Two New Offerings from Glenglassaugh Distillery

glenglassaugh

To celebrate the tremendous success of our 30 year old and 40 year old single malt scotch whisky’s at the recent International Wine and Spirit Competition, where they both won Trophies, we are going to offer customers the opportunity to buy a twin pack of 20 cl bottles, one containing the award winning 30 year old and the other the award winning 40 year old.

To make the offer as affordable as possible the pack will consist of only the two bottles with the minimum of outer packaging. There will be no cut crystal decanters, no glasses and no wooden boxes. The labels will be the minimum required to meet our statutory obligations and protect our brand and there will be no engraving on the bottles.

This offer will only be available through our own on-line shop, which will be launched soon, or directly from the distillery and there will only be around 250 packs available which will retail at £500.00 per pack, plus postage.

It is extremely rare for 1 distillery to win 2 Trophies at the IWSC awards in the same year and that makes this offer absolutely unique. We hope to have these packs ready for sale by the end of August but if you want to pre-order your pack now then please let us know at shop@glenglassaugh.com

News from Classic Expressions Book Publishers

image001

An Update from Ian Buxton at Classic Expressions (the photo as shown is of the original  book and not the reprint);

It’s at the printers now, so the Founder Subscriber offer is closed. We’ll have postage prices (and thus the confirmed final price to subscribers) shortly once we get the final weight.

We can still take orders, so people need to email us, but all future orders will be at the published price (£99 + shipping)

The Original Offer from Classic Expressions;

We have some good news for you regarding your interest in J A Nettleton’s The Manufacture of Whisky and Plain Spirit.

You’ll remember that this is our planned facsimile reprint of this classic 1913 distilling text book – for many years the standard reference work and an essential source of information for authentic distilling practice from before World War One.    It’s never been reprinted and you’d expect to pay close to £1,000 for a copy, if you could ever find one.

The Manufacture of Whisky and Plain Spirit is packed with technical detail and copiously illustrated.  It’s over 650 pages long, larger than usual in format (24 x 15½ cm), contains more than 70 plates and as is usual for Classic Expressions, will come in a handsome slipcase with a fully searchable PDF on a handy CD.  The edition size will not exceed 300 and all copies will be individually numbered.  The names of our Founder Subscribers will appear as a frontispiece.

You asked us to reserve a copy, without obligation, while we assessed interest and priced the reprint.

We estimated the cost then at £85-100 for Founder Subscribers, a discount on the published price of up to £125, plus shipping.

Well, scanning of the book is now nearly complete (this is a time-consuming process, as you can imagine) and we have print prices.  With the recent recovery in the international value of the pound sterling,

I’m delighted to tell you that the Founder Subscriber price will be £79, plus shipping.

Once we close the Founder Subscriber list the price will rise to £99.  We’re getting ready to print and expect to be shipping the books in August to our Founders.

A New DNA in Every Cask! August09 Bottling Douglas Laing

Old & Rare 45% ABV:       Straight from the Cask

CANADIAN MIST LAUNCHES “SCIENCE BEHIND THE COCKTAIL” TOUR

After-Hours Events at Art and Science Museums will Travel Country

Louisville, Ky. (August 3, 2009) – Ever wonder how you can keep carbonation in champagne? Why bartenders always pour the alcohol in first and then the mixer? If garnish really influences the taste of your cocktail?

Mistology: The Science Behind the Cocktail, an after-hours event hosted at various Art and Science museums nationwide, will explore the entertaining and educational side of cocktail creation.  The events, brought to you by Canadian Mist Whisky, will feature an interactive presentation from Canadian Mist’s Chief Entertaining Officer (CEO) Tim Laird and Spirits Scientist Steve Hughes.

Tim is the master at mixing cocktails while Steve, a member of Mist’s Research and Development team, spends his day dissecting cocktails in a lab. Together they will answer any and all of your bartending and science related questions. Not only the how, but also the why.

The master mixologists at Canadian Mist will instruct guests on the art of concocting the cocktails that defined an era. After the presentation, attendees can apply what they learned with hands-on demos. If guests prefer to kick back and let others do the work, there will be a bar staff on-site and plenty of appetizers to enjoy. The event is open to anyone 21 years of age and older with admission varying from city to city. All proceeds will benefit the host museum.

WHO:

Tim Laird – Chief Entertaining Officer (CEO) for Brown-Forman Corp., a global marketer and producer of wine and spirits, including Canadian Mist. Tim is known for making entertaining easy and has appeared on hundreds of television and radio interviews across the U.S.

Steve Hughes – Spirits Scientist for Brown-Forman Corp. Steve has been behind the development of several of Brown-Forman’s award winning whiskies, including Canadian Mist, a Gold-Medal winning whisky made in Collingwood, Ontario.

Some of the topics discussed include:

• Starting with the basics – the role of taste buds and sense of smell

• Flavor Wheel – Exploring the various flavor notes in liquor – fruit, wood, spices, sweet aromatics – and the scientific reasoning behind why these flavor notes exist.

• Ice – How to cool your drink down without watering it down. Ice shavings versus ice cubes (surface area)

• Movement – “Shaken vs. Stirred”

• Carbonation – Talk about how to keep carbonation in your cocktail / bottle of champagne. Discuss how carbonation carries flavor.

• Mixing – Why it is important to pour the alcohol in first and then the mixer (specific gravity).

• Garnish – How do garnishes affect the cocktail (pH Levels)

• Glassware – Does the shape really matter?

TOUR DATES:

August 6, 2009 / Denver, CO / Sugar Cube Building in conjunction with Historic Denver

October 7, 2009 / Milwaukee, WI / Eisner Museum of Advertising and Design

Jolly Toper Tasting Edinburgh September 3rd, 2009

The Jolly Toper

The Jolly Toper

September 3rd
All of the Jolly Toper’s whisky tastings take place on Thursday nights from 7:30pm until approximately 10pm at the Tollbooth Tavern, 167 Canongate, Royal Mile, Edinburgh.

Glendronach 1990 – 03/09 18yo Bourbon hogshead 54.0% bottled by Cadenheads.  This bottling almost always resulted in a sale when potential buyers were given a sample. Simply an easy-to-drink sweet dram.

Glenlossie 14yo port cask bottled by Cadenheads.  I overlooked this one at first but on re-visiting the body and complexity along with the lengthy finish leaves me in no doubt it is right for use in these tastings.

Caol Ila 1995 – 03/09 13yo sherry butt 60.4% bottled by Cadenheads. Caol Ila is always a good dram, this one is a bit different in that it has come from a sherry cask although the influence is probably only evident in the hue and not the palate.

Auchentoshan 19yo Bourbon barrel bottled by Cadeneheads.  A wonderful example what 19 years in a fresh Bourbon cask can do.

Glen Elgin 1978 – 06/09 30yo 49.1% bottled by Cadenheads. Everything I look and hope for in and old dram.

Plus a mystery dram
