Nose: Rich and luxurious on the nose with layers of oaky vanilla, creamy toffee and cinnamon. With a little water there are subtle citrus and marmalade notes.

Palate: Velvety smooth with an incredibly sweet flavour. Crème Brulé, toffee apple, nutmeg and an intriguing citrus note. With time the flavour evokes into deeper, richer notes including chocolate orange and baked apple pie.

Finish: Lingering sweetness

It’s matured in first-fill American White Oak which adds flavour, character, colour and complexity.

Malt Messenger Bulletin – Our Annual Fall Sale is this Weekend! – Scotch Whisky News

KWM-Header

Last week was Whisky Week, and what a week it was with tastings from Jamie MacKenzie and Iain MacCallum of Morrison Bowmore, James Robertson of Tullibardine, Ranald Watson of Springbank, Anthony Wills of Kilchoman, Micheal Urquhart of Gordon & MacPhail Benromach and last but not least George Grant of Glenfarclas. We have many exciting new whiskies to show from these tastings, and a few more introduced at last night’s sold out Fall Single Malt Festival.

It was our 7th or 8th Fall Single Malt Festival last night, truthfully I can’t recall exactly how many we’ve done. It was another fabulous event with more than 125 whiskies on offer. We introduced a new range of whiskies from Master of Malt, there were some new expressions of Kavalan from Taiwan, Gordon & MacPhail, Cadenhead, Tomatin, Adelphi, Glenfarclas, Kilkerran, Springbank, Highland Park, Glenrothes and so much more. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society highlighted some sublime past bottlings and poured a one off grain whisky which will not be available for sale. It was a very memorable evening.

This weekend the whisky drama continues with our Annual Fall Sale. All of our single malts (except Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings) are 15% off with some whiskies discounted up to 30%! There are great discounts too on wine and beer as well. The sale runs today through Sunday. The sale is only in store and online. Due to expected volume we cannot take orders over the phone. So we’ll look forward to seeing you in-store or online this weekend!

Whiskies of the World San Francisco 2014 – Whisky News

AA SF 2014

Whiskies of the World San Francisco 2014

Every year with arrival of Thanksgiving, we start the unofficial self-winding countdown to the next year Whiskies of the World San Francisco, to take place on March 29, 2014. The end of March, when we stand a perfect chance for the rain-free lazur allowing to enjoy the beauty of the bay from our spectacular and unique venue, SF Belle Hornblower Yacht.

Be sure that you have tickets and that you’ve told all your friends, co-workers and colleagues about the Expo. The anticipation is a great way to usher in autumn and survive through the long lasting winter …raise your spirits and carry on!

Expo Preview
Anticipate exploring every booth, to savor both old and familiar expressions and to look for new launches. We invite you to discover the first English single malt whisky in 100 years launched by the English Whisky Co at the end of 2009, and only recently available to the US whisky imbiber. Read the whisky Chapters (literary, try the expressions of various ages and of various character) to follow the development of the fine malt from the newly built distillery. So far, they released about 10 bottlings of both peated and unpeated profiles, and keep adding to continuum. Quite a “Book”, don’t you think?

At the Expo, we’ll sample their Classic, a whisky of amplitude and depth, and their Peated, a well-crafted whisky that some call the Classic in the peated. Your say!

In almost every newsletter, we mention news from Diageo’s fronts; not that we’re playing favorites, but they do always have news on whisky releases. The recently announced ones, exciting and mouthwatering, are: 21 YO Cardhu, a balanced and silky malt from the one clandestine location; Lagavulin 12 and 28 year old Special Release, unconventionally coming from a first-fill sherry butt; Johnnie Walker Platinum Label with the greatness typical of the brand; the list can spectacularly go on. At the Expo, sojourn at the Diageo booths, a perfect spot to catch up with the company’s new releases.

Man can’t live by bread (or whisky ) alone; to keep our celebratory mood in check, Diageo’s Bushmills Pipe and Drum Band will entertain us for the evening. This amazing band has been accompanying the show since its start, and has become a distinctive feature and a not-to–be-missed highlight of the Expo. Many thanks to Steve Beal, the Master of Scotch and now, the Keeper of the Quaich, for bringing the band to us year after year. For those who is yet to know, Steve is the official brand ambassador for the Single Malts & Johnny Walker, so take the opportunity to make his personal acquaintance at the Expo and share his knowledge and passion for fine malts. Also, ask about the Keeper of Quaich title—we really want to know.
