This exclusive single cask release from Daftmill has been bottled for TyndrumWhisky. Drawn from a first-fill ex-PX sherry hogshead, Cask #73 was filled on 13th August 2014 and bottled in February 2026, producing just 289 bottles.

The whisky was made using Concerto barley grown on the Daftmill farm in the Fardiners, Quarry and Sawmill fields. The barley was harvested on the 2nd, 5th and 7th of September 2012, before being dried and stored on the farm and later malted in 2013.

Happy English Whisky Week! I’ve lost count of the number of times somebody has asked me, “Can you get whisky in England?” I resist the urge to roll my eyes and instead use it as the optimal time to list of some of the exceptional brands that are currently producing our favourite spirit as good as anybody else on the planet.

One of the first drams I ever tried when I joined the wonderful whisky world was one of the Whiskymaker’s Reserve expressions from the Lakes Distillery. I was blown away by its quality, and it’s the standard I’ve held English whisky to ever since.

Another cracking barrel of Old Forester Cask Strength has arrived. For those who love the bold, spicy style these impressive barrels deliver, this special selection offers something truly distinctive. Unlike many bourbon producers where we chase high floors for their intense environmental swings, the Old Forester warehouses outside Louisville are built from thick brick and concrete. Each floor is fully enclosed, allowing heat to build within the structure during the summer while winter air keeps the masonry walls cold for months. To keep the whiskey moving through the wood, Old Forester pumps steam heat into the warehouses at the first sign of cold and maintains the heat cycling until spring arrives. The result is a barrel that, even in a relatively short period of time, experiences temperature fluctuations four to five times greater than a typical warehouse. This particular barrel was filled on July 6th, 2021 and matured on the first floor of the venerable Warehouse K, built in 1953 and home to some of the finest stocks in Old Forester’s inventory. Barrels from this building often show a beautiful balance between dense fruit and the distillery’s signature spicy rye character. Bottled exclusively for K&L Wine Merchants in early 2026 at a full cask strength of 129.7 proof, this barrel was offered without chill filtration or additives of any kind. A brilliant example of just how compelling Old Forester can be when the right barrel is chosen from their remarkable warehouses.

Complex, elegant, and full of character, our inaugural expression is a delicious dram which unfolds in your glass, revealing itself over time, just like the island itself.

Made to our carefully refined blender’s recipe, we combine spirits which have been matured by the coastal village of Ardhasaig in selected first fill Ex-Bourbon casks, first fill Ex-Oloroso and Fino sherry butts.

We then marry these spirits in batches for a minimum of 12 weeks to bring additional harmony to the final dram.

The result is an Outer Hebridean single malt of distinction we’re proud to bottle and bear our elemental island’s name.

The results of the World Whiskies Awards America are always one of my highlights of the awards season, not least of all because they put a spotlight on some of the most unique, innovative brands producing our favourite spirit today.

It’s also extremely exciting because of the announcement of the World’s Best Bourbon, a spectacular honour. Despite what have no doubt been turbulent conditions for many distilleries stateside, there’s been a real perseverance and industry-wide camaraderie that deserves celebrating. The result is incredible work that should be enough to get whisky enthusiasts worldwide excited.

These results take us one step closer to the much-anticipated announcement of the World’s Best whiskies next month. As chair of judges, I can’t wait to see where we’re headed as the awards cycle continues.
