Tasting notes, Exclusive Malts
Arran 1996 13yo
Nose: Honey-lozenge with herbs and lavender. Sugared almonds.
Palate: Oodles of honey with liqueurish herbs. Soft but not gentle.
Finish: Sweet and honeyed finish. Superb from start to finish.
Glengoyne 1973 37yo
Nose: Intensely sweet oak with tropical fruit. Sweet oils. Herbal.
Palate: Loads of sweet fruit (tinned fruit). Bittersweet oak and bubble-gum.
Finish: Short and sweet finish with a very long vanilla-trifle aftertaste.
Highland Park 1994 16yo
Nose: Rich fruitcake, raisins and icing sugar. Oily and malty.
Palate: Sweet and deluxe. Rich malt with spicy fruits and oak. Viscose… oh yes!
Finish: Long, hot and spicy finish. Jamaics cake aftertaste.
Bunnahabhain 1997 12yo
Nose: Diesel oil with earthy peat. Thick vanilla with cloves.
Palate: Much sweeter than anticipated. Lots of vanilla mixed with peat (tar).
Finish: Sweet peppers with salt and burnt oak and vanilla in the aftertaste.
Laphroaig 1990 19yo
Nose: The peat is sugary with sweet oils. Heather and incense.
Palate: Again very sweet – with rich oak and some fruit. Coursing peat – salty and rich.
Finish: Hot white pepper finish. Smoked bacon aftertaste.
Laphroaig 1996 13yo
Nose: Fat, chewy, oily Laphroaig with seaweed, tar and brine. Hint of vanilla.
Palate: Big and brash masses of salty peat. Sweet and tarry. Viscose to the maximus.
Finish: Long, hot, sweet and peaty. Salty and meaty in the aftertaste.
