour-based approach to whisky. The Society categorises its whiskies by flavour, rather than by conventional whisky regions, using 12 unique whisky flavour profiles such as Oily & Coastal; Spicy & Sweet; and Young & Spritely. The ice creams include:

  • Maple Bacon Crunch – sweet syrup and smoky bacon flavours combined with Peated whisky
  • Banana-Dram-A – banana and marshmallow ice cream made with a Sweet, Fruity and Mellow whisky
