Glenturret Distillery has appointed Stuart Cassells as new General Manager, former frontman of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Stuart is currently tuning up the team for our supporting role in the Commonwealth Games – The Famous Grouse, Scotland’s favourite blended whisky, is Official Whisky Provider for the games and The Famous Grouse Experience, as it’s spiritual home, the official whisky tour provider.

Don’t put your scotches away just because it’s warm!
Though we tend to think scotch is a drink to warm up with in winter, there are versions that are refreshing for summer, neat or on the rocks.

THE FAMOUS GROUSE RELEASE LIMITED EDITION
COMMONWEALTH GAMES WHISKY FOR GLASGOW 2014
As the official whisky provider to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, The Famous Grouse, distributed by Maxxium UK, has released a limited edition single malt to mark their sponsorship of this momentous sporting event.
The whisky brand, which is the number one selling whisky in Scotland and the UK, has announced it will release a special Commonwealth Games bottling of Glenturret 1986 Cask Strength single malt. This limited edition run will see only 1,800 bottles available for purchase making it a true collector’s edition among whisky enthusiasts and sporting fans alike.
Glenturret single malt is one of the core ingredients of The Famous Grouse blend and Master Blender Gordon Motion has handpicked this deluxe whisky – which was laid down to age in oak casks in 1986, the year that Scotland last hosted the Commonwealth Games – in celebration of this landmark year for Scotland.
Commenting on why he handpicked this particular single malt whisky Gordon Motion said:
“We are extremely proud to be the Official Whisky of Glasgow 2014 and wanted to mark this momentous occasion with what we do best – whisky.
“When deliberating what to release it became apparent that Glenturret 1986 was the ideal choice and very timely. Glenturret is not only integral to The Famous Grouse blend but this batch was laid down to age in oak casks 28 years ago, the very year the Commonwealth Games last visited the home of Scotch whisky.
“This exceptional whisky gives off notes of fresh mango and passion fruit to nose with sweet honeycomb and melon to taste.
“So why not, pour a dram, raise a toast to Glasgow 2014 and be part of something famous.”
The Famous Grouse will have a strong presence in Glasgow’s on and off-trade in the run up to and during the Games with over 200 of the city’s bars signed up to receive on-trade kits. Point of sale will also go into retail outlets driving visibility of the Commonwealth Games sponsorship.
Peter Sandstrom, Marketing Director Maxxium UK, added:
“As the Official Whisky of Glasgow 2014 we are looking forward to what will be an awe-inspiring Commonwealth Games. The Famous Grouse believes there’s a joy to participating in something bigger than ourselves – of being part of something famous – and that the same spirit is present at the very core of the ‘friendly games’.”
Personalisation also continues to be a key focus for the band with live labelling available in selected stores during the Games. The leading whisky brand launched a new personalisation mechanic earlier this year which enables consumers to add a personal photograph to their bottle, free of charge by visiting www.makesomeonefamous.com.
The whisky brand’s sponsorship of the Commonwealth Games builds on their already strong sporting links, working with the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) as their Official Whisky partner for over 24 years. More recently it announced sister brand, Ginger Grouse, as the Official Pint Partner of endurance race, Tough Mudder.

The Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship 2014
Do you like whisky?
Can you pick a Laphroaig from a Lagavulin? How about a Glenfiddich from a Glenmorangie? On Saturday 26th July, whisky enthusiasts from all over Australia will fly in to compete in the annual Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship. A major event on the Australian whisky calendar ever since 1989, this year a huge number of competitors and a large number of spectators will gather in the Dinosaur Gallery at The Australian Museum in Sydney to put their tastebuds to the test and find out who will be the newly-crowned Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Champion. This is the chance for whisky nerds and novices alike to test their mettle in the struggle for single malt tasting supremacy.
Competitors have 30 minutes to assess the eight whiskies poured before them in a blind-tasting format. Each competitor is provided with a list of nine possible whiskies – the eight on the table, plus one red herring. The task is to correctly identify which whisky is which.
Following the competition, there will be a cocktail party for all competitors and spectators with some specially crafted hot and cold whisky cocktails, and some Scotch Malt Whisky Society rare and exclusive single cask single malts. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society will be on hand to discuss everything from the future of the single malt industry to a five step guide to buying the perfect bottle.

Notes:
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society began in the late 1970’s when a group of discerning friends in Edinburgh bought a single cask of malt whisky and shared it amongst themselves. The group of friends grew and grew, with subsequent cask purchases, and in 1983, the group syndicated as a Society.
Today, the Society has over 26,000 members around the world with branches in 17 countries. It bottles over 350 single casks a year for its members from a range of more than 129 distilleries.
Members can choose from the world’s widest selection of single cask, single malt whiskies with only the very best selected and approved by the Society’s respected Tasting Panel.
The Society has been active in Australia since 2002, holding extremely popular and well-attended frequent whisky tasting nights in each of the capital cities around Australia all through the year for both its members and the general public.
The Australian Malt Whisky Tasting Championship is a blind tasting competition that has been run in Australia since 1989. It was held annually in Adelaide from 1989 until 2002, then was in recess for six years until The Scotch Malt Whisky Society resurrected the competition in 2008. It is open to national and international competitors, and is now an annual event held in Sydney and hosted by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
Official photographs from the event will be available on request.

Here are some full flavored, half-bottles of whiskey at the Park Avenue Liquor Shop
It’s not the size of the bottle. It’s the spirit within.
A few years ago, our friends at Tuthilltown Spirits in the Hudson Valley – started bottling American whiskey in 375ml bottles. The bottles themselves were conversation starters but whiskey drinkers soon discovered that the whiskey itself was equally unique. Now we present to you, some more half-bottles of American whiskey that we feel are deserving of your attention as well as your palate.
Thanks for taking a look.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Cheers!

Defiant Rye
“Rye whiskey – the first whiskey to be distilled on this continent – became a defiant spirit in every sense during the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791, when the farmers who made it rebelled against our new government’s attempt to tax it. It was this heroic act of defiance that forever defined and ensured our cherished right to protest. The tax eventually stood, but the rebels’ spirit lives on in this Defiant Rye.”

Fearless Wheat Whiskey
Tasting Notes by Heather Green from The Flatiron Room in New York City
It has a warm amber color with aromas of pears, apples, french vanilla, lemon and honeysuckle. On the palate is more pear with cream, a hint of honey and a burst of spice. There’s also some dark-chocolate covered oranges on its bold finish.
As it says right on the label – this is, “The Really Good Stuff.”

Five Fathers Pure Malt Rye
This limited edition rye bottling contains over 100 years of Pogue family history along with 55% alc./vol and the peppery notes that offer the discerning patron a robust product. Five generations after their forefather founded the H.E. Pogue Distillery in Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky, in 1876, they are proud to continue their family legacy with Five Fathers. Produced using one of the Pogue family’s original recipes and on the same ground as the original H.E. Pogue distillery, Five Fathers honors the tradition and heritage of its namesake. We feel this is a fitting tribute to their forefathers,
the Five Fathers.
