Benromach Picks Up Silver and Bronze at Malt Maniacs – Scotch Whisky News

Benromach picks up silver and bronze at Malt Maniacs
Speyside’s smallest whisky distillery, Benromach has another duo of top awards to celebrate. Their Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Benromach 30 Years Old has won a silver medal in the 2011 “Malt Maniacs” Awards.
Matured in first fill and second fill Sherry casks, the 30 year old Single Malt, scored 85 points.
And it wasn’t the only Benromach whisky to receive a top accolade as their 2001 Cask Strength vintage received a bronze award.
Malt Maniacs, which is in its ninth year, say theirs is “probably the world’s most independent whisky competition and perhaps the most gruelling!”
Under the management of Gordon & MacPhail, Benromach is handcrafted by just two experienced distillers. Using their unique skills they have developed the distillery’s portfolio which includes the popular Benromach 10 Year Old and Benromach Organic – the world’s first fully certified organic Single Malt.
Michael Urquhart, Joint Managing Director of Gordon & MacPhail, said: “To be awarded a silver and bronze medal ahead of another 171 fine whiskies is a wonderful achievement.
I am delighted that our flagship Benromach range continues to be honoured at respected events like these.”
The “Malt Maniacs” award is the latest accolade for the whiskies from Speyside’s smallest working distillery. Top awards include Benromach’s flagship Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Benromach 10 Year Old being awarded a gold medal at TheFiftyBest.com tasting event in New York City. Benromach 30 Years Old was described as “magnificent, one of the outstanding malts of the year”, scoring 95.5 points out of 100, in Jim Murray’s famous Whisky Bible 2012.
Benromach 30 Years Old has a RRP of £149.99 in the UK. Benromach Cask Strength has a RRP of £40.50 in the UK. Prices in Export markets will vary depending on import charges and taxation
Notes
1. Benromach distillery is Speyside’s smallest. Based in Forres, just two expert distillers make this, golden malt whisky.
2. Established in 1898, Benromach distillery changed hands many times and was virtually derelict when bought by family firm Gordon & MacPhail in 1993. Drawing on generations of whisky expertise, the company carried out a painstaking refurbishment and the distillery was officially re-opened by Prince Charles in 1998.
