HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERIES TO CONTINUE PERIODIC RELEASES OF ELIJAH CRAIG BARREL PROOF BOURBON – American Whiskey News
HEAVEN HILL DISTILLERIES TO CONTINUE PERIODIC RELEASES OF ELIJAH CRAIG BARREL PROOF BOURBON
Combination of high quality, true barrel proof and scarcity have made the bottling a much sought-after rarity
LOUISVILLE, KY—Heaven Hill Distilleries, producers of Elijah Craig 12-Year-Old Barrel Proof Bourbon, are planning a third release of the rare and highly acclaimed bottling during 2014, and are planning three more releases during 2015, the company announced today. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, originally released last year as a limited-edition companion to the mainline Elijah Craig Small Batch 12-Year-Old, will become a recurring but still highly allocated item in Heaven Hill’s American Whiskey Collection portfolio, all drawn from Heaven Hill’s vast inventory of aging barrels, the second largest in the world.
Unlike several other competitive products who bottle at a “standardized” barrel proof of, for example, 125°, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is a true barrel proof, with each batch reflecting the actual proof of the small batch of 100 or fewer barrels that make up each “dump.” There were three releases in 2013—at 134.2, 137 and 133.2 proof—one March 2014 release at 132.4 proof, and one May 2014 release at 134.8 proof. Heaven Hill plans on beginning shipments of the third and final dump of 2014 in September, and will release the first edition of 2015 in January.
In just its first year, the brand has captured numerous prestigious awards—including “Double Gold” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, “Extraordinary/Ultimate Recommendation” from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, and “Best Bourbon, Best Brown Spirit in Show” at this year’s WSWA Convention Spirits Tasting Competition. It has also become something of a cult whiskey among Bourbon aficionados, with the combination of extraordinary quality, scarcity and value making it the object of many Bourbon want-lists. It is also a hot topic on Bourbon and American Whiskey forums and blogs.
“We knew beforehand—given the remarkable quality of the small batch dumps, the very allocated nature of the distribution, and the approachable price point for a cask strength 12 year old Bourbon—that Elijah Craig Barrel Proof was going to be real draw for the whiskey aficionado crowd, but the fervor and passion that customers show always amazes us,” said Susan Wahl, Senior Brand manager, Whiskeys, at Heaven Hill. “We are pleased, given this popularity and the overall unprecedented demand for Bourbon, that we are able to continue with releases of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for the foreseeable future.”
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof will continue to be bottled in the 750ml size and will be available at a suggested national retail price of $44.99.

Mark Dermul, Belgian Whiskyblogger, loves Ardbeg. Who does not love Ardbeg? It is such a popular brand, often quite hyped, but then their whisky is outstanding as well. It is harder to find Ardbeg with independent bottlers and harder still to find sherry matured Ardbeg. Hence it is a great pleasure for Mark to try the Ardbeg 20 Year Old 1993 bottled by A.D. Rattray from a single sherry hogshead. It was released especially for the Belgian retailer Jurgen’s Whiskyhuis and one of the best Ardbeg he has tried to date.

Teeling Whiskey Starts Work on First New Dublin Distillery in over 125 Years – Irish Whiskey News
Teeling Whiskey Starts Work on First New Dublin Distillery in over 125 Years
Reviving the Spirit of Dublin – new distillery to create over 30 new permanent jobs in Dublin’s Liberties
Monday, 11th August – The Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) has announced that work has commenced on their new whiskey distillery located in Dublin’s Newmarket in The Liberties, Dublin 8. Bringing the Teelings home to their ancestral roots, this is the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years and will be a modern revival of the family distillery that thrived in the area in the 18th century.
The Teeling Whiskey distilling equipment is scheduled to arrive in October and commissioning of the distillery will commence before the end of this year. There will be more than 100 people employed during the construction of the distillery with 30 permanent jobs created following its completion.
Jack Teeling, Founder and Managing Director of the Teeling Whiskey Company commented “We are proud to be returning to our ancestral distilling roots which trace back to 1782 in The Liberties. This project brings distilling back to an area of Dublin long associated with world class whiskey which, at one stage, had 37 different operational distilleries and was known as the ‘Golden Triangle’ due to the cluster of Irish whiskey manufacturers in one small area. Dublin whiskey was at the forefront of the last golden age of Irish whiskey. We aim to revive the Spirit of Dublin by putting Dublin and Teeling Whiskey firmly back on the map again.”
The Teeling Whiskey brand is already on sale in Ireland and is now in over 25 export markets. The construction of the new distillery will guarantee future supply for the Teeling Whiskey brands and allow the creation of a range of innovative and authentic Irish whiskeys based on the traditional and unique Dublin style of distillation.
The new pot still distillery will have the capacity to produce 500,000 litres of whiskey on an annual basis and will consist of three traditional copper pot stills reviving the traditional style of the old Dublin distilleries. In addition, the visitor centre will become a true Dublin destination; providing an experiential journey into the history of Teeling Whiskey, the whiskey heritage of the Liberties, the unique Dublin whiskey distilling process and whiskey tasting.

NOTES
TEELING WHISKEY HERITAGE AND THE WHISKEY HERITAGE OF THE LIBERTIES
The Teelings have being crafting Irish whiskey since 1782 when Walter Teeling had a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in The Liberties of Dublin. At this time there were over 37 different distilleries in Dublin alone in particular centralised in the industrial engine room of the city: The Liberties; the Coombe, Newmarket and Smithfield.
During the 19th century Dublin whiskey became globally recognised as the premier whiskey in the world and some of the largest distilleries of the time emerged from these smaller operations in Dublin’s Liberties. The remains of many of these can still be seen to this day however in 1976 the last Dublin distillery shut down with production moved to Midleton, Cork.

Port Ellen 31 year old Platinum Selection Old and Rare at The Whisky Shop – Scotch Whisky News
Port Ellen 31 year old Platinum Selection Old and Rare
This Port Ellen Expression is one of the rarest of its kind.
Distilled in September 1982 and bottled in July 2014 at a natural cask strength of 45.9% volume. This 31 year old Port Ellen is one of only 29 bottles filled from a Refill Hogshead.
Each bottling of Old & Rare has been matured to perfection, so due to the angels’ share there are comparatively few examples to emerge from each cask. Presented in a highly distinctive squat bottle, each expression comes beautifully packaged in a specially crafted wooden box. The personal tasting notes of our expert “nose” are included to complement the views of each individual taster. It goes without saying that each expression remains without chill-filtration or colouring.
Coppersea Distilling Is First “100% New York” Bourbon & Rye Using New York State Barrels – American Whiskey News

Coppersea Distilling is first “100% New York” bourbon and rye using New York State barrels
Coppersea Distilling, the Heritage-Methods craft distillery in West Park, New York, has filled the first whisky barrels made from New York State-grown white oak since prohibition; built by a New York cooperage, U.S. Barrel Company. These two inaugural barrels were filled with bourbon and rye whisky.
The bourbon is the first to be matured in New York State oak since the U.S. recognized that spirit as a “distinctive product of the United States” in 1964.
Founded in 2011, Coppersea Distilling is one of the few distilleries in the world capable of bringing nearly the entire whisky-making process in-house. This New York farm distillery produces ultra-premium whiskies and eaux de vies from Hudson Valley-sourced corn, rye, barley and fruits using Heritage-Methods distilling traditions: open wooden fermenters, direct-fired copper-pot stills, sour-mashing and floor-malting.
