Rarest of the Rare Deluxe Blended 33 Year Old / 43.4%

Now this is an exceptional “wee dram” or not so “Wee” as the case may be!! Have you ever come across a blended Scotch containing “Retro” malts like – KINCLAITH – LADYBURN – GLEN MHOR – GLEN ALBYN & GLEN CRAIG!!!!! Blended with Duncan Taylor’s Multi-award winning CARSEBRIDGE single grain????

Well neither had we. This is stunning stuff, mahogany in colour with sweet fruits, citrusy notes, bags of vanilla, and light oak on the nose. And a palate of wonderful balance of sweetness and spices – really juicy and fruity with an incredibly silky texture, finishing with a powerful build up of citrus fruits complimented by a slight dryness. Simon Cowell eat your heart out – this whisky really has the X factor big-time!!!!!!

Contains whiskies from these distilleries which no longer exist: Kinclaith – Glasgow, Ladyburn – Ayrshire, Glen Mhor – Inverness, Glen Albyn – Inverness, Glencraig – Speyside, Carsedbridge – Fife

Springbank 10yo 1995/2006 (46%, The Alchemist, D12/’95 B01/’06) – Scotch Whisky Tasting Note

Gordon Wright

Gordon Wright

Springbank 10yo 1995/2006 (46%, The Alchemist, D12/’95 B01/’06)

A limited edition Springbank from Gordon Wright, the Alchemist himself and he is part of the family that owns Springbank distillery. This bottling is a vatting of fresh port pipes and 1st fill bourbon casks.  On the nose there is rich fruit along with the very distinctive aroma of Springbank followed by Christmas cake, apricot, very gentle peat reek and some crème brulèe. What a sensational nose. Everything is working well here and is in harmony. The taste is at first very much Springbank and is also very winey  followed by some malt, dried fruit (from the Christmas cake), the peat reek and some really nice oak which is slightly dry but really well enhanced by the sweetness and fruit. The taste is very, very rich and redolent with loads of rich fruit; quite excellent. The finish is of gentle smoke, more fruit and then quickly becomes dry and malty. The finish is quite long and warming, after a minute or two the fruit makes a reappearance which is very nice. After a number of minutes the malt once again emmerges and is quite excellent all the while in harmony with the very gentle peat reek.

All in all a very good example of Springbank with a richness that reminds one of the Springbanks form the early 1990’s. The web address is a disaster; anybody searching for ‘Alchemist’ on google will not find Gordon and his excellent whiskies. You must search under alc-hem-ist  ……..   www.alc-hem-ist.com

Glenrothes OB John Ramsey 46.7%alc. at Loch Fyne Whiskies – Scotch Whisky News

logo1_fine

Glenrothes OB John Ramsey 46.7%alc.

‘Prior to his retiral in 2009, John Ramsay was intimately involved in the making of The Glenrothes since the early 1990s. The exceptional bottlings he has created have resulted in numerous awards and trophys.

John’s signature has been on all the labels since 2004.

To commemorate the peerless contribution John has made to The Glenrothes he has been asked to create one more exclusive expression to sign off.

John has identified a parcel of second fill American oak sherry casks from 1973 to1987 which have now been married together and very gradually reduced in strength but not chill-filtered. This limited edition of only 1,400 bottles will stand as John’s legacy to The Glenrothes.

Bottled at 46.7%.

The Glenrothes John Ramsay is redolent of dark chocolates, blood oranges and vanilla. There is a great balance between oak and fruit and the whisky is very mature and extremely rich.

The Glenrothes John Ramsay is released in keeping with the policy of bottling selected casks at their point of optimum maturity and maximum flavour.

This new expression has an engraved copper label.

Each individually numbered bottle has John’s signature etched onto it.

The oak box features a bottle-shaped window and carries a leather booklet with John’s own description of how he has crafted this, his ‘legacy’ selection.’

Duncan Taylor Scoops a Malt Maniac Award – Scotch Whisky News

dtc_logo_s

A good reason to celebrate!

We have scooped the top prize in the annual Malt Maniacs Awards 2009.

This international competition, Pinnacle of The Worlds Spirits Awards, gave Duncan Taylor’s Glen Grant 36yo the overall top whisky – a massive achievement for a small Aberdeenshire-based whisky merchant.

Malt Maniacs are an International group of whisky lovers that represent thousands of whisky clubs throughout the world. The judging panel from over 10 major whisky drinking markets of the world represent the elite of spirit connoisseurs. Thousands of whiskies were blind tasted by eleven experts over the course of the awards, but it was Duncan Taylor that came out tops on the night. *(Please see the note below)

In addition to the overall award, we were also awarded a gold medal again for the Glen Grant 36yo – attracting an unheard of 91 points from the judges and a further three silver medals and two bronze medals were awarded to Duncan Taylor Whiskies. We are all honoured at Duncan Taylor to have won this award from ‘people who know their whiskies’.

Purveyors of the worlds most exclusive range of Scotch Whiskies

aw-log011
* The Malt Maniacs are indeed an international group of whisky lovers, but they are very much independent and do not represent whisky clubs or anyone other than themselves.  This year’s entries numbered just over 200, similar to the numbers received in past years.  Given that competitors are restricted to a limited number of entries, the quality of the competition is very high so Duncan Taylor have every right to be proud of their very strong showing.

Isle of Arran 10yo 1998/2009 (57.7%, OB, ‘Sherry’, C#819, 319 Bts., D29/6/’98 B24/6/’09) – Scotch Whisky Tasting Note

arran-logo1

A single cask bottled especially for British Columbia; single cask Arran’s are always of interest and this one is of no exception. The undiluted nose is very fruity and spicy along with some pepper and loads of malt and unsurprisingly some prickle on the nose from the alcohol. The fruit after a few minutes is very deep and thick and is very good; this is an exceptional nose and is very pleasant. After a few minutes in the glass the fruit opens up and is more distinct; oranges and lemons. With the addition of water the malt is the prominent characteristic along strong wood notes and more fruit, even some gentle hints of leather. The undiluted taste is both strong, and chocolaty along with fruit, leather, sweetness and dry cedar wood notes, very, very nice. The mouth feel is quite syrupy and reminiscent of cream soda; quite different from many other sherry casks. With water it is much more docile and sweet; mild cedar/tobacco and sweetness all very well balanced and a much better way to enjoy this dram over the course of an evening. The finish is malty, and strong with the afore mentioned fruit and leather along with some slight hints of raw cured tobacco and then a tremendous crash of the malt which comes rolling back in crystal clear and backed by some really good bitter chocolate.

What an enjoyable dram; well done Isle of Arran Distillery. If you want to be slapped around the mouth try it neat, you won’t regret it.
